  • and I remember him bringing me to smithfield market for a wee wander round the shops

  • Although born and bred around Belfast docks, my late dad used to sing this song all the time, specially when he'd downed a few brandy's and soda water...

  • This song is called 'The town I loved so well' and is about Londonderry, not Belfast ;) What a lovely song though, even though the band singing it are Republican leaning I still enjoy listening to it as a Unionist.

  • Great photos of a great city.....i remember getting my fist dog from a pet shop in smithfield....looks like the one from this video........great memories...thanks for posting

  • Loved the video. Who cares if the pictures were in there twice. Would have watched it over again anyhow. Keep up the great work.

Belfast lives on in the minds of those Born & raised there & left to live in other lands.

  • @Ulster1922 YHANKS FOR THE COMMENT.

  • That was great. It's the first time I've actually seen the Park Picture House and Mooney's, places my father has told me about many times, and are the settings for many stories in his memoirs. (He was born in Belfast in 1935.)

Do you happen to know if and where I can find photos of those places, and who I might contact for permission to reprint them? I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thanks again for this. I'll show it to my "da" and I'm sure he'll love it. :)

  • @campfirestories sent you a pm m8

  • great vids posted my mother (rip) was a very proud market woman from little may street wonderful to see the memories kept alive for the next generation to view.....keep up the good work.

  • good video i have been to all thoes places.ex pound loney man

  • Cool video,,,thanx for posting

  • It is good seeing the old photos, and stirring up the memory, but as has been said, it is a Derry song; and the lyrics put that beyond dispute...And it is only half the Song. Nice to watch despite all that, and no mistake...It is a pity that all the cities and towns look similar, and are losing their identity. Same shops, same chains of money spinners with the saome sad look about them. It is like a disease spreading, and it is not just in Ireland. Octopus of corporate madness consumes all.

  • Lovely Never Forget Belfast

  • thats a derry song though

  • belfast is the best place in the world, uve just become a snob?

  • Some great photos

  • Anyone notice how towards the end most of the photos were just repeated, in a sped-up fashion?

  • THIS IS MY TOWN ALWAYS WILL LOVE IT

  • Ah, those were the days. Apart from the Troubles that is! Reminds me of how much charm aul Belast used to have, even during the darkness. I'd forgotten about Micky Marley's Roundabout on High St. What a character he was! Now Belfast is just like any other town- bland, corporate and soulless. Damn shame.

  • magic photos, like going back in time, love the way you put du barrys on twice lol. everyone at my school had a ma that worked there!!!

  • LOL @ du barry comment. Brilliant
