  • sorry to hear that you had to make that hard decision and put her asleep.i bet she still runs around you without your knowing.i lost my 15 years old lab 5months ago.im still devastated.

  • We lost our Irish setter year ago. He was 11 yo without a month/ He suffered bone cancer (sarcoma) and lived after desease had been discovered only 5 months. We had been told that this is very frequent desease for Irish setters and dicided to have next dog - the setter breed other than Irish setter.

  • I lost my Boxer Dog Sophie last summer she lasted a long time i had her since i was two now we migth get an Irish Setter!

  • I had a Wolf-Keeshond-German shepard mix named sadie. She was only 3 when she died a horrible way. She killed a rat that had eaten rat poison so she had it in her brain now. She was deliriouse. So one day i went on my bus to go to school, didnt know she followd me and she chased the bus and.... Got ran over. While I was riding it. I feel like i killed my own dog.:( i looked back and saw her try to get up. i yelled for my bus guy to stop but he wouldnt. ~*I miss you sadie.*~I <3 you. see you soon

  • Shannon passed away Jan 1991 at age 12. I never got another dog - I miss her too much. No other dog could fill her place in my heart. I hope to meet her at the Rainbow Bridge someday - I know she'll be there. Not too sure about me.

  • We lost our 10 year old Red Setter Purdy on the 28th October. I miss the chaos! The unconditional love she gave us all. Something about Setters that you can't describe to anyone.

  • We lost Brutus (the noblest puppy of them all) October of 1997, and i still tear up when I'm forced to confront his passing. We had a final walk just like this one; and a final pee just outside the vet's. It may be the hardest thing I ever had to do, but I was with him to the end, and at least I had the choice to end his life with dignity. - my poor baby.

  • @poissonnoir

so very sorry. some say times heals but I don't think so when a wonderful dog has too leave us. we have moved on to another fine pup but alas that fateful day I dread awaits. we need to be like dogs and live for the moment. take care

  • Setter is in heaven now :)

  • Awww poor Ripley. She seems like a good dog!

  • i miss my Irish setter Astro

  • i miss my dog Irish setter Astro

    7/3/07-2/28/10

    may our dogs R.I.P.

  • me too, my Jumper... now joke in paradise with your irish angel...

  • Sorry about the bad news, may she rip

  • I just lost my buddy, Damascus, on on October 14th, 2009. I loved him as much as a human could love a dog.

  • so sorry to hear this bad news

    hope you feel better soon.

  • RIP Sandor, he passed away May 12th at 14:20 h

  • I give him Beneful dry food, and Pedigree can food I put a spoonful Extra Vergine olive oil on it everyday and when I eat fish (twice a week) he always get a part of it

  • My Irish Setter is 18 years old now, and even we have the most wonderful life together I fear THAT day coming.......

  • 18 years? That seems almost unheard of! Mine just passed away yesterday at 10. I am so sad. I have had them all my life and have never known one to live that long. Sure would love to get pup from your setters blood line and find out what you feed him.

  • Oh I am so sorry to hear that, I have to let Sander go this week, his condition drops very fast last week :(

He will be 18.5 yo old then.

Not the feed is important but the love you give to your dog, and mine get a lot of it.

I was in the happy position that I could even bring my dog to work.

I do hope that you will remember your setter as the most wonderful dog in the world!

    \

  • So sorry to hear of your loss too! He lived a good full life!

What did you feed him? dry dog food, canned, your own mix. Sorry to ask again it's just that I saw my setter's health went down hill while he was on Iams so I switched his dog food but the damage was done.

The vet said when he passed he had diabetes. I am convinced it was the food he was on.

  • and just think the dog has no clue whats gonna happen

  • not knowing her own unfortunate demise is the grace a dog earns throughout its life

  • our first irish setter Kristy passed on, 19th december 1986, yep 22 years ago and we still think of that girl, unreal...they break your heart, but life is so rich whilst we have them, we had her for 17 years...

  • sorry your sweet dog died. your dog was very pretty. I never seen an irish setter before. but I herd of them.

  • So sorry, my Irish Setter recently dided too. She was names Lady and had cancer, I cried for three days, nearly cried watching this. x

  • O man im so sorry(ghotebuoy).I had a dog called vilma.I got her when she was a pupy. Her mother died in the milatary during the war.She was a genius. But when i was 7 someone poisond her.I actually cry when i think of it.But now i have a irish setter and hes my best friend. When i feel bad i got to my best,no responsive friend.Wierd huh?

  • Shit! That brought tears to my eyes - you never forget these incredible non-judgemental friends, they get right under your skin giving love unconditionally and, there in all our moments of emotional solitude.

My boy Joshua went from a heart condtion - that was 8 years ago and I still miss him.

Think of the life and love she had - how much you cry and miss her shows how deeply you loved.

    Regards

    Tim

  • I'm so sorry.... It's horrible losing ones best friend....

  • =( I am so sorry!

  • thats so sad that you guys or girls had to put her down i had an irish setter we had to put down a week ago. but i bet your dog really loved that steak

  • I would have loved to have 1 more last walk with my Rosie but she had fallen so ill and was unable to walk so we rode around in the truck a couple hours and I loved her to the end that day 1-21-2007. Both my Setters Sammy and Rosie (both rescues) left tons of paw prints all over my heart.

  • im sorry to hear about your dog mate. we used to have a jack russell but we had to give it away due to finances and a move. i got to see him one last time in the kennels before he went to some old couple apparently, and after trying to bite me he gave me a smell and must have recognised me because then he wouldnt leave me alone until we parted for the last time when i left. i shed a tear then, and i still miss the little bugger. wish we'd kept him. all the best brian

  • (cont'd - stupid 500 char limit)My new favourite IS next to my baby Kelly is Teagan who is being fostered by IS Rescue of North Texas. I won't give you the direct link on petfinder(LOL) because I would love for you and Orla to scroll through all the great doggies there, whatever the breed - ES, IS or Goldiedoddle, and find a new member of your fanily while searching for Teagan. Take care and I know you'll find the right dog to gladden your hearts.

  • (cont'd) It's funny that you say you would like an ES as originally I was looking for a springer or spaniel mix dog (like Logan) but a friend of mine went to the Sportsman show here in Toronto and told me about a beautiful ES Sunshine that was there and that's when I did a search for setters on petfinder and found Kelly.

  • Hi Brian, there are so many great dogs on petfinder (where I found Kelly) that need homes and there is NO DOUBT that they would be eternally grateful to find you and Orla!

  • That's so sad. I had to put Logan to sleep in January and I still miss him terribly. I adopted Kelly my Irish setter last month and she is wonderful! A little barky but VERY cuddly too.

  • thank you very much. its so strange.. your comment comes a year to the day we put ripley down. we still can't pick a new best friend. orla wants a golden doodle but i want an english setter. I guess I just miss my friend. take care, Brian

  • Dogs never really leave us. On the other side, they're always waiting to meet us again. All my sympathy, she seems like a wonderful dog.

  • I am sorry for you.

I have an Irish Setter myself (Seamus)who will be five this year and I can honestly say I have never had a better dog. Reading your description made me a little teary as well. Deepest sympathies.

  • wow. we had an irish setter called seamus too. i grew up with him and he lived to 16 before we had to get him put down as he was getting bad arthritus. but he lived a really good life.
