  • I was lucky enough to see the Darkness Tour come thru L.A. in '78. The Forum wasn't even sold out. Even from the cheap seats, and thru many shows since, that one sticks out in my mind. The band was so incredibly tight and for whatever reason, the mix was crystalline, especially Springsteen's guitar. Hopefully I'll be saying the same about the 2012 shows!

  • This IS the best version of Prove It All Night! I remember hearing this a long, long time ago, can't remember, but I can't thank you enough for posting this! Rock On, Brucester!

  • My first Springsteen show! The history of the World must be on YouTube...Thanks for posting. I think tickets were something like $15, to see him in a venue that seats approx. 4,000 people! Next time around, in Winter of '81, it was the Omni, which held well over 15,000...And we had to camp longer for those, then we did for the Fox seats. Great memories!

  • why dont they do this long intro anymore .. its the best

  • @jaymie60

I agree! Unfortunately, Bruce doesn't do much of the heavy lifting when it comes to guitar work in the live shows nowadays. Quick riffs and short bursts of brilliance these days, is about all we're treated to.

  • he was never better....incredible.

  • @moniqqaaa Reasonable question. Bruce sang 'Santa Claus' here because his 1975 live version was an FM-radio favorite at the time, plus he would not be back to Atlanta again before Christmas. Don't mind @LACADEMONIO just left Christmas Spirit In The Night in his other life.

  • Incredible guitar work. Still one of the best around.

  • Winterland and Largo versions are also pretty incredible.

  • E Street Band at their best!!!!!

  • Insane.

  • Are you sure that concert it was on september? Because it has no sense sing 'Santa Claus is Comin' To Town' in September..

  • @moniqqaaa don't be such an idiot dud. It's a freaking song not a walmart sales discount, he can sing it whenever the fuck he wants asshole

  • Back in 1978 I had a ridiculous curfew I thank my best friend Sharon who taught me when we see things like this first hand live, any punishment is worth it. I am now in my 50s the mother of those that break curfew and I sure hope they are risking my wrath indulging in events like this. The leash my parents put on me for breaking curfew IT WAS WORTH IT THEN and the revisiting this awesome footage worth it still. Long live the E Street Band.

  • BEST ENTERTAINER EVER AND I HAVE SEEN THEM ALL

  • this is the wildest version

but you have to hear the portland 12-19-'78 version..

  • I think that 78, @roxy was also good versions This would be the best

  • The people in this audience just had their faces melted. Holy crap! This guy and this band never cease to amaze me. I thought the '78 Passaic version was amazing, which it is, but this one is brought to this insane, crazed, apocalyptic, end of the world, last song I'll ever play level. Wow!

  • Have you guys seen the Sept 19th version of this?

    watch?v=C3vUKBOJ5sU

  • This was my first show. I'd read in Rolling Stone about "rock & roll future," and loved albums 3 and 4, but entered skeptical that anyone could be *that* good.

It was magical. I left thinking, *knowing* I'd just experience the greatest rock & roll that had ever been or ever would be.

I boarded This Train, knowing I'd be going for a long ride, although I had no idea the ride of my life, would last for the rest of my life.

Backstreets from this show? That put me in shock I'm still in.

  • amazing intro to a f$#@*& great song!!

  • That's a hell of a mean sound. Got to give credit to Roy Bittan, he's jammin on that piano the whole time too!

  • @sharpshooterrn yeah, the whole time. when i play the passaic version for people i tell him just to listen to the piano and theyll never think of the song in the same way.

  • god i wish i lived back then, this is simply amazing

  • @xeli8810 I've thought the same thing many times. I was alive at the time, but only 8 yo. I didn't know the power of Springsteen just yet. I mean, holy shit, this is insane.

  • THE BOSS...DUH!

  • They were all great on this tour; this certainly ranks among the top. By the way, a pre-FM Atlanta tape recently leaked -- so it sounds even BETTER than this, if you can believe it.

  • The Darkness shows were the epitome of his career. I challenge anyone to deliver a better guitar sound than the Darkness period.

  • Just listen to that guitar intro at 02.10...Springsteen just blows the rest away.

I would love to have seen a Darkness tour show

  • This really is the best version. Absolutely fantastic!

  • is this song available on cd

  • watching all this new pop and rap and thinking to myself ''why do i listen to The BOss when this is so cathy''. Proceds to go to youtube and find this song ''HOLY FUCK THAT MAN SINGS AWSOMENESS'' and thats why i listen to him:D ROCK ON BOSS and R I P clarence

  • I think I have to agree great live version.! Love live music .Have not heard this version. In purest form when firing on all cylinders. Bruce most always did, especially this version.

  • Has there ever been a better consecutive run of songs on a setlist than Promised Land - Prove It All Night - Racing In The Street - Thunder Road - Jungleland? Most artists would give anything to have songs of that standard to finish their show, in 78 Springsteen was using them to finish out the first set!

  • @ossiesixtysix Great point, and no, I don't think there ever has been. That's musical perfection right there.

  • @ossiesixtysix

Darkness tour is the best tour anyway, not only the setlist that you mention and this intro but so many intro's (and outro's) are beautifull. Prove it, Jungleland, Racing, Incident, Backstreets etc. Love the Racing outro and what about the Sad Eyes outro from Backstreets! Too bad I'm only 17 but if I could have one wish it would definitely be to go back in time and see a '78 gig. Thank God for the bootlegs and a lot of live video's here on YT!

  • @jowbowla You might be the coolest 17 year old on the planet then! I only found Bruce when I was 21, 9 years and 21 concerts ago...but I'm damn glad I did.

  • @kleman6

Hehe thank you! I'm also glad that my dad is a Bruce Springsteen fan and named me Bruce and took me to 8 concerts here in the Netherlands ^^. I can't wait for the next tour, will be awesome as always.

  • @ossiesixtysix I was at this show and Because the Night, Point Blank, Not Fade Away/She's the One, Backstreets (with Sad Eyes/Drive All Night interlude), Rosalita, Born to Run, Tenth Avenue, Detroit Medley, Raise Your Hand, and I think, Twist & Shout, was not a bad run of songs with which to close the show, either.

This was the first time I'd seen him (of, now, 59) and *no one* could equal his reviews - and I was right. He was better.

Backstreets was the best performacne art I've *ever* seen.

  • Saw a programme about Springsteen either late last year or early this year, didn't think I liked the guy but when they played this track I now can't believe I've wasted 30 odd years of not listening to his music or going to any of his concerts. If I could put this on replay 24 hours a day, 7 days a week I would, I absolutely adore the intro to this. I wish he would tour again.

  • @gailstclare oh he'll tour again...I don't think he'll ever stop performing.

  • That is one amazing set list. So many truly great songs.

  • Thank you for posting this.

  • amazing, every song should have intros this good

  • one m0:00re time

  • i didn't really like the part at 10:57

  • M I T I C O ! ! !

  • wish there was video but the sound quality is amazing for a late 70's show

    outstanding!!

  • 9:23

that is an excellent photo. where did you find it?

  • Just amazing.Bruce and the boys rule

  • une superbe version,long intro,long solo,que du bonheur,merçi.

  • Best Intro in a Rock song

  • Imagine sitting at home listening to this on the radio at the time, my god!

  • Peccato per le immagini. sarebbe stato perfetto con quelle del '78

  • You´re right; it´s very GOOD!

  • i like the largo version more, butt still its a great performance

  • This version is from down in Atlanta...Different and longer intro and @ the Capital he says New Jersey, Here he doesn't.

  • The version of this from The Capital Theater in jersey, from the same tour, has the same arrangement, but the sound is better. You can find it online, with the album listed as Passaic Night. Look for the torrent. It's from a radio broadcast, so you aren't stealing. Plus, there's a killer version of Kitty's Back on the same album.

  • perfect. this is how real music sounds

  • Great Version!

  • Heavy !!!!!!!!!!!?????????/

    This weighs a Tonne

  • Heavy!

  • great piano intro
