  • What happened to THIS Rush?

  • @2night2day2morrow Watch "Beyond the Lighted Stage". That should answer your question.

  • @mistarax Seen it before, however I'll watch it again.

  • @2night2day2morrow Watch "Beyond The Lighted Stage". That should answer your question.

  • I hate growing up in this bullshit music world. I love rush, probably more than most of the people that grew up with their music. I would give anything to go back and see them live in their Hemispheres, Farewell to Kings, and even the "Down the Tubes Tour." sigh....I hate being 16 and forced to suffer with Lady Gaga....

  • @YardApes00 You, young man, are a credit to your era. However..you dont love Rush more than me. Yes, I grew up WORSHIPING them. Love your post. one of my favs!

  • God DAMN you captured the time and mood, thank you...where did you get those pics?

  • saw this in ottawa in '77...i busted an eardrum because i walked past the p.a. too close..took 6 months for my hearing to come back..but it was an awesome show

  • I am 48 today. when i was 15 I was at the dec 7 show on this tour in milwaukee wi,

Holy shit-they preformed all of hemisphers live. Rush had a screen behind them. On this song the hemispheres of the brains appeared on the screen, Tree had explosians.

And guys when I was kid. Marijuana was mandatory no one cared. Oh Well....

  • This is more than gold! Well done all around, brudda! So great the way they pulled this off live as a TRIO. I wish people would stop referring to Rush as metal. That's a put-down. Rush is beyond that. It's like people think that because they had long hair, a few darker songs, and a rough edge to their sound at times, that makes them metal. Rush defies category but they are a power trio in every sense of the word!

  • archived ~

  • muy bueno... que tuanis!

  • I saw this tour when they played Toronto Maple Leaf Gardens Dec 31 new years eve concert.

  • YeeHaw

  • @venom6622 And I ment that

  • great sound and slide show!

  • Geddy could do this. He could do anything. Geddy = God. Plus this last tour I don't know what he's been doing but I noticed he's got higher again, I'd like to know how.

  • pictures wow

  • My Favorite Rush song.

  • I saw this tour at Wings Stadium in 78' We had run of front og=f the stage !

  • @jefftry Hard to believe it's been 33 years! My first concert :)

  • @Scarlet0Darkstar This was first concert Hemispheres Feb 2nd, 79 Columbus, Oh. 38 Special opened...wow i was 14, wow 33 years ago!

  • @halkito714 well met, friend. Yes I saw 38 special opened for I thought permanent waves... wasn't hemispheres in 78, Pat Ravers opening the wet coast? I was so young then too. I see we've aged the same, with good grace (under pressure)

  • @Scarlet0Darkstar /Travers/ /west coast/ lol!

  • @halkito714 Yes 38 special also toured with them on Pernament Waves here in Columbus too...

  • Always loved the disco hi hat action on this song.

  • haa love that bit at 6:20 where he nails and shouts "oh yeah"

  • Just listen to that Rickey!!!

  • RUSH ROCKS !! ALEX'S GUITAR PLAYING GOT ME PLAYING GUITAR 25 YEARS AGO. I'M SITTING HERE PLAYING ALONG WITH THEM AND JUST FREAKIN LOVING IT !! THANKS FOR POSTING THIS ! IT'S FANTASTIC !

  • @335pro Love this solo. Love how Alex slides the pick up and down the neck, sounds like a Whip !

  • Alex's tone was just killer back in these days.

  • Shhh, it is OK. Rush doesn't belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame.

They only belong in a group isolated from the dorks. Fuck the rest.

  • get in rush top shit this B-O-O-M

  • this is wonderful...ty for posting

  • A huge thank you !

  • THE RUSH CHORD!

  • @maskounes Alex owns it..

  • Probably the peak of Geddy Lees voice. In the 1980 live version of Hemispheres, Geddy used a voice synthesiser that causes an annoying echo delay. This version, Its all him. No artifical ingredients. Pure Rush at their best.

  • Oh my - every little inflection spot on perfect!!! Brilliant Yes Hemispheres complete in 2012!!!!!

  • @prsjoe I still have mine..

  • great shit!!

  • I have no words for this but thank u.

  • I still get shivers...BOMBASTIC!!!!.....I would kill to see RUSH play this song again...THANK YOU, RUSH!!!!

  • Hemispheres Complete on 2012 Tour!

  • @Tao2112 god i hope so

  • @Tao2112 that would be sweet, but wouldn't 2112 complete make more sense?

  • @kissed61 They won't do Hemisperes. Unfortunate, Vocals are to high unless they do a medley without vocals, like the R30 tour. Geddy even said they made a big mistake writing the material and then recording/writing the lyrics. It was just way to high, you can hear it even on this recording from that time period, no way he could do it now. They did all of 2112 back on 1995'sh. Dont know if they will do 2112, since they have Clockwork coming out.

  • @kennyplay

They did 2112 complete during the Test 4 Echoooooo tour.

  • @kennyplay Agree, can't see how geddy could possibly pull this off. As a fan though I have to say I'd LOVE IT if they did, suck vocals and all :) Hemispheres, a moment in time, a masterpiece.

  • @robtho1 Well, I take that back, they could do it if maybe some of Hemispheres they drop the tuning. Just like they did with Circumstances. check out .. rush circumstances music video then ... Rush - Circumstances 7-28-2007

  • @Tao2112 wont happen

  • @kennyplay

    Why Not?

  • @Tao2112 No fookin way! I am so fucking there!! WOO HOO!!!!

  • @Tao2112 I hope that's true. holy shit.

  • @Tao2112 No way. They would have to tune down a whole step for Ged's voice. And besides, WHY? They did it for a whole tour. Same with 2112. Although I did thoroughly enjoy that on both legs of the T4E tour, and the Drive Til You Die tour in Sept '77. Saw them on Time Machine twice, and Moving Pictures rocked both times. Frankly, I'd rather see Permanent Waves in it's entirety. But I'll be happy to see them do all of Clockwork Angels, and whatever else THEY want to play. Just sayin.

  • @Tao2112 No way. They would have to tune down a whole step for Ged's voice, like 2112 on T4E,and Circumstances on S&A. It would sound like crap. Besides, WHY? They've already done it on this tour. Why rehash that when they could do all of Clockwork Angels? 2112 was way cool both times I saw them on T4E AND in '77 on the Drive Til You Die Tour, but frankly, if they did decided to a full classic album, I rather see Permanent Waves in its entirety.Just sayin'.

  • @Tao2112 If that actually happens and I get to see them, it will be the greatest day of my life, hands down. This is by far my favorite song/album of all time.

  • That was Great! It sounds like this was recorded right off the sound board, probably without Rush knowing it.... Little tidbits like this are friggin Awsome!

  • Oh. A-my. God. So brilliant.

  • Hey JNeifion......just close your eyes and listen on the headphones like I did when I was 15....and now that I'm 44. It still works !!!! Just enjoy the music my friend !!!!

  • I remember going into Ottawa's Sam the record man store and a special edition red vinyl LP of Hemispheres was on sale .

  • My first concert was in 1992 in Miami. It was the Counterparts tour. i have seen them many times since

  • Why on earth do people do this, "create" a "video" to something that isn't theirs, that doesn't show anything new or archival. to hear a particular version/rendition of a certain song...it's SUCH a waste of time.

I want to see the live performance, like these things I've come across from '74 that are nearly pre-Neil, Those are most definetely Not a waste of time.

I'm a photographer and have photos of RUSH from these periods, that might make sense to thread together, but if you haven't created.

  • @JNeifion I agree in one respect, but before this post, and youtube in general, I never could've even HEARD HEMISPHERES live! Don't let this new technology spoil your experience of music, be thankful for what it's given us! TONY

  • am 56 and seen this tour at Pacific Colosseum Vancouver BC. with Max Webster, I believe. Seen Rush With Max Webster 2 maybe 3 times I think, was a long time ago. X-)

  • Is this the most amazing soundboard ever, or am I hearing the album? That's friggin Rush for ya! Awesome!!!!

  • I'm 44yrs old...haven't missed a rush tour since Signals .....This band is unique and what energy!!!! Hemispheres stands alone!!!!!!

  • When the wind stirs with greatness, people look chattering at the wind. What is definate except nothing? Delusion is a farm in the clouds, except where are the clouds; in the lightning of aspiration. Always nice to rock out with rush at the dawn of cygnus!

  • there's a video on here where alex has a broken finger (his ring i think) and it's from around this time, i wonder if that's why his playing is less than perfect near the beginning? i sound like a dick but i'm asking anyway

  • 6:20 "Oh yeah!" Love it!

  • They can never sound better than when they played on the origianal tour with the original equipment.

  • This is the best live version that I have heard from this era, must be right off the board. I just love the sound of this. TY for sharing.

  • I didn't get into Rush until the 90's. I'd consider performing a series of grisly immoral acts to be able to see them on this tour. This is my favourite album.

  • saw them in 1980 for 'permanent waves'...they played the ENTIRE 'cygnus x-1' sequence, parts I and II...30 minutes continuously...STUNNING. :)

  • @nouwenthen I saw that show in phila .It was the day John Bonham died .They did moby dick Neil did a long ass drum solo that was incredible and much louder than he normally does live .I still feel a little buzzed from that night.

  • @evenmix1 these kids today will never experience the concerts we got to see.

  • I'm now 41, and let me just say to anyone who saw Rush during this period: you are the object of my eternal envy.

  • This sounds like it was recorded straight off the board. Love this song.

  • "100 yr pre anniversary tour of 2112"?? Love it!!! They have to go with something like that.

  • I photographed Rush in 75 and 77. TO see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • Rush. Please make the 2012 tour the (100 year pre anniversary tour of 2112 and do the "All the Worlds a Stage tour just like the origional, light show and all. For all the younger Rush fans that never got to experience it.

Oh no "olay" during 2112 thats annoying to us true old timer fans

  • Ask me my favorite and I will tell you the first concert because it was just the first and special. It was just like the "All the worlds a stage album" and the light show blew me away. "OH won't you PLEASE WELCOME ON RUSH!!!!!!!">Bastille day rocking hard!!

  • Saw the 2112 tour senior year February 77, saw the Farewell to Kings tour in January 78 and the Hemispheres tour in December 78. I've seen them 5 times in all. Although I love all concerts and the songs mentioned especiallly Xanadu/Farewell to Kings has been burned out on my cassette player {yea that's right Cassette} and the Cygnus/Hemisperes songs

  • @TonySkyRush What I what do to see them them in the '70s. The Time Machine tour was amazing, but if I could see them in their prime, I could die happy.

  • @Ryu12543 They are in their prime now as far as how they play their instruments. Their song writing was better then.

  • 70's Rush is the best Rush.

  • i was there may the 7th 1979 at the hammersmith odean !!! best gig of my life !!! i was 14 years years old !!! still love em !!!!!!!

  • @papalazerus22 Is that the live recorded concert that is on the blue disc of Different Stages?

  • If there is one band my wife truly doesn't understand, it's Rush and you know what, that is just fine with me.

  • @grinderman77 lol...I remember a lot of other girls not liking Rush either. There were actual criteria for my dating guys and this was one of them. If the guy only listened to music because of girls and played it to get them, I knew he was a fool. I like a great many other bands, but liking Rush? That was the one that separated the wheat from the chaff. Peace!

  • yeah, i gotta agree with a few of these comments about rush in 1979. my first show was 1979 allentown, pa and it remains one of my favorite by any band. they played all those big fat jams, staring out with 2112, by-tor and the snowdog, xanadu etc. i remember they played everything from hemispheres except 'circumstances', and tossed in a couple of new songs from their upcoming album (spirit of radio and freewill) as well. truly memorable!

  • The Hemisphere's tour was the greatest, it had all the great long songs: Hemispheres, 2112, Xanadu and Cygnus X-1

  • R U S H F O R L I F E!

    RUSH > > > > other bands.

started as kids and they are still going strong today, and probably wont stop till one leaves this world.

  • There would not be meshugguh without RUSH!

    Therefore djent would not exist!

  • FUCKING THEY PLAYED THIS SONG LIVE????

    omg

    my life is now complete

  • The best band ever! Hemispheres was and still is a masterpiece!

  • progressive rock magnificence..........

  • Pure Brillance, just like all there songs!

    RUSH 4 EVER! :D

  • anthing just to see them perform this live again

  • Yes .... It's good!

  • THANK YOU ,THAnK you soooooo ,sooooo much ,this just made my night.........brian Young drummer who gew up on peart. Not on him like a two headed baby, but Niel,Alex, and GEDDY, they all rule .....I love Geddys voice here!!!! the Rick and these odd changes in to other parts.

  • Comment removed

  • My first show!

  • Geddy looks like such a yenta here. They all look feminine, but the music is powerful, confident and masculine. Too bad they didn't have better costume designers back then though. And I'm not dissing their long hair, cos I got long hair. It's the Japanese robes.

  • tiki bar hawaiian shirts nail it

    sounds on sounds

  • Break out the kimonos one more time!

  • I had the 8 track tape in 1978 and wore it out.

  • This song inspired a phew years ago very much into the science and beliefs of the two hemispheres. explore the gods apollon and dionysus, and watch deep inner game by david deangelo.you and the world will thank you!

  • Saw this tour in Cleveland @ Richfield Colliseum in 1978. Amazing show...

  • such a good song. theyre all such great musicians, its really.. inspiring in a way to create such amazing music with only three guys. They will always be an influence on me(Geddy the most, me being a bass player) .

  • The Cygnus X-1 Trilogy is the catalyst that opened my eyes to the possibilities of life and the beginning of my ability to "think outside the box" I am often praised by my superiors for my quick thinking and coming up with unthought of ideas. I owe this all to Rush and esp Neil Peart , who opened my young eyes to the wonders of this world.

  • Epicness

  • This is an epic piece of music.

  • I remember me and my brother would wait until my parents went to sleep and seek into the family-room and watch Rush on the Don Kirshner Show!! Good Times!!!!

  • Crazy good

  • Amazing, one of Pert's philosophical masterpieces!

    Absolutely awe-inspiring!

Being only aged 23 years, I'm always discovering more fascinating aspects of this Canadian trio and their deep intellectualism

  • i love the 80s Rush.and all the rest.

  • AWESOME!! ACTUAL LIVE AUDIO OF THIS!! :DDD

  • So great to come here and hear such a great song, and see the words from so many devoted fans like me. :)

  • Rush have been such an inspiration to me. I saw them in 78 at Hammersmith's Odeon as it then was. I was 15 and got blown away. Now 46 and the magic has not left me. I love the way they got back into Power Trio mode (thanks Rupert Hine). When I get down I just put this stuff on - it's the will to live! Massive! I think they may be confused why they are so big. Doesn't matter. Love the shows these days - humour has played a big part in making it a fantastic experience. Thanks Rush!

  • Wow, thank you so much for posting this! What a gem to hear such a great bootleg copy of Rush at their prime live, playing the most technically demanding material they've ever written.

  • @H3llRazing I couldn't have said it better myself, I Love this album! In my mind it just edges out "2112".

  • Rush changed it all for me, as a kid in the late '70s I heard Working Man on a local rock station and was hooked forever after! My first bass playing experience was a mix of classic Rush and Yes, good thing I'd already been playing guitar for a few years before that......

  • Classic Lifeson tone. And do I detect some serious >swing< in Neil Peart's playing? Such attention to detail... Almost verbatim to the album version

  • Comment removed

  • My favorite was The Necromancer, but I think this is now. I've literally listened to this song like 20 times this week.

  • MY FAVORITE ALBUM EVER OVERPASSING EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!y!!!!!!!!yes!!

  • omg, live hemispheres... hafta add/like ;0

  • i'm looking for some real video of this song live from the hemispheres tour... but haven't luck =(

  • I had it on red vinyl as well. This album brings back so many memories for me as a kid. I think of winter when I hear this.

  • I had it on red vinyl as well. This album brings back so many meories for me as a kid. I think of winter when I hear this.

  • It's quite a shame that the age of Rush playing these epics is over. I will never see Rush play my favorite songs with the same intensity, ever.

Well, i guess that's what time does...

  • @litterboxplayhouse not true man, i never saw rush when I was young, and I kinda fell out of listneing to them later as teen. finally got back into them in my late 30s, went to the Time Machine tour, and they played La Villa AND Camera Eye. And I saw them 2 years ago and they did Natural Science. All epics, all amazing. Nearly as good as Hemispheres side 1 (their absolute best work ever), but I got to hear them!

I think my chances of seeing them do Fountain Of Lamneth live is pretty slim tho...

  • @sizone That's cool. Yeah i saw them in san antonio and yes they did play la villa stragiato (stellar as usual), and Camera Eye, but I mean like Cygnus (both), and the entire 2112 suite. I know it's a matter of time consumtion when it comes to shows , but i'm pretty sure Geddy can't sing Presentation with the same vocal intensity anymore...

All things aside, Rush is Rush, and I'm grateful to have seen them

  • @litterboxplayhouse ged cannot hit the notes on the old stuff anymore...thats why working man has a new opening...as for 2112?...no chance at presentation, oracle, soliloquy...but we have the orginals and their are a few live versions from the 70s to remind us of what he used to sound like...

  • @sizone same for me..i was a casual rush fan in the 80s in high school...got away from them and have gone nuts in the last 10 months... i have learned more about the band and their music now than i ever did and am a happier man for it...i truly have not listened to any other band since july at jones beach..im obsessed...:) but in a good way...

  • Drum fill at 7:23 puts me on my ass. It might not be the hardest thing technically, but man. Sounds great.

  • @novan08 LOL, I feel the exact same way. That's my favorite Rush drum fill, it sounds astonishing. I think Hemispheres was Neil's greatest drumming period. My second favorite drum fill is the one near the end of The Trees.

  • @Ryu12543 Ah yes, great fill! :)

  • Saw them in Portland Oregon on the Farewell to Kings tour in sept. 77. saw the hemispheres tour in Portland as well. It was the first night of the US tour ( with the Pat Travers band). saw the same show two nights later in Spokane Washington and was able to meet them after the show. My wife made a tropical flower arrangement for them on the Power Windows tour and Peart sent a postcard thanking us. Beyond awesome. Have seen every tour since then except Signals. Some twice. Sound track of my life!

  • I also have a postcard from Neil after sending him a vintage autograph book with Big Band musicians from the 30's...I treasure it, hand written & signed...love these 2 video's thanks

  • I've always concidered this as Rush's masterpiece.. I loved there previous stuff anyway, but when this came out, I was completely blown away. For just 3 guys, so much sound. and theme. This album was no picnic for them to make. Let alone to perform live.

  • It won't let me post a link. Google Rush Concert Date History. It's number 4. Good info. with set lists, etc. Enjoy!!!

  • Years ago I found a web page that had ever Rush Concert date & where they played since they started Touring in the U.S.

  • Check out Neal rockin' the 'Stache of Epicness. He should grow it back.

  • @RCAvhstape loloololololololololololoo......'Stache of Epicness' i'll remember that one...lolololo

  • @RCAvhstape loloololololololololololoo......'Stache of Epicness' i'll remember that one...lolololo!! That it certainly is!! Too funny.

  • So fucki......(head explodes).

  • WOO HOO!!!!

  • @trenken - I have to disagree with you, this song has some insane bass lines, more than almost any rush song... Try singing and playing these bass lines (and keyboards) live, let's see how you sound...

  • This is one of favorite Rush albums, it was them at their most progressive and conceptual. Really pushed that boundary. But the musicianship is what really did it for me. And of course the lyrical content, Rush does not insult the intelligence of their audience.

  • @717mienbao most lyrically and musically talented intelligent band of all time...no exceptions...there are those who get (us) and those who dont (the rest of the world)..i like us

  • Geddy is really struggling with the vocals here. Ive heard this a lot in bootlegs. Even with his incredible vocal ability at that time when he was young, he really did struggle to reproduce it live vocally. He wrote his parts at the edge of what he could possibly do, but when he had to do it live every night he couldnt pull it off consistently.

He made the right mode lower it on Permanent Waves.

  • @trenken They were running late having such difficulty with the recording at Rockfield and only came to do the vocals at the mix stage when Geddy realised that the keys were very difficult for him to sing in, he had not sung any of the parts prior to this, hence why it is hard for him live, nothing to do with his playing.

  • Awesome pics! Most of them from that tour also. Great job. This was the first tour I saw them and most of those pics look like exactly from where I was sitting at Long Beach arena! Thank you so much.

RUSH and Pat Travers November 1978

  • This is so awesome, it makes other awesome things seem only somewhat spectacular by comparison.

  • @riebmollie Now I'll have to dig out my ticket stubs... I first saw them at the Aragon Ballroom in 1976 w/Max Webster. That was considered to be the, "A Farewell to Kings Tour." Then next was at the Amphitheratre in 1977 & 1978. I'll have to check the stubs... I saw them with April Wine 1 of the shows who "Rocks." That was when bands played & played. Kind of like how Rush still plays today!!!

  • Outstanding! My first (of 20+) Rush shows was in Seattle, November 1978 on this tour. I remember being in complete awe throughout that entire show... as I was for the shows I saw this past summer in Denver!!

  • my fav rush song

  • Blows my mind. Every time. How the hell do you possible collaborate a song this good? It's f(*&n science.

  • @Caymon8 3 dudes around the age of 25 when this was made. Infreakin'credible!!! It can't be done, but yet it was!!! :)

  • Blows my mind. Every time.

  • Yep, Dec. 9th. 1978 was one of the nights. I got grounded... LOL. It was shortly after the riots at Humboldt Park & that's the only way that the cop would let me turn towards. I got all sorts of lost. I had 9th. row & the first 2 seats. It was awesome.

  • I saw this show in Ft. Worth Tx...Ahh, we were all so much younger then, but I'll never forget it...and the other 5 shows, I saw back then. I was such a huge Rush fan...still am, actually.

  • I walk to work everyday and I listen to this album at least once a week. A brilliant masterpiece, and as a guitar player, I find different ways to play it all the time.

  • Best Rush song ever.

  • possibly the greatest and most epic song ever composed....stairway to heaven???? gimme an overrated break...."but the winter fell upon them and it caught them unprepared...bringing wolves and cold starvation...and the hearts of
