While in Japan I liked the ramen but truthfully I was a fan of the Kitsune Soba in a little shipping place near Kiyomizu Dera. It was bloody delicious.
@mustangrebus I agree its been a while myself and the tonkatsu...well I still think about it. Good ramen has to have shiro soba noodles and in my case topped with gyoza or on the side with that vinegar dipping sauce. Oh god the withdrawl symptoms are coming back I have to phone my therapist.

Please! at least my fellow japanese! stop it! more you brag, more miserable your country will look.
when i visit japan i lived off of Ramen. It really was my main food source. i think a better analogy would be calling McDonalds 1$ hamburger a hamburger made from prime beef cooked on a charcoal grill with cheez, lettus, tomatos and all the works.
rctsos: If so, please cite your source. Until then, I do believe that noodles originated to China.
When you talk about the middle Asian area, do you mean the Middle East/Central Asia? Around which modern-day country do you say the noodles came from? I'm interested to know.
Oh, and chopsticks, too, but all those East Asian countries in China's cultural sphere or whatever, being influenced by China back then, use chopsticks regularly today. And there are slight differences in the chopstick's width and shape and such. Interesting, eh?
narutowatcher54 - True, I can't image that that would be healthy. Personally, I also dislike sushi, because I don't favor fish or most seafood (except for [flavored] seaweed). But I absolutely love ramen . . . mhm.
There are several things from Japan that originated from China, such as the kimono and their writing system (hiragana, katakana, and kanji). But Japan altered the things to make it Japanese, and most of the time, it's more used in Japan than China. The kimono comes from the hanfu, but people recognize China's traditional costume to be the qipao, not the hanfu, although i don't agree. Hiragana and katakana are both changed enough from the original Chinese characters. Yeah . . .
You've prolly noticed being there so long, but the Japanese will make a magazine about anything and everything. If you can think of it, it has a magazine.
The Itis- The general feeling of lethargy and well-being experienced after eating a satisfying meal. In areas of Europe where my family is from and I've also lived we party every night till after midnight ... ever heard of Spain? Greece? (ever lived there???) Friend you don't plan to party three months later outside of Japan you poor thing ...LOL
Ball parties aint so common anymore~ Plus it's a school event till midnight. I would love to go out to pubs and drink all out, but I turn 18 in 2 weeks... so I can't do so yet T.T
Plus I'm single, so I can enjoy life a lil more just by hanging out with girls and boys in the city :3
As a frequent flyer to Japan (my wife is Japanese) Ramen is good, I have a friend who loves it, for me yeeeaahh. If you're in Vancouver, Canada..we have Ramen shops because of the huge Japanese poulation here..in fact..6 or seven places, authentic Ramen within blocks from my apartment. I'm pretty lucky I guess. Hey Cooney I'll be in Yokohama for the first 3 weeks in February..I like what you're doing here..you're sort of giving me an idea with the Vlog. JAPAN RULES
yes, you can find ramen shop in the UK. There is one ramen shop called wakamama in London. They might have some other chain stores. Go look up on the internet.
Your beer cravings are natural, Europe, and Britain is well known for its real alcohol. ;P
Mine is Yakisoba noodles. Yeah, I know you said they were bad but different strokes for different folks, I crave a real plate of Yakisoba noodles. Miso soup as well.
How can "I" subscribe to the Ramen magazine? I do not understand your overzealous criticism of it in your comedy routine. I would eat the actual magazine.
I'd personally disagree about Ramen being the dish that defines Japan. While most people assume wrongly that it is sushi, there is a good arguement for Gyudon being the national dish.
The largest fast food chains in Japan are all Gyudon restaurants -Yoshinoya, Matsuya, Sukiya etc... they are everywhere.
Yeah, tekhda is right. As Japan is composed of many small islands, most of its food comes from the ocean, where all the nutrients are. You could eat a seaweed salad instead of a vitamin. Sashimi is full of Amino fatty Acids that stabilize your mood, help your memory, and just benefit your brain in so many different ways it would make your head spin. Good video Cooney, Favved and Subbed ! ^_^
Hey, awesome video. The whole ramen thing inspired me (more like it made me hungry), so I did open two packs of noodles, because I didn't have normal spaghetti (I know that ramen noodles are very different, but I'm a gaijin who lives in the U.S, so..). I threw the chicken sauce that was inside, and put some Magi beef broth and cut one big mushroom.. threw all of it in the boiling noodles and.. what do you know.. it was so delicious. ;)
hey i have a question which you may not be able to answer but it is if the japanese use peanut products? cause im allergic to peanut and in spring break im going over there and i don't want to die over there or visit a hospital so i just wanted to know if at least ramen doesn't have peanut shit.... anyone?... thank you! ^^
Most of the cases, peanuts are not used in any Japanese dishes. There might be some in toppings or dressing for some salads. Anyway I seggest you to ask when ordering at the restaurans. There are peanut allergic people also in japan. They'll unserstand. If you don't speak Japanese, simly point yourself and say "Watashi wa peanuts alleru-gi (I am allergic to peanut )". Sometimes Ramen chefs are so creative that they put any unusual ingredients to enrich their soup.
mmmmm...ramen. I have to drive like half an hour to find a good ramen place...well...not even a ramen place...technically it's a sushi place but I think that's just cause they wouldn't get as much business as a ramen shop.
I hope REAL ramen gets popular enough to have as many shops as sushi...I would be oh so happy...
I used to love to eat at Mister Ramen every day after classes right outside of Takahadofudo Station! We had to order in person-no tickets. Sweet memories, thank you!
wow dude you have been all around the world sucks man i hate planes for a reason but fly around 40 times well keep vids coming planning to go to japan next year peace bro.....
Is there any ramen made without meat? Or is the base for basicly all ramen made with beef/pork. Also do you know if you asked would the ramen place make it without the pork base or would that just be to much to ask.
I have always wanted to try real ramen!

Is there any ramen made without meat? Or is the base for basicly all ramen made with beef/pork. Also do you know if you asked would the ramen place make it without the pork base or would that just be to much to ask.

Its hard to find, but yes there are vegetarian ramen shops. But the stock is usually made from animals so its very rare.
