I just don't understand all this hatred between American and British boxing fans. I am American and yes, Joe Calzaghe is a disappointment. So is Floyd Mayweather. So is every other boxer who only fought opponents they knew they could beat. History will remember great fights, not fighters who think they're great. Legends arise out of competition, not flawless records. Calzaghe was not a "bum," but don't mistake him for an all-time great either.

roy in his prime was much faster than calzaghe ever was. look at any of roys old fights. look at him with percy harris, hopkins, and telesco. just too fast, joe should have fought roy like 7-8 years ago cuz they both would have been better but roy back then wasnt droppin weight like crazy and hurting his ability. No fighter in heavyweight history was as complete as he was. If any fighter should have been undefeated it's Tyson. After he fired Rooney & King got a hold of him, he was done. All power & speed. No stamina & shaky chin. Didn't train hard. I was never big on Marciano because he was a dirty fighter. Props to him though. He had great power & stamina.
@andy34swales Your favorite fighter beat mine. Marvin Hagler was a machine. There is an ongoing debate as to who won between him & Leonard. I think Hagler did enough to win. Leonard did very well to be fighting a champ like Hagler after a 5 year layoff but I still to this day think Hagler was robbed. I lost respect for Leonard when he didn't give Hagler the rematch. After all Hagler did give up the WBA & IBF titles to fight him & the fight was very close. He deserved a rematch. Both was great.

Boxing treated him like dirt & after the Leonard decision he'd had enough. Leonard stole most of the rounds in that fight. He stayed defensive or clowning til the last 45 seconds then throw punches towards the end of the round. Funny how he came out of "retirement" when Hagler left the sport. He knew in the rematch Hagler would have ko'ed him.

I just don't understand all this hatred between American and British boxing fans. I am American and yes, Joe Calzaghe is a disappointment. So is Floyd Mayweather. So is every other boxer who only fought opponents they knew they could beat. History will remember great fights, not fighters who think they're great. roy in his prime was much faster than calzaghe ever was. look at any of roys old fights. look at him with percy harris, hopkins, and telesco. just too fast, joe should have fought roy like 7-8 years ago cuz they both would have been better but roy back then wasnt droppin weight like crazy and hurting his ability. Dropping 20 pounds from your true weight class you lose power ans speed cuz your not use to fighting at that weight it makes you sluggish.

If Calzagne or Eubank was so damn good, why not travel where the big bucks are & challenge the best? During both their prime the top money was in the states cause the big names was there. Neither of them could draw flies holding rotted fish outside if the uk. They was both unknown because they mostly fought bums.

@andy34swales Calzaghe could have fought him earlier, and he could have fought Roy earlier as well.Instead, he fought no names in Wales for years and then decided to fight Roy and B-Hop when they were old, and past their prime so he had a better chance of winning.They are his two best wins, and he should have fought them years ago. @andy34swales cus dmato/kevin rooney/pre don king Tyson was the perfect fighter. Power, speed, chin, stamina, head movement, hard to hit, & respect. No fighter in heavyweight history was as complete as he was. If any fighter should have been undefeated it's Tyson. After he fired Rooney & King got a hold of him, he was done. All power & speed. No stamina & shaky chin. Didn't train hard. I was never big on Marciano because he was a dirty fighter. Props to him though. He had great power & stamina.

@andy34swales Your favorite fighter beat mine. Marvin Hagler was a machine. There is an ongoing debate as to who won between him & Leonard. I think Hagler did enough to win. Leonard did very well to be fighting a champ like Hagler after a 5 year layoff but I still to this day think Hagler was robbed. I lost respect for Leonard when he didn't give Hagler the rematch. After all Hagler did give up the WBA & IBF titles to fight him & the fight was very close. He deserved a rematch. Both was great.

@andy34swales Hagler retired because Leonard wouldn't give him a rematch. He chased Leonard for a year trying to get 1. All he want was respect. Boxing treated him like dirt & after the Leonard decision he'd had enough. Leonard stole most of the rounds in that fight. He stayed defensive or clowning til the last 45 seconds then throw punches towards the end of the round. Funny how he came out of "retirement" when Hagler left the sport. He knew in the rematch Hagler would have ko'ed him.

Hearns beat his ass & they called it a draw. No way was that a draw! I lost respect for Leonard for the Hagler treatment & not owning up to the fact he lost to Hearns. The 2nd Duran fight. That was a farce. Leonard ran most of the fight & clowned almost all of it to get the fans/judges on his side. Leonard could fight though.
