  • Ihhh......

Realistic racers are fun for some people, I guess.

I'm hoping that SuperTuxKart gets a decent port.

In fact, I should probably try to help them out. ... It's really not a good game at all right now.

  • Dang! this thing could run Half-life 1 no problem!

  • Lol. It runs Doom 3 without problems.

  • what about Quake 3? Half Life 2?

  • Sorry, I dont know... You could ask in the forum :)

  • Seriously? Is there a video of that?

  • Lol. I want to see it running Doom 3 ;) With a 600Mhz CPU?

It certainly is a fuckin' great device, but I doubt it can handle Doom 3. Feel free to prove me wrong! :)

  • The developers said that, and it was discussed in the forums. Look at the TMS320C64 CPU: It has 4800 Mips at 600MHZ. Thats much more than an Athlon has at 1.2 GHZ!

Doom 3 does not run on the Pandora now because the source is closed and there is no emulator yet, but it will do...

  • @1hdsquad - You could not possibly emulate Doom 3 on the Pandora. The only x86 emulator we have as far as I remember are DOSbox and maybe qemu.

We'll have to wait for id Software to open the Doom 3 engine and then someone will probably be able to make a native port. Maybe.

  • Yes, since this is an ARM processor, source code will be a significant problem for games. HL1 runs great under Wine, but unless Valve decides to re-compile it for the Pandora or release a lot of stuff as free, it's not going to be on here.

I dunno about Doom 3, that mostly depends on the graphics processor and whether id cares enough to port it.

  • so, quake 3 arena could be ported to the pandora, because it's open source?

  • Yes, id Software realease most of their engines for free after a certain time, so the Doom 3 engine should follow up as free some time in the future as well.

Quake 2 and quake 3 already there.

  • probably, you'd just need to get some developers working on it.

I don't think id releases the actual levels as open, though, since they're like artwork. I dunno.

Nexuiz will prolly be on it :D

  • Yeah, Nexuiz would be AWESOME on this thing.

  • I was kinda hoping for Sauerbraten to be ported, but I'm not sure if it has the power for it. I guess we'll have to see.

  • me too ;)

  • is this going to have neGcon Support?

Pandora's awesome, can't wait to see 2097 running on it

    churr

    -Stevie

  • No.

How would you plug the neGcon into it?

  • you'd just use a Playstation to USB converter, the pandora has USB and mini USB

  • Nice, seems like the Pandora will be fantastic.

  • I dont think it will fail. The yarent going overboard like GP2X did with making large amounts.

  • What good games can you play with this ... "thing"? Or is it just for homebrew and emulation? Programing your own little games?

  • Homebrew includes games. There really will be whatever someone can think of on it.

  • yeah man GRAN TOURISMO 1 and 2 for Pandora. I hate it that Sony doesn´t release thos titles for PSP. Also i want Crash Bandicoot 1,2 and 3 for my PSP but they don´t remake it those fucks... I can only download Crash Bandicoot 1 for the build in PSOne emulator from Firmware 3.00 up. I have to pay 4,99€ for that OLD game. In this matter SONY sucks balls...

  • there's really no reason not to make a decent racing sim (screw arcade racers) on the pandora

the sgx can do a modest racetrack + cars nicely, some shader effects to jazz it up, and make a loader that can import the bajillions of rFactor tracks and cars.

A racing sim is the kind of game that can begin modestly and already be fun in the 0.2 version. great for a community project.

  • The pre orders has already sold out..

  • 1. There haven't been any previous versions of Pandora

    2. It's either GP32 or GP2X

    3. If by failure you mean none of your friends at pre-school has one that's hardly a criticism.

  • ??? Yeah the gp32 gp2x failed or didn´t they? When will the pandora come out? Oh wait as far as i know (i read it on someones site) it´s allready out. It cost 249€. Way to expensive for a console that has no REAL 3D games as far as i know. Why can´t i buy one in a normal store because it wouldn´t sell good i guess... Maybe i´m wrong. by the pre-school is over for many many years... at least for me

  • you are obviously not the Pandora's target audience, it's a niche product and that's why it wouldn't sell well in a normal store

and what do you mean by fail?

  • i am so waiting for this

  • you can do that on the psp though so whats the big deal?

  • It's a completely new system, that is physically better than the psp. Look it up.

  • i know what it is someone tryed it before with something else like a pda sideways on you can play ps1 games on the psp if you hack it this would just be a bit easyer but iv just found out how to play ps1 games on my dreamcast so i dont need one of these for £200im saving up for a direct x 9 laptop £250 that will allow me to run a ps1 emulator i already have a joypad to usb adapter ready to use my gamecube joypad with it

  • This doesn't require any "hacking" at all. I'm sure drivers will come out so you can use your joypad with this system once its released.

  • yes but it wont have a ps1 joypad port built in will it no so you would need a joybox adapter tv out is a must have this is going to appeal to the underground market but how will they sell it to normal people cus they wont want to be messing about to make it run sony need a downloader hard drive portible type divice for gameing games straight on for £2 just plug in click the one you want and it automaticaly does the rest

  • I can't quite understand some of you points so forgive me if I miss-interpret you. There is no need for a ps1 port to be built in, the controls built in are fine by any standard. Tv out is there. Of course it's not gonna appeal to mainstream public as much. The games aren't everything, there will be multimedia support and easy wifi browsing from the start. It's not that hard to download a file and put it on the device so you can play a game for free.

  • You can do this on a PSP but:

    - the pandora is much more powerful (just look up the ti-omap specs and see what other omap boards with identical hardware are already running)

    - you don't need to muck around with it. No Firmware hacking, no firmware version hell, no bricking of devices

    - you can do what you want with it... no stupid, artificial restrictions

    - it is a handheld... let me see you playing ps1 games on your dx9 laptop when waiting at the bus station

  • you must be mad you got that out in my town you'd have it nicked off you in minutes

  • Looks great, I want XL!

  • looks like its running @ 200+fps

  • great! What about the FPS?

  • First !!! XD

    Great !!!!! keep walking !!!
