  • from a european and german perspective i am very worried about this video, although i understand there are a lot of patriotic feelings attached to it. duty is good, but questioning it is even more important. citizens are not there to follow, they are there to control and question, for debate and for pluralism, not for the sole honor and duty. different then what he said, history teaches that one has to question military action and not to glorify it.

  • @AdrianGudra

Well, go ahead and worry. Worry about your country and your military. Our country and miltary did not murder six million civilians.

  • @dlrunner not yet.

  • Very moving indeed! The narration at the beginning was very insightful.

  • I came to America for school two years ago. I am Tongan by nationality but sometimes I wished I was serving in the American forces. I would do it in a heartbeat!!! America is a great nation and I am grateful for the opportunity to be here. This piece of music makes me wanna serve more. I'd be in the airforce if I could!!!

  • @pilotguy11 Thank you for the love you share for this country. It is such a beautiful thing to hear. So many out there despise the USA... I too love her and know that she can be better and rise above all the things that are bringing her down. I know this country is meant for good.. thanks for your love and patriotism toward America :)

  • Most of George Washington's Army Officers were Scotch/Irish decent!!! fighting the English...............and Royalty!!!

  • As a Scotchman, I love this song, pity the choir were not more involved, but the yanks are good at this!

  • Sorry, that is the Tabernacle, not the assembly hall or Conference Center. You can tell by the organ.

  • @FireYourJOB -- Amen to that! He was my choice for President in 2008. I have great respect for him and his intergrity. BTW - I am not Morman, his religion is his business and is not a concern to me.

  • This is a good video, it would be a great video if they didnt have some clown talking on it for the first couple of minutes

  • @hyperiontheevil hes not a clown hes always doing the spoken word

  • @hyperiontheevil - what are you talking about.... his voice is awesome. he is always doing the introductions for general conference and other church stuff.....

  • It is wrong to say that Highland cathedral was a traditional melody. It was composed in 1982. But nevertheless a nice arrangement.

  • I served in both the navy and the army but my neighbor thinks that owning a Prius is more patriotic. What do you think, should we change the code to duty, honor and Toyota?

  • That gave me chills. Doesn't happen very often.

  • As a Dutcnman, watching this vid, I must admit this is thrilling me!!

Nonour goes to all who do their duty for theit nation.

  • The original writer, producer, and announcer of the spoken portion of the broadcast was Richard L. Evans, who continued in that capacity until his death in 1971. J. Spencer Kinard took over as announcer in 1972 until he stepped down in 1990. Lloyd D. Newell has been the announcer since then.

  • Beautiful.

  • Does anyone know the name of the man who 30 or more years ago was the voice for the choir. This chap is very good ,but I miss the one from my youth

  • This is absolutely beautiful. Highland Cathedral is one of my favorite songs and this is one of the most powerful and moving performances I have ever seen. The choir did an outstanding job as well. It truly does sound like something straight from heaven. I showed this to my grandfather(he is all Scottish) and this brought tears to his eyes. God bless the U.S military and its troops, bagpipers, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

  • Eine Armee, die ihre Ehre im Laufe der Jahre verspielt hat

  • Wow! The best.

  • even the yankee love the highland cathedral lol

  • The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, playing Highland Cathedral, is famous and is the most perfect sounding choir and orchestra on the World! It sounds so beautifull it could come straight from Heaven! Together with the District Pipe-Band it is so Heavenly played, it would couse tears to wave out of the world's eyes! Thank you for adding this Clip to the YouTube database!

  • Highland Cathedral was beautifully played. WelldoneWasatch and District Pipe Band

  • An overdue tribute, beautifully done by the best!

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, lets see the Salt Lake Scots do that. Very nicely done.

  • Great, wirklich suppi, geiles Lied

  • Probably the best ive heard this song played. They should have used the pipe organ as well, it sounds even MORE (hard to beleive) magnificent with pipe organ to go along with it!

  • what pipeband is this?

  • Wasatch & District Pipe Band, from Bountiful, Utah

  • Please!!! Do you not know that this song was composed by two young Germans a couple of years back and then played all over the world and then taken over by the Scots!!!

    Its a classic!!!!

  • it was written about the scots, thats why! lol

  • @lebuier taken over is prob the wrong word lol

  • @lebuier taken over is prob the wrong word lol

  • @lebuier haha good stuff. same to you enjoy the holiday.

  • If you've ever heard bagpipes in real life, you know how loud they can be. Combining that with the fact that there were so many of them and the terrific accoustics in the Mormon Tabernacle, that had to be really really loud!

  • I would have loved to have been in the Tabernacle when they did this.

I love the sound of bagpipes, especially hearing them in person, you really feel the sound through your body.

  • @Navian1 that makes two of us this would have been so awsome to witness live especilly hearing those bagpipes and actully this is not the Tabernacle this is the concert hall on the same grounds there in Salt Lake City the accoustics in that place are remarkable

  • I'm impressed by the band's ability to keep time when they're all spread out throughout and in front of the choir. Well done.

  • epic lols.

    i pwn those drummers.

    nice music though.

  • i love that because I am a mormon

  • I was there for this! It was AMAZING!

  • Wow...that music was friggin awesome. Thank you, loved it :D

  • so sad but yet so amazing

  • My sister is in there!!! She's a drummer with a pretty awesome blue drum!!!

  • lol they all have blue drums

  • yeah and they are all awesome

  • speech a little sickly but superb music

  • Most beautiful song I've heard in a long time. Bravo to the composer, conductor, choir, orchestra and pipes.

  • Highland Cathedral: How funny to find that the best YouTube version of a song that was composed by a German and written as a tribute to Scotland is buried in a tribute to the United States military - but there you have it. This version is awesome!
