This does not start on the up stroke as he says at 2:07. I hear just 3 notes not 4. The right hand should not stop the alternate picking motion as well. It will confuse the muscles. Keep the hand going to keeping the same pattern even if you are not hitting all the notes. Watch Eddie you will see what I mean.

@KennyLBiersack This song? All of it, one pass. VH in general? Each song has it's mad little bitch waiting to punch you in the balls, but I'll say (right now) the hardest to get right is probably Whiskey 2nd solo. The bends are immense, the stretches hurt, and the timing is un-fun. Lol.

Hey man what's up? I got a new version of this posted on my channel. Getting that swing feel at the beginning is tough to do fast without the drums behind me... oh well, most people screw it up much worse. The new vid has better quality than before though - both audio and video. At one point I superimpose my body onto the stage in front of a real VH crowd back in the 80s going wild LOL. Rock on!

The upstroke to start the riff and the accented upstrokes throughout in conjunction with the swing feel are critical to making it sound like Eddie. Otherwise you're just treading water.

ya the 1.5 Dunlops Ive used for over ten years now BUT Ive recently ( last 3 years now lol ) been using the 2.0 Purple sick puppy. After I went back to the 1.5 and its sooo easy to use the 1.5's that I said nah....back to the 2.0's. Let me know if you dig em. KIller clip bro.

you only one that got the riff right that i see so far. and up stroke is the preferd attack over any execpt rare cases..use alternating with this riff..start up down then when you get the first fill its up...when the main tune begins it will be a down feel

doug, thanks for the feel and the use of the upstrokes. even AFTER watching your demo many, many times..i still found every single way possible to play this WRONG! it took a surprising amount of patience and work to finally go, 'ohhh, now i got it!' i've only posted a couple things and what i post still needs work, but i hadn't played in 18 years until this past spring. i'll post an effort at this, maybe my fave vh tune,when i can get thru all of it. thanks again for the lesson..made my day!
