You are: Eighteen year-old girl Who live in small city of Japan And you heard me on the radio About one year ago And you wanted to know All about me And my hobbies My favorite food And my birthday Why are you so far away from me? I need help And you're way across the sea I could never touch you I think it would be wrong
I've got your letter You've got my song They don't make stationery like this where I'm from So fragile, so refined So I sniff and I lick your envelope And fall to little pieces Every time I wonder: What clothes you wear to school I wonder how you decorate your room I wonder how you touch yourself And curse myself for being across the sea At 10, I shaved my head And tried to be a monk I thought the older women would like me if I did You see, ma
This song is the emotional piece of art that really makes Pinkerton my favorite album ever. If this album were a person, I would in fact NOT make love to it. I would take it out for a fancy dinner and a date, then I would marry it and then after months of cherishing it I would make sweet passionate love to it.
for people who's bitching about weezer changing, just go ahead and butch about how every band changes, because they do. even the beatles changed, its like hitting puberty for a band
I don't care. Weezer rocks whether they made "horrible" lyrics. NO.
No Weezer is horrible, all Weezer songs are perfectly made for our ears to have an inner ear orgasm. I don't care what others say about Weezer, they're one of my favorite bands of all times. Perhaps the most favorite.
Don't get me wrong I like Weezer, but unfortunately they haven't put out an album as good or equal to the blue album and after 16 years its safe to say that is and always will be their best work.
I think the reason people went back and changed their opinion on this album was because it followed Weezer's best album and it stayed in the shadow of the blue album for years. Then once people saw the sub par music being released from Weezer from about 2002 and on they went back and realized it was actually a decent album. it just took a few not so good albums to follow it until the masses realized it.
@CMB3864 tbh i liked this album better than the blue album. its hard to decide because theyre both amazing. but pinkerton sounds great listening from beginning to end. the album flows beautifully and just sounds so raw and emotional.
i think it did poorly because people liked the up-beat happy songs on TBA and pinkerton showed a more deep and vulnerable side of weezer.
the other albums just dont match their first two. good songs here and there, but nothing this spectacular.
It's amazing how Rivers hated an album like this back when it was cool to hate it.
I also remember when this album was considered mediocre. It's always either the Blue Album or Maladroit back when I was a kid. Now, it's the Blue Album and Pinkerton.
Guess which one is my favorite? "Only in Dreams" sucked.
thats probably the most powerful emotionaly song i've ever heard...wow it's incredible how he just says his story that fits all and gives me these shivers...Rivers Cuomo, your a genius man,and is it me or the three houses on pinkerton make a W, like in Weezer ? :-|
I met the most amazing girl this summer (she's even a Weezer fan), then I found out she lives in England and she's only in Canada for the summer. This song is the first thing that came to my mind.
@psychoticlife Well Weezer has changed more than any other band...more then the beatles who changed from a boy band to music genius'. Weezer made freaking the best alternative album (Blue) and a masterpiece (Pinkerton) to making horrible to mediocre albums. I don't think it's River's fault though, when this album came out, the horrible critic reviews made him hate this album, and now it's known as a masterpiece. Damn critics and fans
How is that the sign I don't know anything about music? I'm sorry sir but I am majoring in music at UCLA. I have also taken multiple classes on music history. I probably have more music on my ipod than you will ever hear. You are most likely some stuck up teenager who just discovered weezer and think you know everything about them. I hate youtube fights I was just simply expressing my opinion, but man do you not know shit!
@capturedevice62 your full of crap. we love these albums because every snare hit, note, every word is perfect. The music is complex and emotional. Weezer in the 90's were a more focused pavement.
@capturedevice62 A lot of newer weezer songs have a shit ton of distortion as well, and they still suck. It's because these two albums were so emotional and every teenager that lived in the 90s could relate to them, Rivers put his heart and soul into these albums and made the best music he could. Now he just makes music to make money. I'm not saying ALL the new music is bad, I like Make Believe too. But you're an ignorant asshole who doesn't recognize this genius
you know what, i love the idea that at some point in time, people hated this album. Goes to show that a majority of people hate the inside of their own minds.
i heard this was voted one of the best albums of the 90's, and i can understand that because with how amazing the blue album was but this is still an amazingly awesome album
Weezer's most beautiful song on their most beautiful album. I'm 28 now, but during my teens and early twenties this was in my cd player constantly. I could relate to every single song on the album, it was such an honest album, no wonder Rivers couldn't make another one.
This is a great song. I could never understand why Weezer didn't release it as a single and create a video like they did The Good life, and El Scorcho.
Cuomo remarked, "When I got the letter, I fell in love with her. It was such a great letter. I was very lonely at the time, but at the same time I was very depressed that I would never meet her. Even if I did see her, she was probably some fourteen-year-old girl, who didn't speak English."[1] When asked in 2006 about the girl, he commented that "I don't know anything about her and I've never contacted her."
@hudsonmarco How is it creepy? He even sings "I could never touch you, I think it would be wrong". The letter that Rivers got from this girl really inspired him back when he was depressed.
I listen to these songs over and over, and I can hear the same notes again and again, but each time it seems like I'm hearing it for the first time. And It's amazing every time.
