@3245james@3245james There is some truth in saying you can hit it however you want. However there are certainly 'ways' of hitting to get certain sounds and also movements which make sense depending on what else you are doing. On top of that these lessons work up to songs which I play using these techniques in the places demonstrated, it is possible to play the bass drum hit in many places but in the context of a song it won't 'flow' in some of them.
Sort of unnecessary explanation, all you had to say was slap the thing anywhere for different sounds, but thats me I dont know... Its just seeing so much effort put into something really not complex would set a learner back & destroy confidence, cause really theres no wrong way of doing it.
Hi I'm looking at upgrading to a new acoustic and I'm very interested in learning this style of guitar properly! can anyone recommend a good make/model to look for?
Thank You SO Much, Dale! So many videos are clogged or overly self promotive. it is a real find that you take us through so many techniques. and these tutorials have sparked my curiousity about your personal music. Thanks for sharing insights! ! !
Yes- you are such a find! I've been searching for lessons on percussive guitar techniques, and by far this is the most clear, easy to understand, and extremely helpful series of tutorials on youtube. Thank you again Dale :D btw, your music is incredible and so original! amazing stuff, and I'm passing them on to friends! peace

Wow, That was awesome...by the way Still Training here and nice tutorials. I have been playing guitar for Chord strumming since when i was 13 yrs. old until now (I'm turning 15yrs. old) and wrote my own songs and got tired of it and wanted to try something new....Thanks for Everything....
Oh And You look like the guy from Kick-Ass the guy in a green suit..
As a music teacher (among many other things) I appreciate the way you explain things; I've been looking to get into this type of style of playing for a while now; expand my musical vocabulary so to speak. I'll be checking your vid's regularly I think.
Also, if you haven't already, you should make a quick vid talking about some of the various methods you use to write pieces in this style.
Catchya later
ps: who/what artist influenced you most to get into this style of playing?
Some of the clearest, easiest to understand lessons on percussive acoustic on the internet. Hats off Sir! Thanks for the useful lessons I'm sure they're going to help me get my head around learning.
This is awesome!! Great lesson. I've got a Simon & Patrick SP6 with B-Band, Do you suggest I add further pickups? I really want a nice percussive sound! Thanks
I have a Tanglewood TW155ST with a B-Band in it. It does me fine for percussion right now. I think it's more about hand technique than the pickup, plus I don't wanna go fiddling with pickups anytime soon lol
The harmonic at the 19th fret is slapped so your right hand 1st finger strikes the string over the metal of the fret. This creates the Harmonic node and also sets the string ringing - same as the slapped harmonic at the 12th, just at 19.
@DaleCampbellAcoustic hi there. i tried doing this but flicking my fingers is the hard part cos i'm left handed but i play right handed guitar. any advice?
at 8:17 you talk about the harmonic at the 19th fret. how is it that you do that? is it more or less your finger just striking the string at the 19th? or did i totally miss that part. id really like to know. thank you
Cool... I've been kinda messing with this type of playing for years' ever since I saw Michael Hedges back in the early 90s' but I've been mostly an electric player in the Hendrix/Holdsworth mode with alotta 2 handed Stanley Jordan kinda stuff thrown in. I also sing and play all kinds of african drums and I recently bought an Alvarez AJ-60 jumbo after I re-discovered Dylan' so I'm trying to find away to blend it all together. Dale' you're video's help offer some insight in that direction. Thanks.
Your amazing dude, how long have you been playing like this? Was also wondering if you could put up a lesson on how to play the Billie Jean arrangement you did?
Thanks. Very astute! Its a habit from my 'real' lessons saying next week, meant to say next time...... Should be soon though I have been working on my Album over the Summer and that is being mastered on Friday so after that I'll be working on some more videos.
Thanks so much for these videos! I don't know how I found them but they are awesome! This is exactly what I needed.. something to teach me in this style. I loved Thomas Leeb's style/Eric Roche's.. so I'm so glad for these videos! Thanks! When does the next one come?
lol :) the first one was like a pilot episode to see if the concept worked and people liked it before I went the whole hog and rig up lights and backdrop and made it look all 'mac advert'

Mark Kroos has a song called, "Capo 4"
And he's not happy with it either.
I think all great musicians have 1 or 2 of those.
