Venom had a very good understanding of the importance of lighting to create mood/atmosphere. I wish this was availible as a clearer, crisper recording. It sounds very murky.

Part of the fun of Venom is that they scared some people shitless,but those of us who grew up metalheads in the '80's knew that Venom had a Spinal Tappish quality to them. That's a good thing.
You know, for a long time, I didn't listen to Venom because I was afraid it was gonna scare the living shit out of me...even when I started listening to Metal!
I guess that somehow the Great British were the Trailblazers for the whole Black Metal scene? Today everybody knows the black metal scene has moved. I personally liked beside Venom the old good German bands like Soddom and Kreator. I am from Sweden and we had some good Black Metal from this country (Therion) ,King Diamond from Denmark, Mayhem from Norway and Children of Bodom from Finland.
Pretty sure this is a 'live in the studio' effort. This isn't anything like the 'Witching Hour' audio from the 'Hell at Hammersmith' album of the same year and sounds more like them around the 1983-84 era rather than a year later. Venom never sounded that clean live. Plus we don't get to see a crowd shot to prove it's actually live.
Actually listening to it again, it sounds like it may have been recorded circa the 'Black Metal' album era of 1981 and they do look very young and fresh. Surely someone can verify the year for certain?
You're trying to say Venom can't play shit? I see Mantas doing some serious riffage, chords, tapping, cery complex musical structures. With Chronos keeping the temp every fucking time then you've got the mad backlining drumming pounding you constantly through every song .. You see that massive drum kit?
On top of that, Chronos is on the top of my favorite frontmen. Everyone in the band at the time seemed like nice people, too. Great band .. best on the Combat Tour imo
Although the audio is certainly from a live performance, I pretty sure we're seeing and hearing two different performances. Take a good look at 2:03. He isn't within 2m of his mic but somehow you still hear Cronos. It doesn't appear to be a sync issue either.
at 3:12 Cronos is head banging the fuck out of it and he sounds like he's saying "Witchinggggggggg hourr!!"
to tell you the truth, I don't think this is the true audio from this show because it sounds way too good for a 1985 live recording. ever hear Slayer when they played the same year on the Combat tour? Venom and Bathory are still my 2 favourite early black metal bands. Not to mention they are both in my top 5 favourite bands list.

Part of the fun of Venom is that they scared some people shitless,but those of us who grew up metalheads in the '80's knew that Venom had a Spinal Tappish quality to them. That's a good thing.

I guess that somehow the Great British were the Trailblazers for the whole Black Metal scene? Today everybody knows the black metal scene has moved. I personally liked beside Venom the old good German bands like Soddom and Kreator. I am from Sweden and we had some good Black Metal from this country (Therion) ,King Diamond from Denmark, Mayhem from Norway and Children of Bodom from Finland.

Pretty sure this is a 'live in the studio' effort. This isn't anything like the 'Witching Hour' audio from the 'Hell at Hammersmith' album of the same year and sounds more like them around the 1983-84 era rather than a year later. Venom never sounded that clean live. Plus we don't get to see a crowd shot to prove it's actually live.

Actually listening to it again, it sounds like it may have been recorded circa the 'Black Metal' album era of 1981 and they do look very young and fresh. Surely someone can verify the year for certain?

You're trying to say Venom can't play shit? I see Mantas doing some serious riffage, chords, tapping, cery complex musical structures. With Chronos keeping the temp every fucking time then you've got the mad backlining drumming pounding you constantly through every song .. You see that massive drum kit?
On top of that, Chronos is on the top of my favorite frontmen. Everyone in the band at the time seemed like nice people, too. Great band .. best on the Combat Tour imo

Although the audio is certainly from a live performance, I pretty sure we're seeing and hearing two different performances. Take a good look at 2:03. He isn't within 2m of his mic but somehow you still hear Cronos. It doesn't appear to be a sync issue either.

to tell you the truth, I don't think this is the true audio from this show because it sounds way too good for a 1985 live recording. ever hear Slayer when they played the same year on the Combat tour? Venom and Bathory are still my 2 favourite early black metal bands. Not to mention they are both in my top 5 favourite bands list.
