For many years back in the 90s I believe there were a number of major corporations that lobbied the US government to copy Canada's health care system because they had to pay massive amounts of money in health care benefits and it was hurting them financially.

The quality of PRIVATE healthcare in the UK is no worse than that of healthcare in the US. People who don't like the free care go private if they can afford it. The difference between the US and UK system seems to me to be that in the US, if you can't afford private healthcare, you risk going without treatment or getting in serious debt, whereas here if you can't afford it, you get free healthcare that's of a somewhat lower standard but that's sufficient for most people's needs.
It's not government run. It's government *administered*. The government won't control the healthcare but "process the bills". How's Social Security doing? It seems that it's ok. 2%-3% overhead. It's not a retirement program but rather a safety net. Contrary to popular belief it's not going bankrupt. It's a scare tactic.

Yes, but investing in health care, renewable energy and so on now is going to have tens of trillions in the future. Look at the estimated budget for healthcare in 2020, 2030 and so on, its huge! Also, tackling climate change now will also save trillions in the future as well as giving energy independence (which you cant put a price on).
Both of these things also create huge investment and will create a large demand for jobs which is exactly what is needed in the current economic climate.

Also, I'm from Britain and the NHS is not causing any kinds of problems. The main factor that has caused budget deficits has been the economy through stimulus's and lower tax revenues.

If this is improved more people will actually like their education and see the real benefit of it and want to stay on. Also, the best way to combat future debt is going to be to sort out the systems which are going to cause it (healthcare, economy, education)

The kind of socialized health care being talked about in the US doesn't eliminate private insurance. What it does do is put pressure on them to reform.
I live in Canada, we have a public health care system. This doesn't mean that private health is forbidden. Businesses exist which provide privatized health care and generate a profit for themselves. Those with the money have the option to expediate their health care and make the experience more comfortable by taking the private route.
This means if you go with private health in Canada the extra cost is justified by the quality and speed of the care being provided. Rather than it just being justified by the standard cost of the particular care being provided having been set by a profit driven exclusively private market.
Those who cannot afford private care use public, those who can and want to use private do.
Pressure from public health should encourage private health to strive to be the better option, rather than the only one
Health care costs are almost like a buy in. Liberty Mutual demonstrated to me that one cannot depend on Workman's Comp in any way especially if you get hurt really bad. A couple of things Mr. Dean neglects to speak about when it comes to paying for public health care is the FACT foreign country's finance our national debt to the tune of over 800 BILLION dollars a year by buying US treasury bonds! If the US was not already out of money we would not need foreign financing! 2nd: Why is is when people talk about health care the some how think the medical industry knows anything about health in the 1st place! They know surgery and medication. They don't know health!

Why don't the American people themselves get serious about health care and stop treating their bodies like crap. Treat your body good it repays you with good health and far far far less trips to a Dr. Also, do you really want the state knowing your medical history much like they want to know everything else about you personally? Oh! keep buying junk food with those bank and credit cards and under a public health care system, you will get a trip from some state health care employee.
I don't think sick people care whether or not the state knows their medical history. I've been in several situations where I needed healthcare, but suffered through it because I didn't want to put my wife and I through financian hardship. And don't give me that "treat your body good" shit. I am in the military, 5'10", 145 pounds. I work out every day, and I still get sick.

Whether they socialise the healthcare system or not, there needs to be something done to make coverage affordable and available for EVERYBODY, not just the ones who are lucky enough to afford it. It's a right to live, not a priveledge. If my money pays for someone else, then great. The money they pay into a socialised system is doing the same for me. I am also one of those lucky few who can get quality health coverage because I was born into a middle class family.

The quality of PRIVATE healthcare in the UK is no worse than that of healthcare in the US. People who don't like the free care go private if they can afford it. The difference between the US and UK system seems to me to be that in the US, if you can't afford private healthcare, you risk going without treatment or getting in serious debt, whereas here if you can't afford it, you get free healthcare that's of a somewhat lower standard but that's sufficient for most people's needs.

Yes, but investing in health care, renewable energy and so on now is going to have tens of trillions in the future. Look at the estimated budget for healthcare in 2020, 2030 and so on, its huge! Also, tackling climate change now will also save trillions in the future as well as giving energy independence (which you cant put a price on).
Both of these things also create huge investment and will create a large demand for jobs which is exactly what is needed in the current economic climate.

If you dont sort out your healthcare it will bankrupt you because of excessive spiralling costs. The largest cause of individual bankruptcies is healthcare costs and the national government will soon be using the majority of its budget just for medicare and medicaid, unless the broken system is fixed. Also, I'm from Britain and the NHS is not causing any kinds of problems. The main factor that has caused budget deficits has been the economy through stimulus's and lower tax revenues.

If this is improved more people will actually like their education and see the real benefit of it and want to stay on. These facts have been proved in numerous research projects if you dont believe me.
Also, the best way to combat future debt is going to be to sort out the systems which are going to cause it (healthcare, economy, education)

The kind of socialized health care being talked about in the US doesn't eliminate private insurance. What it does do is put pressure on them to reform.
I live in Canada, we have a public health care system. This doesn't mean that private health is forbidden. Businesses exist which provide privatized health care and generate a profit for themselves. Those with the money have the option to expediate their health care and make the experience more comfortable by taking the private route.

Health care costs are almost like a buy in. Liberty Mutual demonstrated to me that one cannot depend on Workman's Comp in any way especially if you get hurt really bad. Private insurance cannot help me!! EVERYONE MUST BE COVERED. There must be a strong patient's bill of rights. Money CANNOT be the determinating factor regarding health care. A high quality standard package with strong rights for the patient, prescription drug coverage, etc. Howard Dean ought to be appointed National Health Care Czar. He has the guts and the ability.

The company I work for had 2 offices, one in NY and one in Toronto and last week I got an email saying they would close one of them... I'll let you guess which one they closed...the NY one of course because Canada is just as good as the US minus all the bullshit such as health care and immigration and wars amongs other things

A couple of things Mr. Dean neglects to speak about when it comes to paying for public health care is the FACT foreign country's finance our national debt to the tune of over 800 BILLION dollars a year by buying US treasury bonds! If the US was not already out of money we would not need foreign financing! 2nd: Why is is when people talk about health care the some how think the medical industry knows anything about health in the 1st place! They know surgery and medication. They don't know health!

Why don't the American people themselves get serious about health care and stop treating their bodies like crap. Treat your body good it repays you with good health and far far far less trips to a Dr. Also, do you really want the state knowing your medical history much like they want to know everything else about you personally? I don't think sick people care whether or not the state knows their medical history. I've been in several situations where I needed healthcare, but suffered through it because I didn't want to put my wife and I through financian hardship. And don't give me that "treat your body good" shit. I am in the military, 5'10", 145 pounds. I work out every day, and I still get sick.
