I have known of this singer since my childhood in the early 1950s through my father who was also a great fan of Caruso and Gigli, so as you can see he had a wonderful ear for great singers!! The Easter hymn sung by anyone decent always brings tears to my eyes and this version is no exception. Wonderful lady, wonderful voice, and on top of all this she used to be a wonderful golfing champion, just remarkable.
This sounds like an early moning, not yet fully awake, Easter procession. Dame Joan Hammond is well to the fore. I like the short postlude for orchestra and organ that follows always to be included in recordings of this excerpt from "Cavalleria Rusticana". - John Austin, Australia
