  • Man you are absolutely amazing. One of my co-workers gave me a free xbox because it rrod and I found your vids. After watching them all I fixed it!!!!!!11!!1!!!!!! Just thought I'd post a BIG THANKS!!!!!

  • I'm so stupid I messed up with my old xbox 360. Well i got new one :/

  • Thank you.

  • Thanks dude, not like those other a-holes who want you to pay for instructions.

  • did the hole thing but instead of puting polysynthetic in i used prestic and it didnt work still got ring

  • hey i did everything and the two light wont appera no matter how long i plug it in and have it running no the fan is not hooked up so thats not it PLEASE help me i have to get it working for tonight

  • I used a silicon based thermal compound from radio shack and it doesn't work, does it have to be the polysynthetic silver kind?

  • Okay well I got it working for five minutes then it heats up to the point where the two red lights come back on. After I put it back together red ring of death just constantly re appears.

  • I've watched your videos in depth. Great job

  • were do i get the heat glue stuff from?

  • @DeeJayAnXiety Best Buy

  • Followed step by step and didn't work?

  • Cheers mate, it's taken me a day and cost me 40 quid in tools and heat compund and stuff but worked a treat, off for a bit of BlackOps now.

  • Thanks so much man, I just fixed my rrod two hours ago! I'm do glad this wasn't a fake, now I do t have to buy a new Xbox

  • Anyone know the songs?

  • So basically u just overheat the system the better way and its fixed!? just like that? lol no wonder.. mine got it 6 times until it burned out. i just replugged everything the first 5 times and it worked again. lol. well thanks, ill try this method perhaps if the towel trick doesnt work. haha

  • Thank you so much. My friend game ma an xbox with rrod and i followed your guide and it works perfectly now. THANK YOU

    (liked and subscribed)

  • thank you so much for ur step by step video, my xbox was dead for a year, should have done this earlier.. only part was the screws which u didnt give much detail about, i just put the x's back on, if i have the same problem again, than i will forsure replace it. THUMBS UP.

  • I did everything as demonstrated and it worked for a day. Now rrod is back and I'm not sure I feel like dismembering my 360 a third time. Any ideas as to why the fix was so temporary?? Should I replace the thermal composite once again?

  • y u no put all the screws back in the bottom?

  • your not trying to sell me something so i trust yo video moars

  • Nice dude can you fix my old 360 I have here it's been sitting here for over 3 years with the red ring of death

  • Great vids, but still problem..

I did all the steps exactly as you in the vids. but i still got that fuckin´ ring of death.

    Any suggestions??

  • FUUUUUUUUCK MY LIFE. Who wants me to post a video of me annhialatin my xbox. Cuz my dad took it upon himself to take my newly bought repair kit and do it himself and it still doesnt work. Fuck the world

  • The RROD is gone, but trying to remove the x-clips, I accidentally destroyed a resistor (popped off the motherboard), but everything seems to be running just fine. Should I be concerned? Hmmmm...

  • I done exactly as you video says, tried it and green light came on straight away, didn't need to wait for overheat to cut in, superb fix, many thanks....................

  • Hi A. Milko (and/or anyone who can help),

We had two XBOXs (different models each) having RROD. We followed your instructions precisely, one we failed to fix (we'll try again - it's still "dismembered") and one worked like a charm... for a few weeks. Now it's RROD-ing again. Any idea what might be causing a relapse and what to do? Did we not put enough compound, or too much? Has it anything to do with the compound at all?

    Thanks for your help!

    MC

  • thanks for your time and the rod fix on you tube. btw, nice watch. is that a Tag huer? love tags. but only the original link style.

  • @JubeProductions ALFRED SUNG

  • Wow, this worked like a charm. That was incredibly helpful, thanks so much!

  • after i plugged it back in 1 redlight remained(before the thermal paste fix it was 3 lights) so i still let it overheat and cooldown, but it didn't fix it, any tips?

  • @Oxidized181 hey dude that means youve got a hardware failure on your hands so overheating might be the alst thing you want to try...try taking out your dvd drive or somethign of the sort btw any othere problems?

  • @skaterfreak198 what does this mean? ok, when i only have the power cable plugged, in it will stay green, but as soon as i plug the av wire in, 1 red light starts flashing, but then i tried that same wire on my brothers 360 and it works fine, then i plugged in the av wire that my brother was using, and it did the same thing, so does that mean that the av jack to my 360 is broken?

  • @Oxidized181 one light so possibly...if you have the equipment you could try to do a reflow on the vga i think wouldnt hurt to much to try

  • fuvk

  • Thank you soooo so much.

  • Hi, I have a problem, I fixed the rrod got the 3 rings, then the 2 rings. Cooled it down for several hours, and when starting it up, it went back to 3 rings again. Any suggestions please. Great video.

  • wait.. it worked for a bit.. lol its now overheating.. (2 red lights) .. what did i do wrong?!

  • @Driftacular Did you remember to plug in the fan?

  • @TheFaddler12

yah well i tightened the bolts at the back.. it worked for a while, then it started freezing in games, and now just a black sreen?

  • @Driftacular dude thats your gpu i bealieve graphics processing unit which probally means its failing try doing a reflow on it

  • @skaterfreak198 i know it is..

but whats reflow? like is it too tight? not tight enough? more cooling needed?

  • @Driftacular reflowing is if i rember right where you reheat it usally with a heat gun (20$) or something of the sorta you heat it up to the point were the solder reballs or whtver it melts and then drys so the connections from the board to the gpu are good

  • thanks bro. all fixed.

  • thanks for you my x360 is working again.

  • Thanks. Decided to try it out and so far it worked. Hoppefully for good. Thanks for posting this video.

  • great vid! sure it will work thanks alot!

  • Thanks a lot man! got my xbox fixed thanks to your step by step guide. I had a little issue at the end where I was getting an Error code 0011. worked out I had to tighten the screws more. After doing this it was fixed! Thanks again!

  • dude you are a life saver i would shake your hand if i could you went through all the steps in detail and it really helped elite is back and kickin, again thanks soooo much man

  • Great Video! you saved my xbox!

  • thank you it fixed my xbox u rock man

  • now, is this fix permanent? what type of thermal compound stuff do yu use? I just got a used Xbox with RROD3, and this video seems to be very effective. I'm just wondering if it's gunna go red again a week later?

  • @evoluchien yes it's permanent, arctic silver thermal compound. I got it at radioshack for $8

  • Worked perfectly and first time. Thanks a bunch. The only problem I had was finding a T9. Found it in a kit at Napa.

  • NIGGA I LOVE YOU :)))))))))))

    GOT MY JTAGS WORKING AGAiN

  • Now i know the problems and solutions for them. Now i can buy XBOX 360! These 3 are very good vids man. Thumbs up!

  • you are my hero now! it worked for me!

  • Comment removed

  • THANK YOU !! This fix works just as advertised !! I put off fixing this for quite some time, but now, I'm ready to rock-n-Roll !!

    Again, Thank you.

  • Thank you so much! This was a very clear and helpful guide. I've been putting off fixing my xbox 360 for a while now because I never thought I could do it.. A friend at school would have done it for $20, but this was a way better deal. Thanks so much for your help.

  • fixed my xbox tonight using this step!!!! works perfect now (well atleast it turned on. havent played it yet). the xbox has been sitting in my closet for like a year now. i thought it was screwed and bought a new one. awesome write up man. couple tips, if you dont have the screw driver set, home depot has a husky kit for 4.88. as i took the screws out i laid them on the table in the order they go back on so i didnt forget. take your time. dont rush. total time to fix is like 1 hour

  • that x-box went thru some serious surgery :D

  • I dont have an interculer but i put a little fan at the side of my xbox :D

  • I fixed it exactly to how you showed, but I still have a few problems...

    1. Sometimes it still Red Rings when I turn it on. I simply turn it off, then back on again and it's fine, but it doesn't seem normal to me that this happens.

    2. After playing my XBox for about an hour, the audio and video glitches and the console crashes. I'm not sure if this is because I need to reset it once again, but I'm not sure if the problem is due to overheating.

If anybody knows how to fix this, please reply.

  • i got 2 red rings after i got rid of the 3

  • thanks alot bro! had my xbox for over a year now, been researching about RRoD just in case if it happens to me and these videos have been a great amount of information, thanks!!!

  • I did everything step by step and it didnt work...gave me the RROD....is there anything else I can do before I run my xbox over....

  • i xant get my back off

  • Did you follow the step about letting it overheat(no fans connected) so the thermal compound can do its thing and letting it cool off for an hour . The two lights on the side meant it was overheating , i also cleaned every part with 91% alcohol and blowing it clean with canned air

  • ok well i did this fix, and when i got it all assembled again and turned it on, the xbox did its start up thing, and then the fans started getting loud, then 2 lights came on andd the screen went blank. i assume i did something wrong. any one know what the problem is?

  • I used to make fun of my friends that had the 3 rings of death until it happened to me . I thought I was fcuked and had to buy a new one until I saw this video. It may have taken me a day to do it but after following the video the X-BOX that I bought in 2008 will last me another 4 years. Follow what he says, make sure you have some JEWLERS SCREWDRIVERS AND A STAR ALLEN WRENCH SET FOR THE SCREWS ON THE BOTTOM and your good. Spent under $20 and saved a few hundred. Can fix it in a hour now TOPS!!

  • Works great! Thanks A.M. Now I gotta get some A/V cables...

  • Got everything going great right up until I had to to plug in the power and A/V cables and overheat it. Haven't used this Xbox in almost a year and I misplaced the A/V Cables, lol. So now I gotta wait until tomorrow morning to borrow my brother's, but I'll post back with my status after I test it. Regardless of whether this works or not, it's been a phenomenal learning experience and I really appreciate this step-by-step walkthrough. Thanks A.M

  • just fixed my xbox that i was sure was done for using this video series. i cant say thank you enough!! you sir, are a humanitarian and a gentleman!

  • Bought a refurbished Xbox 360 from Game Stop that red-ringed, so I'm going to try a "refurbish refurbish" tomorrow. They had already replaced the x clamps and screws but it looked like they applied the thermal compound with a paintbrush; covered everything. I'll post results tomorrow so anyone who has a refurbished deal will know if this works on them as well. Thanks for the vids man!

  • @dinkmeeker02 Just finished refurbishing a Game Stop "refurbished" Xbox 360 and another one I bought in 2008. The 2008 model had slightly different heat sinks but the layout and replacement was the same. Both work like a dream now: the refurbished "refurbish" works better now than when I bought it, and is quieter too (bonus?). I'm running a movie on the 2008 model now to test, but it's been working flawlessly for over two hours. Thanks A.M., you're a lifesaver! And my friends think Im smart

  • can I put my 360 back together without the black screws?

  • this didnt work for me i did the x clamp because of freezing and now i have 3 red lights at all times

  • dude it tuk u days or one day to fix that

  • i think im going to get a profeshial to do this

  • in general what materials do u need

  • I am actually waiting for mine to cool down. After some tinkering I got it to stay at 3 then about 4 minutes later BAM! It went to 2 lights. I didn't see you screw in the long screws that hold the top on. Do you still do that or no? Not sure if it a huge deal. Lemme no.

  • I believe you need to post the steps but this works! IT really does.

  • thank you so much for this tutorial. it worked like a charm.

  • Worked Perfectly, Thanks man! Was completely skeptical...followed the steps and successfully repaired my xbox from 2007.

  • @bmxertrevor056 should be less than $10 from Radio Shack

  • do u replug fans in

  • So i did the fix, both times though it took 7.19 min to go two lights... ugh i took it apart and redid it. still same thing, used same EVERYTHING he did in the vid including the thermal paste, i really have no idea what to do now... btw when i took it apart the thermal paste looked normal, didnt looked cooked or anything but im not sure... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh make it work so i can kill ZOMBIES

  • @elsandypants84 Remember put a thin layer of thermal paste and try loosening the 8 screws on the heat sinks but not to loose then try it. I literaly took the mother board out like 15 times playing with the screws and mine works now.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes I just did it less than 20 minutes ago, I used home made spirits ie: pure alcohol/ethanol to clean mine, it did take a while (maybe an hour of VERY gentle scrubbing with cotton applicators/ear buds) but I got them looking shiny just like in the vid.

  • can you use like ethanol for cleaning instead of rubbing alcohol?

  • Thanks!!!! Was given an XBOX360 with the "If you can fix it you can have it".

$3.63 (Screws and washers) for a 360!!!!! Had the Thermal compound from a PS3 fix. SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Bigfathairydeal7278 OMG same

  • hey man thanx but what was that stuff u put on that thing after u made it clean and shiny

  • Freaking awesome as hell, this fixed my system and it was very simple to do! Thank you so much for posting this!

  • U r a lifesaver, not the candy kind

  • is this a permanent fix?

or will it go again in a while?

  • Thanks so much!

  • Lol when we fixed it. it later was 4 red ring and im OMG! and leater we readed on google little and it was a really big problem or it only was at you needed to insert that thing

  • @Christian9484 really you would spend $2,000 on an xbox, you're fucking retarded!!! :(

  • Comment removed

  • @Christian9484 Do you even know how much $2000 is? I bet you're not familiar with the dollar, the sums of money are different from country to country. Say you've got for example 2000 swedish crowns, then that is circa 300-350 bucks, which is close to the price of an xbox 360

  • @Christian9484 Yeah i'm really sure you spent TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS on and xbox, GTFO kid, you're an idiot. No xbox costs $2,000. if anyone else wants to agree then plz thumbs up or at least make a reply to this little faggot. He is obviously 13 years old.

  • @xforce687 only a n00b would spend 2k on a Xbox.

  • Comment removed

  • @Christian9484 A fake email and account that makes no sense??? You know how I now your a little kid you cant even spell FAGGOT roght you little cock sucker, JUST GET BLOCKED YOU TWIT!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @xforce687 you are such a fuckin moron. He obviously met $200, which is what they cost.

  • ehhh i spent like atleast 5 hours doing all of this and it end uhp working...like for 10 minutes then my tv screen turned green nd made a scratchy noise really loud thought it was going to explode so i turned it of tried it again then got the red rings again -.- nd im fuckn mad fuck this..

  • xbox sucks lol

  • this unfortunately didnt work for me :(

it red rings then the lights change to overheat. I turn it off, cool it down, and when it boots back up it eventually red rings again. I even went back and tried replacing the thermal paste i'd just put on.

  • Comment removed

  • Holy crap! You just helped me fix my 1st Generation xbox. Very cool video and thanks for taking the time to explain it for us noobs. The only thing the video didnt say (That I heard anyway) was that the black screws that hold the x-clamps on dont get reinstalled after the 5mm screws go on. Again thanks from me and my son who are now gaming once again.

  • dude your the fucking shit you saved me big cash thanks so much for the videos

  • Thanks for the vids. They really helped allot!

  • I also like NOFX

  • thanks a lot for making these. worked great

  • thanks bro ima get u sponsored k

  • no no thank you , so long and thanks for all the shoes

  • What did he attach at 1:47 ? The power button? The eject button?

  • Thank you so much.

    Just finished repairing my XBOX.

  • just wondering man, where did you get all the stuff to fix it?

  • @bkbkbrett

    radio shack

its arctic five thermal compound and its silver

  • so far so good in two minutes went to two lights now gonna cool her off

  • Do you wait for the new thermal compound to set? or dry... before you put back the heat sinks?

  • @wiseguy1989xx When he plugged it in without the cooling fans on, when the xbox overheated(the 2 lights) the heat of it set the compound, then cool it back off, and it will be set.

  • @wiseguy1989xx It never "sets" or "dries". You put the heat sinks on and the two components being the heat sinks and the CPU and GPU will "bond" with the paste. After you let it cool off and should be good to go. I waiting for mine to cool down right now! Hope mine works.

  • one quetion what if it gets 4 red lights and goes to 3 in a few seconds

ps this will help me yay

  • I tried this and it went straight to the two flashing red lights. What did I do wrong?

  • Dude! It worked! I followed all of the instructions carefully and sure enough, it works like a charm now. Just DON'T FORGET TO THE THE T8 and T10 screwdrivers. It's easy to forget. Otherwise, great video, you've saved me a lot of money.

  • this is going to take me 3 hours

  • MICROSOFT HATES YOU

  • Do you put all the heatsinks back on? or did you replace em with new ones?

  • You are the man. I can not believe this worked.

  • @tankantc hey i got a question is your x-box 360 still work?

  • i swear this guy was high the whole time

  • Thanks for these three awesome vids, dude! I followed your steps closely and now my xbox is up and running again. I used goof-off instead of rubbing alcohol and nylon washers instead of rubber (that's all they had at the store) and sprayed out everything with canned air but everything else was followed to the T. Good job, man! Getting in and fixing it myself showed me the crap that microsoft tries to pass off as quality materials. Thanks again!

  • At first I had my doubts this would actually work, but I tried it anyways. Well I cant argue with the results because my xbox is working again.

  • milko09- Expert!

p.s. if you chips and stuff aren't dirty then just take the fan out and let it overheat then cool it off. thats what i did

  • im going to try it now. i'll let you know how it works for me.

  • song at 1:45 ?

  • ok...well after I followed your directions I got it to work!!! Played last night for a few hours, everyone was like, so you bought a new xbox already? lol...Excellent vid!!! Thanks again!! Now if I can just figure out something cool to do with the X clamps!!

  • hmmm....was green, loaded then I put the case back together, then it went back to 3 red lights...however....I didn't do everything you said because I just found your fix before I did what 2 hilljack kids were doing, I didn't have the parts to replace the x-clamps...I'll update in a day or two....

  • in cool down stage....

  • hell yeah worked for me

    thanks man.

    for anyone it didnt work

your probably retarded and didnt follow the steps or damaged something along the way :) because it works.

  • You are a LIFE SAVER! We had 2 xboxs that crashed and you saved us from having to buy another one. When I plugged mine in to overheat though, the lights never turned to just 2 flashing red lights. I was concerned about it getting too hot, so after almost 4 min I unplugged, put in front of a fan, and 30 mins later, a working xbox. Great fix, and thanks to the guy who made the shopping list. having the UPC's made finding the right parts so much easier. This fix definitely works!

  • @iFaiiL i would and then follow his steps step by step and it should work

  • Everyone saying that it didn't work for them, It's most likely because you scratched the things that you put the Arctic Silver on, I had an xbox, I tried this, Scratched it an saw the scratch, It didn't work, I had to buy another xbox, Eventually i got another red ring and i did this and I had NO scratches, I did everything in order and exact, and it worked perfectly.

  • Followed the steps and it worked great. However, there should be a list of items that you need to execute this fix. Here is what I used from Home Depot and Radio Shack.

RS - Artic Silver 5 - Thermal Compound.

    HD -Qty - 8 Machine Screw Pan - Phillips 5 x 10mm UPC - 030699 801282

    Qty - 16 Flat Washer Nylon #10 UPC - 030699 869381

    Qty - 16 Flat Washer Steel / ZINC Plated 5mm UPC - 030699 363087

Get these items ahead of time it will save you time.

    Thanks AM!!!!

  • @Im2busee THANKS for this too.

  • i did it and it works! but your gotta do it STEP by STEP don't skip anything, the first time i tried to skip cleaning the CPU and GPU didn't work, after that i clean them and i only used a rubber washers on the backside to make sure the heatsink was on the chips firm and it works. This is better than the towel trick because you get rid of the X-Clamps and you're adding new heat sink paste.

  • Thank you, I didn't follow your 'structions "exactly" but it was definitely helpful for what I was doing.

  • gay (ohh and also fake, tried it, didnt work)WHORE!

  • @MrSk8rkid kid you are a troll stop yelling at him just because your xbox is fried most likely because you did the "towel trick" or the "penny trick" just get off the internet if all you do is troll..

  • Hey I followed your vids and everything went well.. Problems came when I play a game for 5 minutes it freezes and the screen goes wacky! The fan is really loud aswell.. any suggestions? Thanks~

  • @stevie1100 sounds like your about to get the rings again lol

  • Hey man, I really wanna thank you for posting these videos. They honest to god helped me fix my xbox. It took me about 2 hours and costed me only $17 for the thermal compound and the items for the x clamp mod. You saved me having to wait 6 weeks for microsoft to send me a new one, or $300 for having to buy a new one. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

  • did you get an x clamp kit for those new bolts or did you get them at a hardware store?

  • @DAVISEDWARD88 you can get them at most hardware stores like menards if you have one of them in your state or a regular hardware store.

  • Thank you very much, my children are playing with their Xbox 360 again. They thank you also. Saves them a lot of pocket money.

  • @XtrOn43 hey i got a question is your x-box 360 still working? because my x-box 360 just got one?

  • @HeadHunterz36 Unfortunately not, I fixed it, like in your uploads. It worked for about a day. Then again, 3 red rings. I redid the wole process. It worked again, this time for about three hours. Same problem arose again. Then I tried it for the third time. It worked for five minutes. So I gave up. But I believe I did something wrong, have not figured out what. It is not these instructions. I think they are sound.

  • you r a fag

  • good video mate not needing to fix mine just having a look how to do it 10/10

  • did you use the original x clamp or did it come with a kit

  • the worst system ever made

  • Comment removed

  • Fixed my Xbox from this video. TOP MAN. I add
