you irish are so bitter that someone took the trouble to write a song against the british ,about a barren rock lol crazy how about the azores , canaries, tristan de cuna and so on
I realy dont understand why anyone is bringing England into this, it has nothing to do with England, the fact is that Rockall is Scottish, Scotland is the nearest mainland to Rockall, not Ireland and not England, and that makes Rockall BRITISH.
these cunts should get a fucking grip, they make a song about anything to slander Britain. I'll admit that I give leeway on IRA songs or what not since they have a right to sing what they want, BUT they make a song about a goddamn rock in the ocean because its British.
@1798UnitedIrishMen rob it off you lol , rockall is officiallly part of invernesshire , it was first landed on by a british 200 years or more ago, plus has only had people on ot overnight 4 times , you irish should of built your own navy and found your own rocks to claim lol.and no, some irish giant didnt throw a rock and it landed their ,haha , its never belonged to you so how cant you say we robbed you
@ArchbishopOfCombat18 theres nothing "racist" stating the empire is dead....the english state has been land grabbing in the past........mentioning whitehall is not racist......the english arent a fucking race hahaha...they are mixture of mainly celts and then saxons normans and then all comers
It's Scottish. Anyone who thinks it's closer to Ireland should check out Google Earth. Forget St Kilda, it's still closer to Scotland. I understand the Faroe claim, but Ireland and Iceland should keep out of it.
@TomBarry192I Thanks for clearing that up, You can't really claim that Skye isn't part of the mainland though. And surely by your reasoning you'd need an independent Hebrides. Interestingly, it seems from Google Earth to br equidistant from Dublin and Edinburgh. :) I agree that you can't count St Kilda, but you can count Skye.
@TomBarry192I Rockall is already part of Scotland, In 1972, the Isle of Rockall Act was passed, formally incorporating the tiny island of Rockall into Scotland as part of the Isle of Harris, Inverness-shire. Harris is now within Na h-Eileanan Siar, formerly known as the Western Isles local government area.
Interestingly, the Isle of Man was part of the Kingdom of Scotland also.
@ElseMush thats bullshit ireland is closer donegal is the closet area to it the nearest scottish land to line up with ireland is - at the antrim coast - Which is occupied counties of Northern Ireland... Its Irish terrrority just like the las Malvinas is Argentina's occupied again by Britain...
@garyb462 It's 314 km from Skye and 430 km to Donegal. It's closer still to the Outer Hebrides. As for the Falklands, they are different. They are habitable. The rules are different. As the British claimed them first (before Argentina even existed) then they are British. Surely as (I assume) an Irishman, you would take the wishes of the legitimately settled (no one denies this as far as I can tell) population as most important. Otherwise how do you justify even an Irish state?
@ElseMush And times are changing the empire is gone so wise up and scotland has no rights to call rockall its not independent try maybe in 5years and you can call it the thing is its irish terrority its been claimed before even britain existed and its in folklore here so its irish terrority and to justify an irish state? Irish people where free before the brits and where the same people to populate scotland as you can see - The lanuages are nearly the same only different in unique ways
@garyb462 Rockall isn't habitable so it can't be claimed in such way. There's a UN rule about it. The distance from the capital thing in interesting but is just a distraction - no sensible person would split things that way. It's the nearest inhabited land that's important. Rockall was British and wasn't covered by agreement when Ireland broke away. So, the proximity to Scotland is the most important. Anyway, I'll give you the last word Sir, I would prefer a united Britain in any case.
@ElseMush Seagul can be the capital hehe :) Anyway scotland is going to be independent in a few years... so you might ant to move down the border if your not happy:c
@garyb462 Wrong, it's Scottish Rock, not Irish, the Scottish isle of Skye is closer to it by 314km than it is to Ireland, Ireland is too far away from both of them.
@Englanistan same could be said about England and the Falklands !!!! But England claim that is theirs ,so what I am getting at here is it is ours bye right of conquest , just like the Falklands and Gibraltar
C'mon the RA! As a Scot way Irish in me I'm proud of my heritage, freedom fer Ireland, gie em back the teddys head, and gie us back or bonnie land tae!!

@Felidista It's determined by longitude therefore it's nearer Ireland. Even if it wasn't it's still nearer Ireland than Scotland. Anyway who cares as it is only a lump of rock that couldn't support human life. It's only a rebel song.
Which Scots do you mean? There wasn't even a country called 'Scotland' when the first people called 'Scots' (who were GAELS from Ireland) showed up. Now, let's not overlook the Picts, who fought, married, and assimiliated into the Gaels. Let's not forget that theere were other Caledonian peoples. Let's not leave out the Britons, and later the Angles. What about the Norse, and later the Normans? It's a mixed bag, and has been since before people there were writing down history.

Im an Irish Nationalist and love this song buts its just a stupid rock and not worth fighting for even tho it should belong to a United Ireland so should the isle of man
because its in the irish sea and Finn Mccool droped that two into the water there for its Irish. but nice song and peace out, UP DA IRISH REPUBLIC
the English just think that any song that doesn't proclaim their greatness at conquering other lands is written by 'romanticists'. Never mind the fact they invaded, raped and sneered their way across half the world and wonder why there are songs all over the world singing about what complete arrogant shitheads their 'empire' was and in many cases continues to be. Romanticism? I call it the truth in verse.
@Robaich82 Oh it was just the English was it? Don't you realise that since 1707 Scotland became a part of Britain and as such was implicated in any empire building as was Ireland post 1801 when they became part of the United Kingdom too.
@TomBarry192I Ur right :) and we proudly stood behind the Irish and the Irish have helped us tremendously, actually if it wasnt for the irish people America wouldnt be as prosperous as it is!
@Xen1aserman as a matter of interest ,was the food the americans supplied to stop you`s starving shite? was the fuel it supplied for your war machine shite? were the new `liberty ships they built to keep you`s supplied shite? was the money they lent you to keep the ball rolling shite?-typical brit-just a myopic, ungrateful bastard. the first destroyers may have been ww1 mothballed fleet they supplied-but remember they were needed immediately.
@TomBarry192I i think tom, truth be told britains war debt can never be fully paid-thet will keep paying in succesive generations blood. and what xen maybe doesn`t know or chooses to ignore is that the european union`s fishing fleet has taken more money out of irish waters in first point of sale fish than they ever put into the country-double that again for fish taken illegally and double it all again with the work that fish harvested out of irish waters provided to our continental `bedmates`
@TheTootitoot Fair Play brother. Religion was brought into this conflict by the media & politicians to dis-associate themselves from blame. Now, we would all be in denial if we did not acknowledge a certain amount of sectarianism in society, but, the facts remain that a huge part of our island is under armed control, & we have a corrupt government i
im from donegal ireland i lik my rebals the truth is the uk isent helping us out by giving us money thay wont 2 make a profit off us so go fuk the orange protesent counts up da ra and god bless bobby sands
mate im from Drumnadrochit in the Scottish Highlands. I want nothing more than for Ireland to be United and to have a healthy strong economy. But please dont be so bitter and bring religion into it. Like most Highlanders Im a Presbyterian but never think of Irish folk as different because their Catholic. We are brothers, we have similar histories, both have suffered at the hands of the English, we both have Gaelic heritage and both want to see our nations strong :)
@TheTootitoot may i ask if u know ur history could u tell me when did presbyterianism take over the highlands i was always of the idea that the highlanders as in the bonny prince's followers were catholic in the main my real question is the catholics of scotland today are they mostly of irish descent?
@laochgael1 Protestant Presbyterianism became the majority faith in Scotland following the reformation of the 1560's. It did however take a while for this to spread to the Highlands and Islands which remained mostly Catholic for decades after. Yes most Highland clans supported the Catholic prince Charlie's risings in 1745 and fought and died in Culloden, however following this the Highlands steadily became Protestant. Catholic stronghold’s remain, particularly in Barra, South Uist and benbecula
@laochgael1 The Highlands is a rich mix of Hard line Presbyterianism (witnessed in the isles of Lewis and Harris, North Uist and Skye, along with most of the mainland and around the Highlands city of Inverness) and small pockets of Roman Catholicism in the southern outer Hebrides. The Highlands are the last place in the UK to observe the strict Presbyterian Sabbath. Not all Catholics in Scotland are Irish decent, mostly a mix of both Highland and Irish migration to Glasgow and the West coast.
@laochgael1 to sum up religion in the Gaidhealtachd is an incredibly difficult task but I hope I've made it clearer :D. Basicly the Highlands was very similar to Ireland up until Culloden in 1746. Following this Gaelic was banned, Tartan and the bagpipes were also outlawed and many clans became Protestant upon the arrival of Church of Scotland misionaries.
@TheTootitoot Thats a briiliant thing to says mate!!..PERFECT and TRUE..To many people are secterian and dont see the real picture.I am Scottish and Catholic and also have relations who are Protestants on my mothers side but i also want Ireland United to grow stronger and to be free of British rule..In 10 years or less the so-called uk/Britain will be gone anyway and we will all be Free from English Rule.
@TheTootitoot tomas funny i irish myself funny that the english think their safe sure only half the world hates them from rebals of the highlands to the boxers in china we all have 1 thing in common "revenge"
@TheTootitoot damn right to that. Half catholic half presbyterian, born to a first generation and a second generation immigrant set of parents. whats funny is here in America, most presbyterians support a united ireland, and I reckon it might be the same in scotland too, not surprised one bit. The presbyterian church teaches freedom and unity in christ, not oppression, empire, and bigotry.
@TheTootitoot People forget that the Scots hate the English as much as us Irish :L People always bring religion into that argument and it solves nothing,
@TheTootitoot wish I knew more people like you, I myself am Catholic and first generation Irish and i live in a town populated by brits and Scots, but i get treated like shit like me and the other "inhuman Micks"
@Anon12356 Trust me mate I know my roots, perhaps your disconnected from your heritage but Im certainly not. Highland children were being beaten in school for speaking Gaelic, their native langugage, up until the 1970's. It may not be on the same scale as centuries past but our struggle is still very much alive. Even today Scotland has her oil profits stripped from her to London and many locals cant afford homes in their own towns because of English 'holiday' homes!
@Anon12356 Piss off ya wee fuck, you clearly an english fucker anyways, so gie us back our money for the oil you stole, leave our land, leave Ireland, i dont gie a fuck bout wales, keep that if they happy, but keep yer hands off our lands!
Such a lot of hate in these comments! Unfortunately, all smaller islands have at one time or another been colonised by their larger and more powerful neighbours. Doesn't make it right of course. English landlords in Eire were bad, but so were some of the Irish landlords. All of Ireland should be a separate country, but it isn't that easy. And to my mind, Rockall looks equidistant from both mainland England and Ireland! LOL!
@eamo128 USA and Australia are succesful countries because of Britains influence. They were both forged with British values and followed the British model on how to form a succesful country, Irelands contribution to the world is absolutely fuckall apart from moaning about how hard done by they are by Britain. If anyone nasty decided to come and have a pop at Ireland we'd be the first country you'd come running to for help!
Then again after murdering, rapeing and destroying our country for 800 years, giving us a few billion is the least you can do. You stole alot more than that from us and rest of the world.
hold on here sure without the usa u would be speaking german now and by the way the imf came into england in the 70s and dont u worry we will bounce back whats the north going to do? get more handouts from london?
@powercommander79 fuck usa also, cause the world speaks "americano" instead of german now (and i dont think the germans will be this succesful in expansionism and cultural assimilation) usa fucked whole world with her popular culture,so fuck hitler ,queen and american imperialist pigs
@Invernessian Couldnt agree more mate. Rockall is part of Ghaidhealtachd - the Scottish Highlands! Its nearer St Kilda than Donegal.
I wish that people acknowledged the suffering that highlanders went through at the hands of southern scots and the english. Our way of life was banned, our language, traditional dress banned, famine, cleared from our homes to make room for sheep by greedy landownders. I wish that every now and then our Irish brothers would remember what happened to us up here.
@Xen1aserman Listen you bigoted, racist cunt, nobody gives a shit about the irish economy. The Free State is a conservative country, so the economy was inevitably going to collapse sooner or later. And what the fuck does that have to do with Rockall?
This song is about the greedy expansionist imperialist policies of the British Empire, not how many euros to the dollar. This is about the Irish struggle, not fucking corporation tax.
@Xen1aserman what success have you had only for being best known for murdering raping pillagers who destroyed every land you set your feet upon.its comments like yours that show why evey nation hates your guts.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
hah, do irish really care about a fucking rock so bad to make a song about it? here in britain we don't give a shit about this rock, yet here you irish are singing ballads about it and crying into your points
@Xen1aserman its not just about the rock , its representative of standing up to oppression? thats just my interpritation, and im only 14, but i suppose it also has a spiritual meaning.
@thegrimeician haha, you sound jealous, english bands have defined music, in all genres over the last 50 years, go cry to your paddy mother you fenian cunt
@Xen1aserman alot of them with Irish ancestry in them, 3/4 of the beatles irish descent, the gallagher brothers another example, the smiths, johnny marr and morrissey. its a long list.
@Xen1aserman noel gallagher said he was irish, morrissey had a song about being part irish, john lennon and paul mccartney supported Irish freedom and wrote songs about it, yet you only have problems with americans?
@Xen1aserman ......well if u wer an Irish man u would understand d love we hav 4 our land +rocks.....but obivously u dont caus u take watever u want witout askin...dats why we call u Bas***DS....+SO DOES D REST OF D WORLD......
@Xen1aserman last i checked england had a claim to it aswell, along with denmark and iceland. And its for water around it for fishin and oil not just the rock ya clem.

the English just think that any song that doesn't proclaim their greatness at conquering other lands is written by 'romanticists'. Never mind the fact they invaded, raped and sneered their way across half the world and wonder why there are songs all over the world singing about what complete arrogant shitheads their 'empire' was and in many cases continues to be. Romanticism? I call it the truth in verse.
Robaich82 1 year ago
@Robaich82 Oh it was just the English was it? Don't you realise that since 1707 Scotland became a part of Britain and as such was implicated in any empire building as was Ireland post 1801 when they became part of the United Kingdom too.

Now, we would all be in denial if we did not acknowledge a certain amount of sectarianism in society, but, the facts remain that a huge part of our island is under armed control, & we have a corrupt government i

mate im from Drumnadrochit in the Scottish Highlands.

@TheTootitoot may i ask if u know ur history could u tell me when did presbyterianism take over the highlands i was always of the idea that the highlanders as in the bonny prince's followers were catholic in the main my real question is the catholics of scotland today are they mostly of irish descent?
laochgael1 11 months ago
@laochgael1 Protestant Presbyterianism became the majority faith in Scotland following the reformation of the 1560's. It did however take a while for this to spread to the Highlands and Islands which remained mostly Catholic for decades after. Yes most Highland clans supported the Catholic prince Charlie's risings in 1745 and fought and died in Culloden, however following this the Highlands steadily became Protestant. Catholic stronghold’s remain, particularly in Barra, South Uist and benbecula
TheTootitoot 11 months ago
@laochgael1 The Highlands is a rich mix of Hard line Presbyterianism (witnessed in the isles of Lewis and Harris, North Uist and Skye, along with most of the mainland and around the Highlands city of Inverness) and small pockets of Roman Catholicism in the southern outer Hebrides. The Highlands are the last place in the UK to observe the strict Presbyterian Sabbath. Not all Catholics in Scotland are Irish decent, mostly a mix of both Highland and Irish migration to Glasgow and the West coast.
TheTootitoot 11 months ago
@laochgael1 to sum up religion in the Gaidhealtachd is an incredibly difficult task but I hope I've made it clearer :D. Basicly the Highlands was very similar to Ireland up until Culloden in 1746. Following this Gaelic was banned, Tartan and the bagpipes were also outlawed and many clans became Protestant upon the arrival of Church of Scotland misionaries.
Cheers mate, Dia duit.

@TheTootitoot tomas funny i irish myself funny that the english think their safe sure only half the world hates them from rebals of the highlands to the boxers in china we all have 1 thing in common "revenge"
theDking550 8 months ago 11
@TheTootitoot damn right to that. Half catholic half presbyterian, born to a first generation and a second generation immigrant set of parents. whats funny is here in America, most presbyterians support a united ireland, and I reckon it might be the same in scotland too, not surprised one bit. The presbyterian church teaches freedom and unity in christ, not oppression, empire, and bigotry.

have you suffered at the hands of the english? no, maybe your ancestors hundreds of years ago. for all you know they could have been english anyway.
Anon12356 4 months ago
@Anon12356 Trust me mate I know my roots, perhaps your disconnected from your heritage but Im certainly not. Highland children were being beaten in school for speaking Gaelic, their native langugage, up until the 1970's. It may not be on the same scale as centuries past but our struggle is still very much alive. Even today Scotland has her oil profits stripped from her to London and many locals cant afford homes in their own towns because of English 'holiday' homes!
TheTootitoot 3 months ago
