  • sm will eventually create icons--- similar to Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Elvis, and Beatles. k pop is growing in popularity everyday.......*_*

  • TT^TT But Im not Asian...

And that is why I shall audition anyway.

Even though I have a Texas-ish name, and I look like a Texan. BECAUSE I AM FROM TEXAS.

    WHEN I TURN 16, I SHALL AUDITION. >:C WATCH OUT, SM-E.

  • @SingLoid im sorry but you have to be full fledged asian to be chosen by sm, if your caucasian they will turn you down

  • @SlayerGod999 I know... =.= But it's fun to TRY, right???? You neer know, they could change their policies by 2015.

  • @SingLoid wat makes you say that

  • @SlayerGod999 Idk. :/ Its POSSIBLE, right!?!

  • @SingLoid well sm is an major korean record label, so if your white, they all pick asians u know for asian label

  • wow what a coincidence. sep 30 is my b-day and i live in nyc xD

  • It's weird they hold the audition in a non asian country

  • @xILoVeCoMeDiesx yea i was asking the same thing

  • i think western would get accepted if they're no too dark you know like a black person or too white like a white person i'm not being racist but i think a western person would pass the auditions if they're talented enough and they could pull it off as being an ethnic mix or an asia with double eyelid cuz there are some asian that look very western like choi siwon from ze:a and kim taehun from ze:a and specially taehun looks so western i thought he wasnt korean.just have talent and audition =)

  • erm...so has a mixed race person ever passed the sm auditions?

    as in french...korean...ghanian? LMAO

  • Hi, does anyone here knows SM's audition email? Please help me, thanks.

  • @kylerna

    go on smtown . com.

    they tell you everything there.

  • @12zuzus but i can't access the page :/

  • what is the title of music ?

  • I'd say the best way for a western person to get into the asian popstar industry is to try out for the Avex Star Search Auditions. Avex is a Japanese company and they welcome ALL artists, regardless of race. Plus, they're more or less like SMe, only without the slave contracts. They've got the Artists Academy too. Not to mention DBSK are currently over there. Now THAT would be the life.

Training to make it big in Asia while drooling and stalking Jaejoongie.<3<3

    Woo~ :D:D

  • How SM dare to put CSJH The Grace in their video's audition when we all know they don't care about them ...

Seriously, I really don't get it.

  • @CutiieAngiie

i dont think you work in SM o_O

how do you know that they dont care about them..

they obviously care enough about CSJH to put them in their promotional video. if they didnt care about our 4 girls, why would SM put them in the video to start with?

i TRUST in SM that CSJH will comeback.

you dont know ANYTHING about how it feels like in the industry because u havent been there.

i think its just best to give them the benefit of the doubt and be there for them when they ARE down.

  • Yeah I don't work in SM lol.

Maybe I was overeacted, but all I saw since I know them is a lack of promotion.

I really agree for their 1st album, there was a REALLY great promotion ! I mean, it was a hit and girls were famous but after ?

They went to Japan, return in Korea and that's all. Peoples forgot them ...

I just want to say it's a shame they don't have a real support from SM.

And maybe I'm wrong like you said, but all I saw is that.

  • so can anyone who can't speak korean join? i knew pretty people in phil who wants to join and they got talent too... but can't speak korean

  • @JeilhoMicaiel I'm pretty sure they can because if I remember correctly Amber from f(x) couldn't speak Korean when she joined SM.

  • What`s the soooooooong? :O

  • I have no idea if SM entertainment is really abusing their artists. Well, i hope its not true, because most of my favorite k-pop artists is in SM.

And i would never want them to suffer. Just imagine them being beating up is just horrible. Well, no one have the rights to treat other people like that. Because human are human, not slaves. I just hope that the word "Slave" has never been invented.

  • I'm not so sure about SM directly abusing their artists, but definitely indirectly. The artists are given the decision to sign slave contracts. Since, all of them are young, they aren't aware of how much time and effort they would potentially spend in the following years. They work long hours and end up being paid less than they deserve. I'd consider that abuse. Sure having fame and glory would be awesome, but are you willing to sacrifice ALOT for them? My advice:audition for other ent companies

  • Yeah... better to join other companies then SM, be safer. But i hope those who sign the slave contract could get out of it. Coz working hard and not getting wat you deserve is really (could say bad). What's bad is that this is a abuse between human and human. I really don't know wat is going on on Lee Soo Man's mind...

  • Wealthy people like Lee Soo Man are too clouded in their own little world of greed. They wouldn't care. As long as they rake in the dough, no complaints. Once you sign that slave contract, you must fulfill it until it ends. You could possibly hire a lawyer and take legal action, but I'm not so sure. All I know is the celebrity life in South Korea really isn't as glamorous and fun as people would think it to be. Especially the scary netizens. One mistake and you can kiss your career goodbye.

  • Harsh reality in South Korea... Hai...

  • Well I don't agree.

Even if you are going to another ent companies, it's the same.

I mean the slaves contracts aren't only for SM but YG and JYP too.

  • That still doesn't make it right. Also, JYP recently said that he won't have slave contracts anymore, so that's good. But still, these people are being paid less than they should be for working hours and hours everyday. Case in point, working in Kpop is a huge sacrifice in your life. Choose wisely, and trust me, there have been many that have auditioned, gotten accepted, and changed there minds during the training process.

  • Yeeah I know.

There are so many peoples who want to be a star like DBSK, Boa, SNSD etc.

They think it's really great to be famous and don't see what kind of life they will live.

When I think about that, it's really hard for the stars.

    Work everyday like slaves.

They aren't considerated like humans oO'

But objects who make money !

    It's awful.

I really hope it will change later because a life is fragile even if it feels good to have fans' support.

  • I would fall under "etc." lol

  • I would totally do this. Two problems I'm not asian and I dont live anywhere near those places :(

  • OMG i didnt know this existed! do they do it every year?

  • yeah they do it every year.

  • I'm chinese and i've always wanted to try out but my chinese is all gone! DX i forgot it all and all i can speak is english :[ so idthink i can try out :[

  • They should hold these auditions in Australia. I know I would try out(:

    Even though i'm thai

  • 2nd that. but i doubt they'll hold auditions in Australia. at least we have Australian Idol and Australia's got talent.

AHHH!!! what am I talking about i never watch that anyways!!!

  • at first the song reminded me of shinee world by shinee xD haha. but nah it aint it =/.

  • o:

my friend's friend auditioned and made it (:

  • WOW!

    Thats awesome xD

Did they have any specific qualifications?

  • Hmm, I'm not sure...

    Sorry ):

  • who is she/he? =O

  • Woow

    That's so cool ;]

    congrats to him :P

  • really? after 2 months, someone replied..XD...is this friend korean?

  • waaaaa. why cant they held auditions here at the philippines?

  • love the video!!!

    jang ri in!!!

    saranghe!!!

  • does anyone here know the name of the lady in 0:23? thanx, shes just too pretty,

  • her name is lee yeon hee, one of sm's best young actress...

  • oh, thanx so much.

i just learned that she's the one in kangta and tvxq's mvs, lol, im a girl but she's just too pretty, thanx

  • it's the same that boa used for her promotion in usa

  • what's this song for background?

  • what that song in the background?? ive heard it before

  • DBSK purple line

  • I've no clue what the back ground song is..

but i'm sure it's not purpleline.

  • Yea, it's definitely not Purple Line.

  • i don't think theres any western ppl pass the audition but stephanie and isak

i meant, the ppl auditioning are like, too western i guess, and western artist in korean isn't really popular too, for example, isak

so u can't expect sm to just let a black rapper or a blonde teenage girls to let them pass, becuz you can't be popular with that kind of looks in korea or asia, it just weird (no offense).

western ppl can only be famous by western company, asian can only be famous by asia company

  • o_o

    oh really?

leah dizon o-o is mixed asian

and she came from las vegas

and is i guess famous alittle in japan

    :D

  • so true

  • whats the song playing in the backround???

  • whats the backgrond song for this lol

  • u fulfil the requirements if ur chinese/japanese/korean or strictly east asian looking. So for you south east asians/or islanders, youll hav a tough time.

Basically looks is the most important, talent is like secondary requirement. so if you got lots of talent n u look ugly, then no chance. Yet if your good looking, and you have abit of talent or potential, then you'll hav a greater chance..

basically looks looks 60%, talent 40%.

  • have anyone been to sm audition??how was it like??can share??

  • awsome xD

  • Do they have any keyboards set up that you can use? cause im thinking of auditioning for this year (if there is one), and i wanna sing while playing the mr on the piano.

  • they want u 2 sing w/o music

  • you can sing with music if you're the one playing the accompaniment. but you can't have a cd accompaniment.

in certain audition sites they might have a keyboard, but the safest choice (just in case they don't have one) is to bring your own.

hope this helped and good luck!

  • do you think someone who's not asian can still go to the audition cause I can speak Korean not perfectly! the only problem is I'm not asian and I don't look asian at all I heard you can still audition even if you're not as long as you're really good do you think it's possible?? pls answer thx:)

  • yes!!

examples arelike hangeng from super junior, he was chinese but he still debuted in a korean group, they make u take korean lessons

  • Hangeng's chinese. which equals asian.

  • Oh man i was so stupid a year ago. I just thought about Hangeng not being able to talk Korean. Anyways, wouldn't Uh Isak be a good example?

  • can anyone plz tell me when is the 2008 audition in malaysia???plz...i need to know n really sorry for interupting...i miss last year audition and i think i dunoe anyting bout the audition at all...there was no news at all....n im sure many ppl dosen't know that there is an audition...-____-ll

  • the form for this year isn't out yet

but if you keep checking once in a while at smtown[dot]com

but mostly it is in semp.

  • yeah they release info on the auditions about a month before it actually happens so don't b too worried. just keep an eye out on their website.

    good luck.

  • hey

just out of curiosity, how long do you think it takes for them to reply to an email? - i sent a few questions to the help email, not the application one

  • they rarely check the help email. but when they do it's usually once every 2 weeks. don't be surprised if u don't get a reply back or if u get an automated one. i think the best places to get your questions answered are either on the smtown website or at the soompi audition thread. hope this helped :)

  • Man, I want this so bad. I'm training so hard with my singing and dancing but it's nothing compared to what sm has. GOD I WANT TO MAKE IT, I dont care bout the pressure or anything cause I just love singing and dancing and wanna make a career out of it

  • so wait, do u HAVTO speak an asian language to get in?

cuz im korean but SUCK at speakin korean :(

i heard JYP wants to make artists in america. so does tht mean i can speak english? :)

  • Er, well there are trainees that barely speak korean. We know Henry of suju m can barely speak korean or chinese... he still got in. the only thing required really is talent and uniqueness. stop worrying and do your best at an audition. they aren't targeting any particular group, just a person with a lot of talent, that's all. XD

  • ahhhhhh i seriously love you :D hahaha <3

  • I'm afraid to audition because if i do make it, it might take me like flippn 6 years or so to finally debut. And i dont know if my dream can wait that long. im stuck in between doing American idol or this. I heard idol you basically have to sell your soul. And its way too much publicity in ones personal life. so i dont know what to do. help?

  • ooh i think u should do both

i think american idol will be a good expreience

  • hmm, i guess. but i'll do idol first? well thanks.

  • ^^ np.

    i wish u good luck =]

  • why dnt u just do it? dnt mean to be patronising, but its not like theyll 100% take u...

  • wheres the next audition! when!

  • they should do it during summer break

    so i can go there.!

  • Questions: I'm gonna be going to college next year. You think that's too old to audition? And if I really did make it as a trainee, will I have to drop outta college? But if I never make it to debut, then dropping outta college would be a waste. 0.0?

  • Will they have audition this year? OMG just think if you get in you'll work with Super Junior that will be so cool-lah

  • Will they have one this year?

  • Being a celebrity might sound fun, but its actually not. My friends brother, believe it or not, was chosen as a trainee in 2007. He was very excited to be picked, but he recently dropped out. Why? He was under so much pressure and had little sleep. He said it was totally unexpected and that he now knows what you need to go through to be a star. It's not easy. Hours and hours of practicing songs, dancing, learning foreign languages, how to be charismatic, comedic, etc...

  • exactly, some people think its really easy. it us fun at first because its new to you but it will get tough as you go on.thats why so less people get to be stars even thoe so many are trainees.some cant handle that much pressure and they quit^^"

  • And that's just the beginning of it. What happens when you become famous? You have to deal with rumours. You don't always get privacy with the media. The pressure stays even as you try to keep a postivie image unless you can work it the other way like Paris Hilton. And this is something that we as the viewers know about too. I guess only those who really love performing would be able to deal with the negative sides of this.

  • That is the truthh.

But honestly, I'd prob love the opportunity. I just hate the fact that the songs and band names created are so mainstream and unoriginal. like wtheck is with Wondergirls? Super Junior? These names are so elementary. :/

  • haha omg, i just noticed that. they sound like "power ranger".. like super hero names. haha.. cute! =]

  • Super Junior? What's wrong with that name Super Means a lot more (good)

  • I know. But, when you look at the names, you can tell they don't give much thought to them. I'd pick a more creative name, you know? Especially in the entertainment business. And everything in this area is about first impressions.

  • Yes, but there are good things about being a singer too. being able to work with other artists, have fans, perform and maybe even have your own concert!! i'm sure that you have to go through a LOT of hard times but you will have happy memories too! If i had the chance to get in, i would not give up!!

  • what if i can sing but not dance? lol,i heard there is a 30 seconds freestyle. oh and if singers, they are only looking for people to sing in korean right?

  • It's 2008. You'll have to wait. Usually they'll train you in dancing too. It depends what they want you to be if you make it. Sometimes they also make you perform both a dance and song for the audition.

  • wait, there's another audition this year?

  • what is the DBSK MV song called showed in this video?

  • oh jung ban hap..

  • really? Cause i don't remember this part.

  • what is the DBSK song called showed in this video?

  • Did anybody make it as a trainee here?

  • If cannot go there for audition. Can I send my voice that I record to SM entertaiment?Who can tell me can or not by using sending e-mail to SM. Pls tell me..

  • I think one of the reasons of the in-person auditions is to see how committed you are. If you REALLY wanna become a singer, you have to show them you're committed. Even if it means you have to take a ten hour car ride to New York...but hey, if you wanna send in the tape by all means do so. I doubt they'll accept you though =/

  • OMG i never knew there were auditions!!!!! and i live in Toronto ......even if the did i'm not sure if i was allowed to enter i would be 12 than and right now i'm 13; my birthday is in December

  • i might as well enter next year when they come a again .......

  • ,im going 13 these year on 30 december can you guys wish that somehow i can make the audition and the worst part is im in England( mum studying here) and this too bad cause i cant be in Malaysia auditioning. Actually i believe i have a real talent like dancing but just ok in singing ahh dear god , friends help me

  • hey its ok!!!believe in yourself!!^^ you have a better chanse if you believe in yourself like me^^

  • thanks youre great help kamsaheyo. ahh you must try harder too promise than we all can make to the audition.anyway what age are you and where do you live?

  • right now im 14 and im living in vancouver BC in canada xDD

  • ah i really wanna cry, i wish someone will confort me, my mum dont know that this is my dream to become a singer, i bet she wont even let me bacause its againts our religious, yes im a muslim ,im a malaysian too.

  • aww...thats not fair! my mom ws againest me being a singer and still is lol but i still went and auditioned from sm.and i was a finalist for the vancouer audition though i didnt advance any farther because my mom wouldnt let me go to the private audition

  • lol wat number were u and only 3 people out of the 12 advanced. there were supposed to be 15 but most of them couldn't come. One of my friend (staff) was kinda fussy cuz most of them arrived late... from wat i heard they're gonna pick a new location for 2008 cuz the room was too cramped and only receiving 300-400applicants or split into 2 days cuz it was too rushed

  • ehh..i was in the hundreds from vancouver^^ but i didnt make it to the private auditions cuz my parents were like crazy about not letting me be a singer..imagine xDD i was a finalist where i lived and the reason i couldnt go was because of that lol but im gonna audition next year^^ hope i can be finalist again^^

  • hmm the audition is split into 3 so im guessing u got into the 2nd one? cuz 1st was raw where they hav almost an unlimited number then the 2nd one was only sent out to 20 people ish the 3rd one was from all the regions and they group together but no eliminations till the progress of training, Their still busy with the later auditions @.@ So the results are final for all auditions (including actor and models) will be around end of dec-january.

  • lol but they sent me the rejection email lol

  • O i thought u meant u went thru the 2nd one which was the private in which they sent u the e-mail for acception and consent

  • nope.. i didnt get to go because my parents didnt want me to go cuz they thought they were a scam -.-" i was so angry when i heard them say that cuz sm is the company that "made" dbsk and super junior the way they are now -.- so yah.. but i probably would have made it to the 2nd round if i went

  • well sm is quite an expanded company ranging from acting, singing, dancing, composition, to any fine arts. training those to succeed in what they worked for during their auditions, but i can tell u this sm sometimes is harsh...they auditioned 2 girls in as sm trainees but they were eventually rejected on half of their training never got to debut so yea. A scam tho isnt really the way to put it -_- also...wat does ur parents mean made o.O

  • ehh srry grammer is bad xDD i mean that sm is a really good company because you can see how dbsk and suju is doing now for so long^^

  • why are the two girls kicked out when they are trainees? I mean like I know not all trainees can debut, but what are the reasons that caused them to lost the opportunity of being a trainee?

  • That i never asked but maybe cuz they're not really upto the potential i guess...Ill look into it *pokes my friend*

  • ???? There's 3 rounds?

  • What's the private auditions?

  • you sing, dance, take pictures(?) by yourself with only the judge at where they're staying ^^" so there isnt anyone else with you

  • basically to clarify their choices they pick a number of people to go thru another audition... therez only a certain amount of people that they will actually accept as trainees. For 2008, They might change some aspects to create less confusion and disruption such as time and place which I think won't happen cuz itz not their problem but if you really wanted to audition you should consider rescheduling instead of complain

  • i'm thinking about this audition, but my mom wont allow me for it.. T.T she dont want me to become a singer..T.T this is sad... i really wanna do it.. and learn new stuff.. i dont care if i got rejected.. but.. at least i want to change my character become more open..

    this is really sad..

  • This may sound harsh but if you don't have enough courage and determination to persuade your parents, then I don't think there is a point in auditioning. Go out there and do what you gatta do to be in this audition if you are serious about it!

  • amsd1231, i couldnt agree more with you.dude if that's your dream you have to challenge against all odds to turn that dream into reality.

hope it went well for u.hwaiting

  • my parents send me to Canada for studying.. and it's not in the big city.. and they asked my brother to take care of me.. it's really hard to go away just like that.. i mean.. seriously...

  • so r u going?..cool enough to see other malays participate

  • if you seriously want to be a singer and train and stuff i think you would manage to make your parents let you go audition.get her to at least let you go audition.whats the big deal with that?its not like right after you're gonna be a star and go to korea -.- persuage your parents like i did. for a week i did whatever they wanted me to do and i got to go..and it wasnt easy but i did^^

  • so if we applying 4 dancing, do we need 2 choreograph our own dance, n r we gonna dance the whole song or how?

  • im from malaysia n i just heard that there'll b an sm audition this december..i really wanna join it but the thing is that i cant sing at all..can i just audition by just dancing n not singing?..i'm a malay so..i guess i have like a very very slim chance 2 get chosen..but still wish to try it out..

  • yes u can. just select dance category when u apply. go smtown website for more details

  • haha i'm going to just tell you guys that are considering this that you will NOT be accepted unless you are either extremely (potential)pretty and/or extremely talanted.

they are looking for stars remember that

don't be shy and don't look down

oh. and you have to be asian

it says it on their website

all ASIANS are welcomed; if you're not asian you can go but they will not take you seriously

hmm unless you can speak a east asian language and blow their mind

  • lol an english (dont wanna say white) guy went in and first question they asked is do you speak korean? he was like No and only language i know is english. He had a good voice and all but in the end they said sorry but we are looking for asians or if you know any asian languages :/ poor guy XD

  • for the global auditions

do u HAVTA b able to speak an asian language?

  • i think if you're in like malasyia or thailand and sm comes for auditions there, they won't require that you speak korean/chinese/etc.

  • it depends on the region you are in, If you are auditioning in Canada, US, Toronto, Taiwan, etc they have a minimum requirement of actually knowing an asian language or just a little bit. Basically basic concepts of Hi, How are you, etc., they want you to be at least able to comprehend/understand, of course during your training as a trainee they will put you into divisions

  • AWESOME!

cuz i kno some korean :D

  • lol well im not really that fluent still learning =like any asian language like japanese and korean there is a formal way of speaking we call that honorific in most terms basically honorific is greeting to somebody that u dunno or seniors/elders but it will be too long to post so basics Yes - Ye(sometime u will hear it like Ne) No - Anio/Hello - Annyeong-haseyo/Good-Bye - Annyong-hi gyeseyo or Annyeong-hi gaseyo/Thank You - Gomapseumnida/You're Welcome - Cheonmaneyo/Excuse Me - Sillyehamnida

  • im still learnin too. i dont wanna take korean classes but i think i shoud. i rly wanna kno how to speak korean. *sigh* well thanks neways!

  • i can tell you right now that korean is waaay more easier than chinese xDD the writing is way more simpler, like english but about 2 more characteres but hey at least its not like chinese..having to learn to memorized a billion characters lol

  • lol agreed, chinese is just like @.@ basically...i know cantonese (can read a lil and write a lil -_-) english, japanese (not fluent but im ok XD), korean in process, so yea :/ I would rather continue with my studies in korean...i find it much easier if u know japanese or korean (one or the other), learning the other will come naturally to you XD thatz my views :P

  • mhmm! im learning my korean too and about my comment last time i meant 20..xD not 2 lol)

  • i'm chinese, goin 2 b 13 in may this yr, but i liv in singapore n is sm going to haf audition's in Malaysia? If so, i can go. Im plannin 2 try out 4 actin.

  • they had one last year right? im not sure if they are gonna have one again this year but i know lots and lots of people want sm to come again lol and good luck!!

  • uhh.. note.. if you hadn't notice.

    you spell "Entertainment" wrong ;]

  • personally, I think it's a waste of time to try out for SM audition if you know that you're not going to make it. Some people like to try it for fun and some people really want to be a super star.. I mean, SM Audition isn't the only place they can sign up for.

  • That is why if you truly feel good about it, then you audition.

  • well itz within a month time and the earliest you would know is 2 weeks AFTER all the auditions and therez also the Malaysia, thailand and taiwan as well. First to know - Dance audition (new trainees), then the rest idk but for sure i know artist/singer auditions are close to last for results, basically the 30 second freestyle at the end also is a small evaluation for any and counts quite alot to see if u can adapt to any sort of circumstance/music style.

  • if ur asking how do i know? my friend (auditioned for dance) and got in but took 3 week notice, took her audition in Vancouver (oct 14) so it might be later for some people since they're completing the pile up for the toronto ones. They only select the maximum of 4-8 people in 1 region so chances might be slim

  • Can you explain the 30second freestyle please? =)

And for dance, do they teach you a dance other than the original one you made?

I will be auditioning next year and HOPEFULLY I don't choke or else I'll beat myself up for it the whole year until the next x__x

  • the 30 second freestyle is right after your main audition -> this is the test out if you can adapt to any situation no matter what music they pick (for ours it was Fat Joe Get It Poppin') and no they dont teach you. The best way to prepare is just by practicing some dance moves more of pop locks and such then just normally blend a basic choreography together.

  • The location for Vancouver this year i heard was pretty bad compared to 2006 (one of the sm staff said) the room was cramped so it was kinda hard to fit 10 people at first it was 20 then they cut it to 10 yet the room could only fit 5 lol...Dancing make sure YOU DONT STOP if u just stand there ull be mostly picked out first unless YOUR REALLY good at singing or at ur appeal

  • wow thanks for all the advice! i want to audition next year for the la or orange county audition.

  • they'll post 2008 schedule when it's near the time to audition. like 2007, the didnt post unil august. the 2007 auditions have been over for about a month. im not sure if anyone has been called back yet.

  • suckc i would have went but i am too mixed.

  • wait i don't get it how come on the smtown website it only posted the info for 2006 not 2007 ahhhhh aren't they suppose to ubdate it or are they saying 06 is 07? ahhhh i hope they hold one in 2008 cuz i am sure gonna go but how can i go if they don't post the correct year? can someone help me :)

  • Don't worry they will :) They are going to hold auditions every year I think.

  • WAHH!!!! no fair! sm auditions aren't in AUSTRALIA!!
