We found one in Florida that had fallen and impaled it's self on another tree branch. It looked like it must have tried everything to get off, but it hit right up it's behind and went out it's back near the shoulder blades. What a bad way to go. It was about 3 feet down the branch and had a few branches that acted like barbs, so when it tried to climb back up, the broken branches grabbed the skin, and wouldn't let it off. Really rare.
It could have been sugar. Too much sugar can poison monkeys,and they fall, They will eat it until they die. Gluttony, bullying, picking on the weak, stealing, vandalism, everything we are taught to hate in humans is supposed to be “cute” in monkeys. The biggest bully is the leader, and he kills the babies that aren't his. It's no wonder I can't stand monkeys.
Looks to me like a fall. It reacts to the movement the other vermin are making it go thru. When a 1 of these things fall, and they do it all the time, the others come up looking to eat whatever's on it, maggots, lice etc. They will keep moving it even if it is screaming.
Aw, this poor baby :-( At first I thought perhaps he was drunk before I realized he had fallen. There have been cases where monkeys would eat grapes that have fallen and fermented, and as a result become intoxicated. But as for this little guy, I can't say I'm optimistic about his survival :-/
What an amazing video, glad you were able to record it. And even with that head injury, he was still able to grasp and hold on to his mother. Sure wish I knew the out come of the little guy.
@dometnik No they were just looking for food on it. They don't care for each other. Like I said in the post before this, they're very selfish animals.
