  • This and "Misery" are best films ever made from books by Stephen King.

  • Best movie ever ahhaha.

  • Heeeeeere's Johnny!

  • I saw the trailer for this on tv for the first time back in 1980 when I was four. It terrified me for years. The remake was nowhere as good as Kubricks.

  • omg, it's dies irae!!

  • scaryyyy :o

  • This movie sucked. The book was 10000 times better. It did the book no justice at all. I wasn't even scared and I watched it alone with the lights off. The book scared me so much more.

  • i don't like this music...

    but the movie is beautiful....

    Great

  • this is chuck norris's relaxtion music

  • @MrHorror42 it meant that he froze to death in the maze trying to get danny

  • @TriangleOfTrouble and also that he was the original care taker and he was the only caretaker of the hotel

  • Great movie and the music makes it even better gives it a very chilling feeling!

  • Gregorian chant Dies Irae?

  • I've really noticed such a big change in horror movies as time goes by.

I also notice how less intelligent they get.

  • "DANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY DANNY BOYYY"

  • My mom watched this movie when she was eight she has remembered this movie for 30 years

  • I like to play this song while I'm taking an exceptionally frightening poop in a public restroom

  • HEEEEEERRRREEEEEEESSSSS! JOHNNY!

  • If i would ever go crazy, this is the music i would want to do it to!

  • here"s johnny

  • this movie isnt scary its weird.....

  • @nickalas2000 This is more of those psychologically scary horror movies

  • This reminds me of ghosts

  • Bes horror movie ever.

  • FUN FACT!

The kid who played Danny was under the impression he was making a drama.

  • i read the book and listen to this at the same time just to get more creeped out

  • Even though this movie wasn't like the book, only some parts , it still is one the best horror films ever made. I read King really loved "Heeeeere's Johnny!" Nicholson made this great, but some could argue that Kathy Bates in Misery was the better psycho. Misery was more like the book except actually the leg hobbling, Classic!, wasn't in the book and King said he wished he had thought of it once "Bag of Bones" is the next King movie, mini series bieng made on AMC, home of The Walking Dead, and

  • cont... Speaking of that show King wrote an episode for it this season though i am not sure which one yet, it should be awesome! Oh and did anyone else King's cameo in last year's season of Sons of Anarchy? He played a character named Bachman. Back to the Shining I have been to The Stanley Hotel in CO where they shot the mini series, it's a damn creepy place!

  • dies irae

  • @olfi500 Actually that hotel is what gave King the inspiration fore the Shining and frankly I can see why. It is definitely a really creepy place, I don't know if I'd be brave enough to stay there.

  • "Heeeere's Johnny!" God, I'm afraid of Jack Nicholson after watching this movie! :D

  • I readed the book

  • kubrick is awesome. one of the best directors.

  • 1.Jack Nicholson improvised the "HERE'S JOHNNY!" line. Kubrick had been living in England and didn't originally understand that Nicholson was referencing Ed McMahon on "The Tonight Show."

2.Kubrick emphasized Jack Torrence going crazy rather than the supernatural elements of the novel because he felt that depicting an afterlife conflicted with his atheist beliefs.

  • @JKTube That's news to me. In fact, one of the most famous stories of the making of the film is that Kubrick called King late one night and asked, "Do you believe in God?" King responded in the affirmative, and Kubrick spoke about how inherently optimistic ghost stories are, because they imply that there is an afterlife.

  • @JRserver: I read about Kubrick's decision in the book Videohound's Guide to Cult Flicks and Trash Pics. The author commented that Kubrick deemphasizing the supernatural in The Shining is sort of like filming Jaws according to vegetarian principles.

  • @JKTube I always thought that the movie shows that the supernatural forces of the hotel controling Jack was what mae him go crazy and taht was before reading the novel. But i do kinda see the downgrading of the supernatural elements of the hotel.

  • @JKTube kubrick was agnostic. just as a disclaimer to whoever reads this: let's not start a religious debate. let's try to leave one place of youtube immaculate of judgmental fundies on both sides.

  • @JKTube I don't know; I thought Kubrick emphasized the supernatural versus the novel, which dwelt on the alcoholism.

  • the pic was midly lol-ish

  • I WANNA SEE DIS MOVIEE SOOO BADDD.!!!

  • All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

  • want to see how long it takes to kill a family in less than 60 seconds on fox and more ?????

  • "Danny's not here Mrs. Torannes"

  • This film was scary, but not in a scary way... if you understand me...

  • that movie isnt scary...its kinda sad/weird/AWESOME

  • "come play with us danny"

  • HERES JONNY!!!!!!!!

  • "I'm not gonna hurt you. Wendy, stop swinging the bat. You didn't even let me finish my sentence. I'm not gonna hurt you.

I'm just gonna bash your brains in. I'm gonna bash them-!the fuck!- in. Hand me the bat, Wendy."

  • "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."

  • Red rum? That's yumyum

  • Am I the only one who wasn't scared at all by this movie? I'm not saying it's bad, I fucking loved it. I just didn't find it scary at all.

  • @molrad666 same here...i thought it was more creepy than scary. Seeing Jack go from a normal dude to psychotic was great...the blank stare as he's sitting on the bed.

  • @molrad666 I found it not scary either. But still spooky! And most of all, VERY intricate and mysterious. Mysterious because it's amazing all the underlying themes and messages that Kubrick put in it, the genius filmmaker he was.

  • redrum...redrum... REDRUM!

  • Bone chilling music... Sleep to this one tonight with some candles and a quija board... Makes for a good Friday :-)

  • "Here's Johnny!"

  • @kiriwina

It's called 'Dies Irae'. See the video by CorvusKorax17, they give a fuller explanation about the origin of the melody used for this music.

  • @MrDanny09261 Let me tell you that it's a Hotel, Hotel Overlook. A hotel full of evil, things that have occured in the past (In the hotel) has been sucked up in a bubble of energy, making the place disgusting and evil.

The hotel likes to play around with people in it, such as different rooms.. With different stories attached to them.

When the Torrance family (Jack Torrance) when he takes the job to look out for the Hotel Overlook, his son is connected to it.. He "Shines".. Make the hotel alive

  • Who is the artist that made this theme?

  • @Shaynerification Wendy Carlos. Was Walter Carlos before. Wiki him/her. ;). Also made that moogified Beethoven soundtrack used in A Clockwork Orange.

  • @Shaynerification I forgot: The actual melody is from the "Dies Irae" (a hymn part of a Catholic requiem mass). You can wiki that, too.

  • @Shaynerification It is an adaptation of "Symphonie Fantastique" by Berlioz.

  • here's Homer!!!!

  • 00:38 I see you!!

  • @BassHeadsProduction Hahaha! Scardey Cat! *Makes Face* Bleeeeeeeeh

    *Sees Reflection*

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

    *Faints*

  • so could you put the correct version of the theme up?

  • The scariest movie I have ever seen. And I highly doubt that will ever change.

  • @ShadowACS agreed

  • @ShadowACS Cant Wait Till You See Pet Sematary

  • @ShadowACS you really found it scary? I mean yeah it is a horror movie and its generally amazing, but I don't think it was THAT scary, you know..?

  • @elenor1996 I was utterly terrified by it. I get scared on a much more subconscious level than most people, and the images this movie gave me were exactly like a nightmare. I've actually seen Psycho, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the 13th, but this movie scared me far more than any of them.

  • @elenor1996 it was terrifying wat are u talking about

  • @ShadowACS The Exorcist was much scarier. When watching it, you just have to think to yourself, "My God, this is a little girl, not just some monster. It's just a child." It's especially scary to those who believe it can happen.

  • @SmashBrosFan19 I can see your point. However, I should note that I don't get scared by suspense or symbolism as much as other people. What terrified me about The Shining was that the way it was shot combined with the images and music made it feel like a real nightmare. That kind of fear is what really scared me, and to this day, two months after I've seen the movie, I'm still haunted by that terrifying image of the two little girls staring in the hallway.

  • @ShadowACS Have you seen the Exorcist? Usually scariest movie of all times go like this:

    1. The Exorcist

    2. The Shining

    3. Psycho

  • @SmashBrosFan19 I have seen about an hour or so of it, and to be perfectly honest, I found it kind of boring. Now before you go nuts, this was probably due to the fact that I had a light on in the room I was watching it in and a couple of my friends were talking really loudly in the next room. So it could be that all that, combined with the fact that I already knew much of what was going to happen beforehand, destroyed the suspenseful buildup for me.

  • @SmashBrosFan19 couldnt agree more

  • @ShadowACS I am too! Those little girls... I ... oh, well... Guess who's not getting any sleep tonight? *sigh*

  • @ShadowACS Just keep watching Steven King's movies. You'll find something as creepy, or close. It, Cujo, Pet Cemetery, etc. Awesome. Each amplifies your fear something.

  • @FangnclawXD: BTW, his name is spelled STEPHEN.

  • @JKTube yes yes XD

  • @JKTube Btw I DID spell his name right! SOmetimes. X) (That IT theme song in the related videos is mine from an old account.

  • "The Shining" is a real Masterpiece!

  • this is actually a remake of a piece of Classical song.

  • at 0:31 his face looks like HELLO HONEY IM HOME ANYONE THERE MWUAHAHA

  • Really disturbing movie 0_o Brrr....

  • Le meilleur rôle de Jack, un personnage est créé, ça le suivra tout le long de sa carrière, sublisssssssime....

  • HERES JOHNNY

  • @TheEducatedStranger Insidious

  • Amazing horror movie, Reply to me telling me what your favorite is

  • @TheEducatedStranger Tough choice, I like so many it's hard to choose one. I guess I would have to go with Suspiria, this one or the original Cat People.

  • @TheEducatedStranger The Thing from the 80s or Rosemarys' Baby would definitely be in my top 5

  • REDRUM

  • MURD3RER

  • @Brion671 fuck no it wasnt

  • @Brion671

You must be out of your skull! Or new to horror movies and,are about 11 years old.

  • @pinkstrawberrypuding

Dude, seriously, even Steven King dislike version with Jack Nicholson.

  • @Brion671 That's Steven King's opinion. I like the version with Jack Nicholson better too.

  • @ShitHappensToThisGuy

I personally like with Steven Weber.

  • @Brion671 And I shall respect your opinion :)

  • @Brion671

That's why Steven King is a writer, not a film maker.

He had a hand in making the new one and NO ONE LIKED IT.

Just read the reviews.Don't just take my word for it.

There is no doubt which people liked better.
