Mark E. is the most normal honest suffering human who does hide behind fakeness...He's somewhat should be an example to all bastards of the world! If there was one guy i'd be honored to smoke with it'd be him
I discovered Eels about 2 years ago...Not till recently I've learned a lot about front man Mark Everett and his life.
I was lucky enough to catch Parallel Worlds on Pbs. It was very intriguing his life his experiences.Who he became the lyrics of songs that's what music is about .I love The Eels I wish Me and my wife would get to see them perform live in concert someday. Come to Texas!!!! .It'll be the bomb!!! Keep on ROCKIN!!!!!!!!!! peace out....Ralph
I LOVE the ending 'great great great'- part. (: I love this whole song. Mark Olivier Everett is an amazing songwriter and performer. I'm obsessed by his way of describing life. Please don't pass away young E the world needs you!

I love all his CD's and I love his book. If I ever bumped into him in public, I'd want to thank him for helping me through so much shit in my life. Not to be a creeper or anything, but I've got a weird sense that he's kind of my friend. But if I ever DID meet him, I'd probably get too choked up to really say much.
Brilliant song that makes me cry without fail, particularly the part about his father. AND the fact that E doesn't have kids, so most likely won't have grandchildren. Don't worry man, we'll make sure the grandchildren know.
This song's lyrics make a LOT more sense once you learn that Eels' father Everett was a physicist and concocted the theory of multiple universes. RE: "I know what it must have been like for my father to live inside his head."
I adore Uncle E. The voice of crazy sanity in my life. Bless you a million times over, E. You have been the soundtrack of my 30s. Okay 40s now too. We all outgrow the Clash eventually. Kind of. God, what a poet you are. A family of hideous gifts. Thank you, a million times thank you. All my love and admiration.
if it wasnt from hearing a segment of the song Beautiful Freak on a tv trailer, I wouldnt have known who he is. People need to know more about this brilliant man, I feel like i should have known of him 2-3 years earlier. But I understand that he isnt 'mtv' material and to be honest im pretty damn glad about that. I just hope that more people would know of him, he doesnt make music, he creates them.
the bit at the end made me cried when i was watching the whole documentary.just so heart breaking
@fleebus090 Well we can be like him in a way don' t you think... we can be respectful, interested and sympathetic to others, god damn it's so much harder to love than to hate, to genuinely understand another... just think about how truely good you'll feel after you've helped someone
@fleebus090 Why? Im so glad there not alot of people like him because that is what makes him so unique and special, It makes his music that much better.
I saw the Nova special too and was also touched. I always liked the handful of songs I knew from the eels and now I have a deeper appreciation for their creator.
For years, I thought I didn't like the Eels. It's a true testament to a band's greatness when I initially hate them and then grow to like them -- especially when songs so musically simple as this are poignant enough to truly win me over.
I really think E is a maverick and an artistic genius. Classic.
@Hi ..i was the same..then one day it clicked, this guy is a genius when it comes to putting his life and thoughts into song..I relate to so much of his story maybe i was too afraid to listen..but not now.
i enjoyed the bbc documentry on eels his father was one very clever man mark seems like a very chilled out dude an this song is an masterpiece i think its a case of like father like son but in two differnt parrel worlds lol if he ever comes on tour to liverpool uk i will deffinitly go and see hime :)
nice video. i love the eels and that song is soo good. does anyone know where i can get the documentary online? i live in America so the bbc sight doesn't let me use theres. thanks peace
great song, great video, great work! as great as U2 is/are and as much variety as there is within their catalog, it's nice to switch it up once in awhile. ;-) thanks for sharing it-
That is the exact line that grabbed my attention the first time, and why I listen to this again every once in a while. without that line, this is just a three chord throwaway song, but with it, really a good song (but impossible to cover well)
this is the only song that's truly changed my outlook on life in any way
