  • I might be related to the Macdonald Brothers :):)

  • listening to runrig songs on cds is good but you realy need to go see them live thay are majic.

  • Absolutely the best. Was at this concert and this video still tugs the heartstrings.

  • wotta band

  • run rig make me think of my dad he is dead but he loved them and went to there gigs and a love them to fuckin grat!!!!!!!!!!! huba!!! huba!!!

  • Runrig at their Best

  • good- then you will understand what the Dance of America means

Scottish history has many turns and twists...

  • thanks greyhawkk1!!! i have scottish neighbors! and i love the music!

  • I love this song. It reminds me of being 10 years old, and my whole family used to listen to this album. I am actually Scottish as well, not like most Runrig fans.

  • @funkyspangles pretty sad really that runrig as a band are supported more across europe than in there homeland for watever reason, Iv supported them since i was a boy brought up in Kyle of lochalsh i still support them 2 this day with donnie and with bruce how many bands can say they are still going strong after nearly 40 years

  • Say, can anyone tell me - just what exactly are they saying there "...I suppose he's a bit like a [xxx] really cos he's caught between two cultures" - he's a bit like a what???? For the life of me I can't make it out...

  • "hes a bit like ourselves" thats wot he says

  • Of course! It seems so obvious now... Thank you!

  • When you arrived in Canada you walked the streets Out of work out of money, prospects bleak Now the plane comes down from the morning sky And you touch the land where the fire won't die Johnny, you're home, man It's a long road You drove us down It's only a moment Since the diesels turned Now the blade cuts clean through the island soil The years roll back and the world grows small You stand on the banks in the wind and the rain
  • And all of your money now can't hide this pain

So you hold your mother and you bless the air

With the tears of the emigrant, tongue of the Gael

And the plane takes off in a clear blue sky

Life's a long lost list of last goodbyes

  • The heath flame is burning bright

    Burning every night

    It's winter in Ontario

The wheels that turned us village kids

    Still carry through the heaths

They no longer turn for you

  • Sorry i screwed up the order...

  • Love this song! Yay Canada :-)

  • have seen them twice with Donnie, they are brilliant love this song

  • ;-))

  • iv never seen them live sadly =( but loved them since i was a little kid ther jst awsome xD

  • brilliant band, saw them a few times .great live.

  • Mmmm this makes me put it in perspective, Australia where I was born and live are into AC/DC, The Angels and in Scotland its Runrig. Sort of the Australian eqilevent of Runrig in Australia is Midnight oil.

  • You could say Ac/Dc are also a scottish band

  • Yes you could that. I actually think of them more as a Scottish band then Australian. Its because they formed in Sydeny Australia. Theres a lot of annoying nationalistic aditude here in Australia about AC/DC being our own. Aussie pride all the way so annoying

  • long live Runrig, once with the wonderful voice of Donnie, but now with the wonderful voice of Bruce.

Must get to see them at Barrowlands before I get any older, think I need to get fitter though to stand in that crowd.

  • one of the greatest song from RUNRIG ever.

this voice can never be replaced by anyone than Donnie

  • just listen ... :-)

  • Great to hear Runrig the voice of Donnie can never be replaced and that beat great.

Its great to keep all the old cds and videos

Long live RUNRIG keep the beat

  • there from my neck of the woods!!!! loves them then love them now and will continue to love them in spirit when i return to my beloved scotland :)

  • My friend H.M from AOSC got me listening to these guys .... Thanks H.M ! .. this is such a moving song... Love it !

  • Love RunRig...my dad is still a big fan, basically how i gotlistening to them growing up....love this song.

Though my fav is "The Wire" from the album Transmitting live.

Also wish Donnie was still there but there still one amazing band though!

  • Great song, amazing band.

  • great.

  • outstanding!

  • brilliance is hard tae beet

  • @strongbowdavie too true!

  • I wish Donnie was still with Runrig, lost touch with their music when he left but great early childhood memories of the concerts!

  • one of the best songs I've ever heard. Donnie, I miss your voice

  • I will never forget Donnie singing this on his last night at Stirling. Every time I come North it's on the cd in the car. Pure class.

  • Quite simply the best song ever written, sung by the best singer in the best band in the world. The words are fantastic "so you hold your mother, you bless the air with the tears of the immigrant, tongue of the Gael, stunning!!!. I have been a runrig fan since about 14 (1985) and lost touch a bit with them when Donny left, but just have to have my fix of "the Cutter" every now and then, it's a song that will never leave me, nor do I want to ever forget.

  • To CalumRunrigForever :

Thats also my fav. moment when He sings these words. Donnie has such a pure, soaring and disarming voice at the same time. His voice goes straight to my heart.

  • Thanks for the comment, I bore people down here (down south now!!) about these lines, they just don't get it, however I do, and that's all that matters. The only other line that gets close for me is Bruce Springsteens "Streets of Philadelphia where he sings "ain't no angel going to greet you, it's just you and I my friend". In some strange way sometimes less is more in both this and the Runrig words, a few words, in both instances, tells a very big story. Thanks again

  • My dad has been a huge Runrig fan since I was born, so my ears were pumped full of it at high volume for a great number of years. It's great to see so many other people still listen to them, im only 22 but I know every single word. My dad's name is also Callum if that it yours.

  • this is off the city of lights at the barrowlands in 1990 which was a massive concert screened on scottish tv

  • Saw them in the Barralands when I was 17.

I take it this is part of a longer show or programme?

  • excellento !

  • Just like AC-DC thry were Great with Donnie and there still great with Bruce..

Do we in the islands really understand just what a good band they are?

Because ive just woke up to them a few years ago, and i never liked them because they were local!

    What an IDIOT!!!

  • For ollach: Don't beat yerself up, mate--you're enjoying them now, that's all that matters...30 years and still goin' strong, God bless them! I'm an American and have loved Celtic music since forever, but it was my daughter who brought Gaelic music into my life a year ago with Runrig and I've been smitten ever since.

Greets from the US and props for the post!

  • I think I was at this gig - Barras Dec 88 or 89. It was recorded for a TV special. The previous year was recorded for the Once in a lifetime live album. Am I right?

  • This one is for Dyslexgirl. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

  • fuck the english , independance now

  • the english arent the problem - if they were it would be easy. Its unionist Scots that are holding us back.

  • I would have said that the Bucky swilling unemployable Neds were more of an issue.

  • You are spot on pal but the benefit bodys who are afraid that their benefits may be affected with a change of goverment are also a big drawback to our aspirations

  • One of many words, fantastic, brilliant, I just adore this band, wonderful, what a sense of enchantment and history they engender in the listener. I love listening to them, what a privilege. Jo Sparkes

  • I love Runrig so much!! There are very few bands around which touch my heart like they do. Rory forever!!

  • Yeah, totally agree wit u there!!!

  • runrig is so amazing, why did Donnie Munro leave the band for politics? Absolute fantastic song

  • he thought he could get on the labour party gravy train. Pitty he stood for the wrong party as he could have won with a landslide.

  • i like this version better than the one on cd

  • Runrig is fantastic, brilliant, wonderful!

And Calum MacDonald is the greatest man on earth!!

  • I have just made a comment, but saw yours and just had to agree with you entirely, what a privilege to listen to such music that really touches the soul.
