And as a hip hop dancer, it's important to understand the roots of the dance. lockerlegends dot net is an incredible place to start for lockin history. You are referring to poppin, which involves something called hits and stops (what I think you are calling the lock). Locking was started by Don Campbell in the late 60's in South Central LA. Poppin is a blanket term that refers to a bunch of different styles, boogaloo, wavin, tuttin, ticks, struttin, etc. (outta room...)
