Guys, W8 Passat have enough air flow coming in from stock filter, it was made perfect unlike other cars. The only thing you can do to the intake is get a K&N drop-in filter to replace the paper one, that's it. Cold air intake will ruin your W8. Unless you have a civic! Lol
True. I sliced just the bottom of my airbox off, cut off some stupid valves, and it runs great. Has a nice sound, much better throttle response, and with K&N burns less fuel.
Looks good. I dont care what others say, that is a good looking install. If you find the performance isnt there, you can always go to another brand of filter, In addition to that, the W8 Filter housing is a pain in the butt to deal with, This would make it so much easier.. Good goin.
oh dear, you were conned with that air filter - it's surface area is 13 times smller than the vastly oversized paper one. So the holes in yours are 13+ times bigger to allow the same amount of air through as a paper one. You are restricting performance and sandblasting the engine. Yours also degrades performance rapidly after a few hundred miles due to the 1ft surface area becoming clogged up. I wish people like you were not so gullible and would learn about filtration and gasflow.
hey now man no need to call people dumb ass's just cuz u Think u know more than us or have a bad attitude i guess. just leave a nice comment or get out.
@zappatx excellent if you don't want correctly filtered air going in to the engine. Don't fall for adverts run by sales people. They direct them at the lowest intelligence range of the car world and every single one falls for it. Why remove a perfectly good paper filter that is oversized and supplies the engine with more air than can be used at full RPM? Do you even know how intake tubes and air filter housings alter the torque and power characteristics? i thought not, you keep wasting money.
Although this looks good, (thumbs up!) I did the same with only a drop-in K&N filter, removed the "prefilter" screen before the air box, and wrapped the entire airbox and intake tubes with aluminum foil. Measured the air box temp. before and after; made a huge difference. The aluminum foil reflects more heat than most standard aluminum sheet metal that's painted black.
What size Amsoil filter is that exacly? Or part number. Looking at my intake I would think it's 3.5" ID for the inlet. But I would like to know for sure before ordering.
Good luck. Not much out there. Drop-in K&N filter is about it. REMUS used to make a cat-back exhaust system for it, but I think it's discontinued, since they are hard to find. I've seen w8's with aftermarket universal mufflers, but they don't really add anything but sound. I'm waiting for someone to do a custom supercharger kit. I think if a guy could atleast get one to fit under the hood, a good VW tuner good make it work. Or just be happy with what you got. That's what I'm TRYING to do!
Ha, I've been a VW enthusiast since I was 10 (11 years now), when my dad bought a new 1997 Jetta GT that was standard. I've always liked the GTIs the best, and have always wanted an MKIV .:R32. I just bought my first VW, a 2000 Passat 1.8T, and it's fun as hell, standard of course, I hate automatics. But I gotta say, it would be a hard choice for me to choose between an .:R32, and one of these w8's.

@urbex2007 - Apparently you're not familiar with the new cutting-edge nanofiber technology air filters.
