ok guys...heres the truth...the SPARTAN II were sent to a mission to capute a covernant vessel and then take it to their (Covernant) homework to capute the Prophet but then the covernant attacked Reach....before that Cortana choose to be with John-117 because she had the chance to choose wich Spartan she wanted..and choose John and they tested the new Cortana-John stuff in a test and completed it. So that with Noble 6 in Halo:Reach is something that isnt in the books..stop flaming and read them

I have read the book :) very interesting to see how the Spartans started out
