With apologies to Grace Slick (most Airplane music isn't that 'heavy') and Janis Joplin (blues), I'd have to argue the Mariska was one if not the first female 'hard rock' singers.
i was drinking absynthe in the same bar that samuel clemens did in new orleans when a goddess that looked just like mariska walked in and took the air out of the place. believe me, bananarama's version did not come to mind...
ohh yeah this i s a rare version but I knew mariska is of hungarian father violinist n´ her mother is german born but daughter of Russian and French n´mariska is Netherlands,
this is the original from 1969. when it became a hit in europe, they tried to stereo the tapes and left some seconds out of the fade-out part. on cd you can only find this longer version on the At Home album
I fell in love with this song the day I heard it for the first time!! it was extremely popular in India and ceylon in the 1970's; I could never get that rhythm guitar out of my head since!! may her soul rest in peace! what a great voice! our thanks to Mariska and the shocking blue for their wonderful gift!!
I did some investigating on some Published reports thts Mariska wore a wig !! And I found a quote from Mariska saying " How hard is it to grow your own hair" ! She was one of a kind ! A great entertainer! Rest In peace Mariska!!
yes, correct, she wore a wig until 1974, because she did not like her own curly hair. just in 1993 she started to wear a wig again, until she died in 2006.

I have eight Shocking Blue albums, and there's not a bad track in the whole bunch! Mariska Veres is greatly missed.

Unfortunally for Vinnie Vincent (Kiss), once that he is a man, he looks like Mariska.
But she was really beautiful.

Half way through, Mariska goes for a jog in a cave, and rides a horse.
See, if I made the vid, there'd be pictures of planet Venus and little green aliens. I guess I don't think outside the box.

Interesting for the fact that I was only familiar with the studio-bound video of this song. Nice find.

Opening guitar riff sounds like the Who's (Pete Townsend's) Pinball Wizard.

You're right! The intro of this song is similar to Pinball Wizard of the WHO!

A timeless classic: Mariska as a Dutch Tura Satana and the suspended 4th chord courtesy of Pete Townshend's "Pinball Wizard" ... methinks.

I have to think that she was Hungarian: was she really?
babajaga39 2 years ago
she was from holland, but her farther was born in Hungaria. so 50% of mariska is hungarian. her mother was from german/russia.
