Reminds me of why I thought Chuck Berry was a piano player when I first heard Maybelline in1956; go on, go listen; I dare you. Johnny J. owns what he touches.
@zoot2233 Oh no, the piano player is the late Johnnie Johnson, the piano player for Chuck Berry. He's the Johnny in Johnny B. Goode -- though he plays a piano like a ringin-a-bell.
gsavage115. Please Garret, shut your mouth and learn some history of the masters. Jimmy Reed sold more records than almost anybody from the mid-fifties to early sixties. He has beeen in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 1991, and his songs are still being interpreted every day by a new generation of musicians. You wouldn't say some guy named Elvis, or Muddy Waters, or Keith Richards.
This version of Bright Lights Big City is not better than Neil Youngs version, from Everybodys Rockin which is a cover of The Animals. However, I'll still listen to it.
Ultimate Warrior -- the Animals covered Jimmy Reed's "Bright Lights Big City" and many other black blues standards. And thank you, but we'll decide for ourselves what to like and what to listen to....
ATTENTION ALL BLUES PLAYERS This is how you play a Jimmy Reed song with Respect. These greats on stage all have their own style but they leave their ego out in favor of a Jimmy Reed Eddie Talyor groove. I call it Respect anyone can solo all over a 12 bar but where is the blues tension or call & responds? They sho is laying down the Reed stack.
Yes it is. I was making reference to your average blues jams played all around the world where more than not it is about the big solo with as many notes as you can cram in and that was not Jimmy's style of blues music.

Great version of a great song. But what happened to TM's harp playing? He used to be awesome. Here, it's pretty limp.

while I agree overall... it feels like there is a hint of "damn bass players! let me hog all the sound!" when you say it.

The piano player is also Chuck Berrys, which leads me to believe he plays for many a rock n roll artists.
