Oberst was also profoundly influenced by the work of Elliott Smith, saying in an October 22, 2003 All Things Considered interview that "sometimes when you're not feeling good, you have to listen to really sad music like Elliott Smith's" and that [Smith] "wrote the sweetest, saddest, most gentle songs".
i love him live! its just like listening to a cd. unlike lots of artists...he actually has talent beyond the recording studio. his lyrics are amazing also.
Elliott Smith influenced Conor alot. I know I'm probably going to start a long unintelligible youtube argument by saying this, but I think Elliott has more heart in his pinky than Conor has in his whole body.
Both are great song writers, but Conor has been doing this from the age of 12. Hard to say Elliott influenced him when tec. he start recording music before him.
I'm not saying he hasn't heard like, "Roman Canndle" (1994) and wasn't like, "Wow, what a great album." Just saying "influenced" isn't the best word.
this gig was one of the most amazing experiences of my life...i was the twat that shouted 'with just our flashlights and our love' during at the bottom of everything hehe
I think they have that many songs that nobody will ever be completely pleased with the songs they play as everybody has their own favourites! I was hoping for a bit more from I'm Wide Awake and I was pretty gutted they didn't do my favourite from Cassadaga (Classic Cars)! But it was still the most amazing thing on this earth. They did brilliantly. :)
i know its just my preference and all but im dying for him to play haligh haligh a lie haligh live i would kill for that(also i think the support band let it down a bit) i saw them in leeds about 2 years ago and rilo kiley(i highly reccomend a little bit like the folky side of bright eyes) were supporting and they almost rivalled bright eyes for talent it was the best ever
yeah sharp but to be truthful as much as i like all of his music bar maybe 2 tracks out of his 100+ collection of songs i really wanted him to play a couple more songs from fevers and mirrors ,as cassadaga is probably my second least favourite album(which obviously he was going to play as it was newer stuff) dont get me wrong i still enjoyed it i just wish i could have chosen the songs
are you joking, the songs were amazing!!!! calendar, symmetry, southern state, first day, wont ever be happy, gold mine gutted!!!!!! and a shit load of cassadaga
i won't ever be happy again.

Partyboy reckons the title of this song adequately sums up his day to day state of mind and explains his painkiller addiction.

I laughed at the negative ratings you got for this. I actually agree...and I'm both a huge Bright Eyes and Elliott Smith fan.
