Hey everyone! If you're cheese fam you obviously have superior taste in tunes so i thought I'd recommend some more artists for you based on that. I consider myself something of an expert on the topic. You guys should all check out Bassnectar and my personal fav, Skrillex. Since you like Cheese you should love these artists. I'm trying to improve my recommendation skills so let me know what you think and how I can improve because its my dream to be a Disc Jockey.
I like the dead and phish but there is something about this band that lacks the oomph that puts other jam bands on the map. its like they are talented and all but they are soo generic. Its all been done before, it feels like they are actors playing a jam band for a movie.
@CBrusich I can see where you think they are generic, but like pop on that "Way back home" from Winter Carn 2011 and you'll see it's really not.
The meld the bluegrass, prog rock, jazz fusion, even trance, jam sound really well. I'd say they all play with generic tones though (Phish and The Dead tend to play with theirs...a lot). Plus the whole Kang and "I want to be Trey!!!" thing is a turn off.
But you're right it has been done before. I was done before Phish even started.
I saw string cheese in the mid nineties, in telluride, at fly me to the moon saloon. There were maybe twenty people there. My girlfriend was flirting with Kang while we were dancing. Bastard.
A great cover to one of my favorite Dead tunes. Jerry would have jumped right on stage and jammed along side these guys with a big Shit Eating grin on his face.
You are rght Jerry was very influenced by bluegrass he played in a blugrass group in the 70's called old nd in the way. But I would call the New Riders more country rock then bluegrass
you do realize that this is a traditional song, and the dead or anyone else jerry played this with were just puttin their ownself into it an making it their own? just like the cheese is doin?... stop trolling and enjoy the music..

Very good version. This is closer to the Seldom Scene's approach than the Dead.
If you can find it ,the Seldom Scene's interpretation is the best I have heard, from "Live at the Cellar Door."
This is really great.

There may be a little difference between deadheads and cheesefeet. The latter don´t clap their hands but only tap their stinkin elephant ends

Are you kidding? Bluegrass was a HUGE influence on Jerry's playing. Have you ever heard New Riders of the Purple Sage?

I always thought GRASS had a grat influence on Jerry´s playing. He´s gone and nothing´s gonna bring him back.
