oooohh! the melody at 1:47 reminds me of that song in mary poppins, "jolly holiday!" "oh, it's a jolly holiday with maaaryyyy..." GOD i love movies like this. thank heaven for my childhood.
The only thing different between the Eddie Murphy Dr. and the one written by Hugh Lofting is that the Lofting Dolittle isn't black, he isn't American, he didn't live in the 20th/21st century, he wasn't a vet by trade, he didn't have any "superpower," he wasn't married, he didn't have a daughter, and he wasn't skinny. Outside of that they got it fairly accurately. The "real" John Dolittle was a short, fat, white British 19th c. human medical doctor who changed occupation to that of a naturalist.
@savordagirl22 Hollywood that's why. They're running out of ideas so they have to keep destroying classics. They should thank their stars that comics exist cos without the revenue generated from superheroes, they'll be finished.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! I get so sick of people who look at me all funny when I say "Dr. Dolittle" because they think I mean the uh... "other one" which is horrible, and the original is just marvelous!!! Thanks for posting!!!
THANK YOU! I had posted a version of this song with lyrics, but I couldn't remember the name of the guy who sang it..Thank you so much, now I can put that up in the info on my vid, I'll post it as a reply :D
Fair point; the Doctor's technobabble CAN sound rather strange- if not to the extent described here-, but he definitely wins support and friendship for his views even if some people don't understand them.
When I hear this song, I can't help but think of singing this about Doctor Who. :)

Haha, I was born in 1997 so all of these good old movies are way before I was even born, but I still prefer all this over to what's out now. ^^
