ahh, the 1980's,, soooo many of these videos have a Polaroid camera in them.. it's amazing lol they have a unique visual appeal in vids likes this, compared to a Kodak 110, or disc camera etc....
@all the people posting about this song and whether or not the singer is gay or not, come on...who cares, its obviously a song people love, and to the people questioning his sexuality just take a look back at several artists from the 80's & u prob will find quite a few more to add 2 your list, of course a few are, like George Michael but he still is a great artist. Sexuality doesn't define a persons talent.
Uuuuh... ich erinnere mich. ^^ Mein Bruder hatte die Maxi-Single. :D Gino trat damals mit dem Song im ZDF auf und ich fand den schon richtig cool. Lange her...
He looks like David Hasellhoff in this video. A good song, but terrible production. Another example of a 70's artist making a misguided attempt to fit in during the 80's. Of course, a lot of that was down to record company execs and producers trying to make veteran artists sound "contemporary" at the time.
@jimidrix5 man, you really seem like you want him to be gay even though he's not. I'm starting to think that with all your fantasizing about him you're the hershey boy, not him.
A definate 80's staple to the sound and look for what the time was like. An interestingn fact: take a closer look at the 'women' in and around the club, including the driver of the black car....they are all men in drag! It seems as if actual women show up towards the end when surrounding Gino with their Polaroid cameras! I always found that slightly odd yet acceptable for this video and the era! Enjoy!
@mexicancomic13 The driver of the black car/"woman" at the table IS Gino Vanelli. Had to be pointed out to me in '85 when I first saw the video. I thought "she " was quite attractive and was rather embarrassed, later. Oh, well, naiive teenager.
I met a guy from the states, who ( I didn't know then), but he was a racist! Glad to go back to Canada! It was all good until then, though.... Don't like racist stuff....
@grimandproper Vannelli's music preceded Palmer's big hits so I'd say Palmer was very Gino Vannelli..it's a compliment to both these stylish singers..and they both knew all about gorgeous women..YOWSA..
Danced to this song in the Dance Company with a nice and sexy Jazz dance. We were called "The Silhouettes". And we wore all Black and Black shades!!!!! Black cars look better the shade!!!!
I remember this song at my SafeGrad 85, or the high school graduation dance. I was having so much fun that night...years ago as a teenager. Great song..it is timeless!
The first time I heard this tune, it was the extend dance mix. I didn't know who it was until a few days later I guy I worked with told me. Hey, it made Gino cool in my books!
spookespook, alot of the women in this video are men and vice versa. I also heard that the person driving the car is Gino Vinelli, though they have someone else do the rest of the part.
I really like this hit for the music itself..Gino had a few hits spanning the mid-seventies and eighties. He was a Canadian, along with Corey Hart & Bryan Adams. Bryan of coarse being posssibly the biggest name in Canadian music, even surpassing the likes of Anne Murray & Gorden Lightfoot...both dominated the canadian pop scene in the seventies. Gino was french-canadian was he not? thx4postin'
I wonder if he had the same producer as Robert Palmer. Memories of Jr High dances come running back. Classic 80's music video style. Rumur has it he has mob ties. I always liked the song but thought he was kind of cheesey with his Miami Vice style.
Here is a skill testing question for all: Who is the lady who walks in to the club and sits at the table in front of Gino? This is good video trivia to stump your friends with.
Gino Vannelli is probably the most under-rated singer/songwriter of all time. There are many people who still today don't know his work; and for the life of me I've never been able to figure out why.
His vocal stylings are incredible, and he's always given 110% in all of his shows. This is one of his best efforts. Thanks for posting.

So do I. I remember this tune playing alot in the night clubs my gal and I use to party at. This was a great dancing song. I liked this song most of all because I had a black car.
I use to have a black 73 Nova SS so I have always liked this song from day one. My wife and I use to go to the clubs here in White Rock back in 1985 and often dance to this song.
I sold my last vehicle a year ago and it has been the first time ever I've been without four wheels. By the way, my wife hates my Harley sticker in her back window, lol. She peels it off and I stick it back on, lol
Un tema muy sonado en los años 80,recuerdo la época de la escuela secundaria, hizo un estilo único con solo esta canción muy bailable para la época,un TEMAZA "GRACIAS TOTALES"
When I was sixteen years old I heard this song played once on the radio. I was with a friend traveling in his car. I wondered;... Who was it that was singing that wonderful song?
"Black Cars look better in the shade"...Indeed they do...
I thought I imagined this song for a minute! The last time I heard it was 1985 in Sandbridge,Virginia Beach,VA-on my way there actually.Good job and good times!
Another (sadly) underplayed, underrated song from the 1980s. I was much, much younger back then, but I did enjoy hearing this song when my kids would play this (rather loudly) in our basement. I would open the basement's door so I could hear it better. It was always fun to hear the drum solo with headphones on topped off with Gino's "Whoooo!"
Ok now this is gonna sound fu**ed up but .. I completley forgot about this song until i was in JC Penney At South Park Mall In San Antonio.. and it came up over the loudspeakers.i was like wtf?? "i haven't heard this song in a long time" and was mesmerized all over again GREAT song!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Gino!!!!!!!nAnd thanks for posting Arroaz!!!!!!!!!!

Yet another song where Gino looks fine and sounds better! I liked his look during this period, and he's still great today!
