  • Great informative video! I've been keeping an eye out for cabooses now and caught a nice one yesterday. Will post it soon.

  • That's cool John, I will watch for it

  • Hes most definitely on the road to nowhere... Are these things obsolete on American railways now Walter?

  • The railroads quit using them in favor of a light on the rear

  • @pwalpar ...so the carrier could cut off a man's job. These cabs were great in cold weather. I remember an errant switchman (not me this time) who fell asleep in a toasty caboose in the R-Yard at Inman and got humped over into CT-39 to a jarring awakening! He was seen with a cold wind to his back ascending the hill 4/5 of a mile to his work area.

  • LOL Ive done my share of dozing in A warm Cab

  • Fine little caboose, Walt....Thanks for posting....5*****

  • A concrete telephone booth huh? It looks more like a concrete telephone bunker to me Walt? They wanted to make sure them phones was protected I guess, lol? It's a cool caboose response video my friend and I learned something else new today thanks to your train videos... I was not aware of those concrete phone booths???

  • LOL Thanks Walker, I could have got one but it would take a wrecker or crane to bring it home Thanks for the compliment my friend

  • Thanks Wayne:-)

  • Walter, did you go Into Smiths and have some of that older gals smoked chicken,,,mmm good stuff. Good info on the caboose. As always, thankyou.

  • No but I stopped at the Lighthouse and got 3 catfish dinners to go. LOL

  • Now that you mention old cabooses I still an see old UP cabooses in the Longview Switching Companies Switching Yard off of SR 432 in Longview. I think the cabooses are from the 1960's if I remember correctly, I think the slogan on the caboose read Keep On Truckin' by rail. Also the Patriot Rail Corp. still uses cabooses on their trains that run out from the mill, since they don't you end of train devices.

  • Thanks John I think Cabooses are more practical anyway for a small operation railroad

  • Cool vid!

  • Thanks Jacob

  • Caboose could use some rust cleaning and paint.

  • I agree Don, A couple gallons would go a long way to improving it

  • Thanks For the morning lesson Bud You just Learned me a couple more things.

  • Thanks Brendan

  • Nice one Walter, lern`t a bit of history with your commentary, pity there is not a local team of enthusiast who could paint and restore the Caboose, well worth keeping

  • Thanks Dave, there really should be someone to care for their upkeep

  • great video as always and was all cabooses reddish orange

  • They were more reddish before rusting LOL Thanks

  • I remember seeing this when I went to look at the Confederate Cemetery and the site of the train wreck of 1864. A nice caboose that needs some care. Thanks.

  • Thanks Alfred, I may go by and check the cemetery out
