Whew...sounds reasonable, sane and combines self-interest and compassion, a very American perspective. Thanks for this level headed material. Bless you Charlie...you are our helmsman guiding our ship through storms, real, perceived and bullshit.
Don't forget, he actually gives away hundreds of millions a year to American citizens who truely need it. I know a few of these people he gave money to.
I'm very appreciative for Warren Buffett's courage to publicly present this logical perspective. His views are very consistent with those of Robert Reich's. Our country has, to a significant degree, moved from valuing "the common good" to self-serving individualism, often to the point of greed. The economic gap between the wealthy and everyone else continues to grow.
@sebastionay if you had paid attention he did say that spending should be cut. Also, I seriously doubt the tax proposal he's suggesting affects you. When people talk about shrinking the government all they think about is money and taxes however, all the people screaming about shrinking the government also scream for the state or federal governments to legislate a skewed "morality"i.e. restricting the rights of gays and women. THAT by definition is a BIG government.(Gov w/less $ doesn't=Freedom)

He's only talking about raising taxes, when instead government could shrink, pay less tax and close the deficit.
