algae is a much better alternative that jatrpha. although i think one plant, or source, is not the right idea. Growing multiple, biodiesel producing crops is the right way to go, in my opinion. If jatropha can grow easily in california, we should use it there. but be aware that using this plant will take up land previously used for food.
its not nearly as good. algae can produce 10 to 15 thousand gallons per acre with ease. And from what i understand (correct me if im wrong) jatropha can only grow in warmer climates, where algae can grow anywhere in the summer. and algae is a continual harvest crop, meaning you can get oil all year long, not one big crop per year. this means storage concerns are not as big of a issue
BIODIESEL IS BETTER THAN WHAT WE HAVE BUT SHOULD NOT BE WHAT WE ARE WORKING FOR. frankly i think it's a cheap cop-out that still suits the american oil industry
how is it not a good solution. it is carbon neutral (arguably carbon negative), can be used in current unmodified cars, can be made in our own country (from algae so that it doesnt affect food supply), and is ready to use TODAY!
I think this video should be edited to include captions.
