Hey Eugene, it was interesting at the airport and customs to say the least, but I did a lot of research before I attempted this. There were a few things that couldn't fly - the rear shock due to gas filled, and the rubber tires - too flammable, and the engine was iffy so I shipped it cargo to avoid snags. Everything else fit into the bags and I balanced the packing to keep everything under the standard baggage weights and it all worked out.
awesome, I shot a similar stillframe type movie when I disassembled my bike to find a strange noise coming from the engine... (Search on youtube: VEQwPk59UaQ)
To me the bike is prettiest when I have the tank, subframe and rear plastics off...weird!
Also, the airline had no issues with 100kgs of bike parts?!
I rebuilt a bike in my appartment bedroom(workshop) and my g-friend came over and was like what the hell?I got her to help me sneek the bike down the stairs from the 4th floor at 2am in the morning so no one freaked out hahhaa
Thats a good idea with the projector, wish i would have done something like that or at least taken more pictures. I stripped my WR to have the frame and swingarm powdercoated black. Im still working on putting it back together mostly just cuz im always waiting on parts. Im doint it in my basement and i just realised the other day i have no idea how im going to get it out.
I love it.. from parts to bike in just under 6 hours! No better way to know the way your bike works than to take all the pieces and assemble them! The big question is,, WHY did you ship it in that manner? So it would fit in a small airplane to reach your place?
OH MY GOD that was amazing !!! i wish i had you experience and knowledge of bikes :) look @ 4.22 you look like a man possessed working on that back wheel !! great job...
This is amazing. You did a humongous amount of work on this video.and the editing was seamless. The guitar music was perfect and keeping the pace as you were scurrying around putting you motor bike together. This is astonishing!
Step by step pics of the tear-down are probably THE most helpful thing when trying to finish up a project, that was an awesome idea to use a projector though. I just use my laptop because I'll usually tear a bike down, and it'll be a month before I have time to but it back together, ha!
Hi mate, i remember seeing your thread on tt months ago about the problems of shipping the bike. Its great to see you've finally got it up and running, did you save the money by posting it in small packages? Im about to buy my wr450 now at the start of july, can't wait!!! hope she's running sweet as a nut with you!!! :-)
I'm wondering why you totally disassembled it instead of leaving some of it still assembled such as the handlebars/controls? Good learning experience, you know the bike when you get through which can really help on the road if something fails! I'm speaking from experience here! Ha!
LOL, the clock isn't set to actual time, but was set to monitor re-struction. The video was filmed over 4 evenings. I shot one 90 minute tape every evening after work. I started the clock at 12, and then popped the battery out each evening when the tape ran out. Next evening I'd pop the battery back in and start a new tape, so the clock tracked actual construction time. I wore the same clothes and didn't disturb things between shooting, so the clip would have consistency.
@40BelowBiker dude good job on the build. Reminds me of a story I read in DR were they wanted a new CR250 bad enough to pull one off the line in Japan, dismantle it, and pack it in suitcase as checked baggage for the flight home. However I would have never admitted that this was over the course of 4 nights.
dude i have a 99 wr400, too. i love it. tell me how the 450 is, we're thinking of buying 1. either that or the wr250r, cince its street legal in california. nice vid ;)
ya i know what you mean by the weight, we went to the dealer and they had a couple of em over there. you could almost pick it up with one hand. i love my wr400, though. it's also nice because it has the baja kit, so it's street legal in california. its just too much on gas to trailer em anywhere anymore.
Nice !!! Just gave my son the Honda and I bought myself a WR450f cant wait to ride !!!

very nice.
how long did it take you to compete the entire assembly?
zx92027xz 3 years ago
Re-assembly took 6 hours. The clock on the wall is a bit had to read, but I set it to 12when I started, and finished at 5:55.

The 450 is sweet, compared to the 400, it feels like 1/2 te weight and 2ce the power.
