This guy really doesn't know film. His instructions might generally work for this particular projector make and model but there are TONS of other makes and models. He also makes many other general points in this video that are simply false. He's not even close to being an expert.
Yeah this video isn't all that helpful for Manual and Slot threaders. Though most manual projectors have the instructions printed on the the projector somewhere, and slot loaders are fairly obvious, just put it through the slot.
It's a helpful tutorial. This looks like a Bell and Howell 2592. This video is useful for all the autothread B & H machines in this series, but not so handy for the many other brands like Eiki, Elmo, RCA, Graflex, Victor, etc.
Thank you so much! - I've got a birthday party tomorrow, 1920s theme and have some Charlie Chaplin film - I'm using my Dad's projector and, with your help I've loaded it up successfully for viewing - and I'm a girl!!! Girl power!! x
16mm films come in more than "three sizes." Reel sizes range anywhere from 50 ft. reels up to 2300 ft. reels. he is threading a 400 ft. reel in this demo. Films on reels of this size run approx. 8 minutes.
@editdave 200 ft, 400 ft, 600 ft, 800 ft, 1200 ft, 1600 ft, and 2000 ft reels for what I remembered. I don't think a 2300 ft reel would fit on any 16mm projector.
Sometimes it can be best to thread the film manually. You forgot to mention that the leader should be properly clipped at its leading edge. Most projectors have a small cutter and jig for this.
Ok, so where do you put the DVD?

Still remember those projectors being used in school.

You didn't mention that you need to release the auto-feeding mechanism after you've threaded the film through the machine.

Oh how cool -- I recognized the film music right away (playing at the end). From that old Thor cartoon. How cool!

@Rlotpir1972
A 2300 foot reel has the same diameter as a 2000ft reel, but with a smaller hub to fit that last 300ft

Kinda cool, but then again, basically every 16mm projector threads differently, so I'm not sure how useful this video will be in the long run.

You very often thread ,many auto threading projectors the same way. But if you have a manual loading projector then it can be very tofferent.

Of course you may want to note that not all projectors autoload.
