Jon carin is amazing, unsung hero of Floyd for the past 24 years.. Playing Keyboards, guitars, singing.. Also the only musician to play on all of Roger & David's 2006 shows, sometimes playing the same song but different interpretations for both shows.. Incredibly versatile musician...
I was there!!! I was only 13 but i still remember sheep and it's one of my all time favourite Pink Floyd songs, especially the epic rolling guitar riff half way through!!!
hehe they grabbed the mic from roger before the final mastering and effects - thats not how it would sound to the audience :P anyway, he is a G O D. Rip Mr. Wright btw, you will be missed a lot :(
everyone just shut up...there could of never been a Floyd without EITHER Waters or Gilmour....period...a band ia band and none of us really know the inner politics between them. rock on
Great song, not as good as the studio version in my opinion, but still very nice. Something what I like better about RW is that he picks challenging songs to play, like Dogs in his previous tour and now Sheep. Unfortunately David Gilmour often plays the same songs over and over again throughout the years.
Not to mention Waters isn't playing the bassline right at all. He is playing very lazy. I understand you are old Roger but theres never an excuse for lazy playing. Heck i think the old Roger would agree with me on that.
async and not masterbus recorded, there are some channels missing e.g. the synth which comes in every end of the textline. Additional FX on the voice of roger.. but anyway, thats a good quality. the flying pig is missing this was great!
Roger is the great master of Pink Floyd!!! I had a great opportunity to see him in Rio, playing @ Apoteose!!! Unique show!!! Amazing!!! Unforgettable!!!
easily one of the best arena shows I have seen in the last five years (Oakland 6/19/07). He is a rock icon. If you have a chance to see this show don't pass it up.
Just saw Roger last night in ottawa Ont Canada. Was better than awesome!! He's still got it at 63 HEIGHTENED EVERY SENSE POSSIBLE his music and voice were both bang on Hope there will be a Dvd to follow 2007 world tour.
Cheers for the upload. Shame it cuts off at the end, that last guitar part is the best bit!! lol Saw Roger and the band last night at Earl's Court and his voice was a lot better. This was my favourite song along with 'Any Colour You Like' from DSOTM.
i saw roger at nec in birmingham he was not miming but like all singers they use all aids open to them.Listen to the pulse DVD im sure Gilmour has a back up or am i a paronoid? if you want to hear a great singer listen to jim reeves if you want to hear a great VOCALIST listen to ROGER WATERS
This album has got to be one of the most meaningful political statements, on a massive scale, the music industry has ever produced. "Pigs on a wing"...brilliant! One of my all time favorites in both musical and lyrical genius. Both awsome and chilling to behold.
wow i like how they keep the guitar players in the dark even though they are what drove that entire album i aint diggin the bass being the main instrument
I think if he did he'd probably decline the offer, because of his political stance, and I'd imagine he'd some criticism to the British Monarchy, in fact I don't think he even lives in the UK anymore in protest, but I don't know. Buy your right he is the best poet of his generation. David Gilmour should get one for his charity work, he has already received a OBE.
I'm so sick and tired of everyone bashing Roger cause he can't sing like he did when he was 30...well, lets see you yell the way he did when your 60...I think he does a damn good job.
But to think that he wasn't singing most of the words, or that he is not playing the instruments that he is holding is retarted. You will note that he only puts his hands in the air when he goes to play a note like an A (which is an ope string note) in Comfortably Numb, that is when he puts his hands in the air.
Just so you know, Norbert Satchel confirmed on Roger Waters's In The Flesh tour that there some pre-recorded vocals to help him out. One obvious example is the scream in The Gunner's Dream, and I am going to guess that the "train" of the "riding the gravy train" in have a cigar was prerecorded, too.
IMHO Roger Waters could lip-sync the entire show if he wants and I'd still love it and go and buy the DVD afterwards. We're lucky he's touring at all. He definitely doesn't have to prove his talent at this point.
but he isnt (if he is) lip synching on eclipse. the rumors tell that the lipsynching is on Have A Cigar, Fletcher Memorial Home, Gunners Dream on Rock In Rio, Time, and Sheep.
I've posted a comment above about 'Have a Cigar' ... he's not lip synching as I was in the 6th row and his mic didn't work ... we heard him ... when they turned it on it was clear it was his voice coming through.
ok i have proof hes not lip syncing (this was a big deal to me.) Just watched two bootlegs of "eclips" at shows taped about 2 weeks a part and right away one of then he starts a little flat and he says "all that you see" very quickly. In the other he sings it regular time and less off key. Took 2 minutes to debunk this rumour. If he does lip sync a couple parts cuz of effects on his voice i dont care as long as hes really singing most of the time.
hes not necessarily lip syncing the video is clearly like half a second ahead of the music. You can tell for sure during the closeup of the drum roll right before he starts singing. You see him smack the cymbals and then afterwards you hear the crash. I think if they prerecorded his voice hed sound a lot better too! A good way to tell would bew to find a couple performances on here and see if his voice sounds exactly the same. Ima do that now.
I think he's singing it really well, considering the release date of Animals. Have you heard his voice on Amused to Death? Magnificent album, but boy, his larynx hasn't half been put through the mangle.
What's your favourite track on that album? Personally (and this after a lot of listens) I like What God Wants part 3. Great climax when the guitar comes in.
I like 'Three Wishes' right now ... it changes every week. First it was 'The Bravery of Being Out of Range' and then it was 'Watching TV' ... Great music, I hope he tours it before he gets too old.
I'm not surprised it changes every week. It sounds different every time you listen to it. That's the secret of good music. I can't imagine him getting too old to do anything. He seems to have aged better than the rest of Pink Floyd. He was really ugly in the sixties.
Do you remember when David Gilmour used to look like an angel? Really good looking. He looks strange now, what with his pot belly and bald head, so does Nick Mason. Rick Wright hasn't changed at all, save for his hair turning the colour of snow.
You are so right, he was stunning. I read in Nick's book that he did some modeling before becoming a musican. He did underwear ads! He is 60 now ... but Roger is 63! Lifestyles I guess ... Roger has been single more! Ha ha ...
Very good point. I'm divorced now, and I look 14. By the way, I read Nick's book as well, thoroughly enjoyed it. It prompted me to give Syd Barrett's music a second chance, so I went out and bought 'Piper at the Gates of Dawn'. Some of it's nonsense, but a lot of it is quite charming. Have you heard it?
Piper at the Gates of Dawn is Floyd's debut album. BTW, my favourite CD by Floyd is the Final Cut, especially the title track. People here in UK seem to disagree with me. In fact they even go so far as to say that Gilmour rescued Floyd after the Final Cut. To me, that's bloody nonsense! A Momentary Lapse of Reason is an awful album. David Gilmour has a beautiful voice, and he is THE definitive Floyd lead guitarist without question. But he can't write songs for shit! Agreed?
I have heard Piper ... it's fun '60's stuff ... I have A Saucer full of Secrets too. As for the Gilmour led Floyd, I am not totally pleased with the lyical content, but I am a Roger Waters fan! I can't get enough of anything he wrote and hope for more.
do any of you guys think its a good idea to not listend to any Pink Floyd music weeks before the tour? so when you go itle sound better and fresh? Note: this is coming from a fan who knows every PF song by heart.
9/17: Great show: FIRST HALF: In The Flesh, Mother, Set The Controls For the Heart Of The Sun, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Have A Cigar, Wish You Were Here, Southampton Dock, The Fletcher Memorial Home, Perfect Sense parts 1 and 2, Leaving Beirut, Sheep.
SECOND HALF: Dark Side of the Moon. ENCORE: The Happiest Days Of Our Lives, Another Brick In The Wall (Pt 2), Vera, Bring the Boys back Home, Comfortably Numb.
too true, the dynamic is perfect eh, although if anyone is going to see him in the US this month, I assure you that he will utterly blow you and anyone else away..
Don't we all ... maybe ... hell froze over for the Eagles. It's up to Gilmour as Roger Waters has publicly stated he would do it and he asked both Gilmour and Wright to do The Dark Side of the Moon tour. Mason was there for the key shows (which I saw one of).
He didn't lipsync for christ sake...for those that think he did...give the Animals album a listen...and you'll see that he is singing a lot different than he is here...granted he was younger back then but for fucks sake...he is NOT lip syncing....Roger ain't a sell out.
I've seen alot of videos on Utube where the sound wasn't directly in sync with the video...probably an error that occurs during upload....at any rate, I think Roger would be the last person in the entertainment industry to even consider lip syncing to a live show.
Is anyone else disturbed that Roger is not playing bass guitar OR singing this tour? They have his parts recorded and hes just whispering/grunting the whole bit through. 0 people who worked writing this song are playing it right now.
He was doing both at the show I saw him at ... I know because he was standing right in front of me for three separate instances @ Shoreline. He came up the sides and stood and played right in front of several people!
How could he stand infront of you while singing? His microphone is stage center, so I doubt you 'saw' him actually singing. I havn't seen his latest tour but he is always throwing both of his arms in the air while someone or something is still playing the bass line. There is a video of Roger performing The Gunner's Dream (on YouTube) which you can clearly hear two of Roger's voices. One is loud and clear and the other is respective to his mouth - soft and horse.
Well, at Hollywood Bowl, the 8th, I was 6 rows back in the center, right in front of him, and he was singing and playing bass. His mic didn't work for the first few lines of 'Have a Cigar' and we all heard him. He was horse by the end of the show. At the Shoreline show on the 10th he wasn't singing when he came up the ramps but playing his bass and smiling at all of us who congregated in front of him. He did the opening bars of 'Money' ... that's how I know he was playing.
wtf is with everyone who claims that roger was lip syncing during this concert. anyone with ears can tell hes not. has anyone else heard this rumor cause i think its complete bullshit. I love roger...pink floyd is my favorite band. i love sheep...its the my favorite off of animals (the most underrated album in history). its got a really easy bassline, that i play in my band. anyways, great video. i cant wait till he comes to massachussetts in august...ill be in the front row!
I know for a fact that he wasn't at the Shoreline Show because he cut all of the lines short. Plus it sounded different than the show at Hollywood Bowl two days prior.
I agree. So much better than DSOTM and WYWH. I really like the Final Cut as well. It seems that my taste is really strange to other people, because I think that 'A Momentary Lapse of Reason' is the biggest load of pretentious bollocks ever written/performed/recorded. Crap, so it is. David Gilmour has a great voice, and is an amazing lead guitarist, but he CANNOT write music.
He is totally lip syncing here.

You didn't think Gilmour's tunes were bad as well? I agree. I am very much a Roger Waters fan, before Pink Floyd, and certainly before David Gilmour.

What about the Final Cut, one of the most moving songs of all time?

too true, the dynamic is perfect eh, although if anyone is going to see him in the US this month, I assure you that he will utterly blow you and anyone else away..

Don't we all ... maybe ... hell froze over for the Eagles. It's up to Gilmour as Roger Waters has publicly stated he would do it and he asked both Gilmour and Wright to do The Dark Side of the Moon tour. Mason was there for the key shows (which I saw one of).

thank you codyguitarsrv. good to see someone actually agrees with me!

He didn't lipsync for christ sake...for those that think he did...give the Animals album a listen...and you'll see that he is singing a lot different than he is here...granted he was younger back then but for fucks sake...he is NOT lip syncing....Roger ain't a sell out.
codyguitarsrv 5 years ago
I've seen alot of videos on Utube where the sound wasn't directly in sync with the video...probably an error that occurs during upload....at any rate, I think Roger would be the last person in the entertainment industry to even consider lip syncing to a live show.
elkhounds 5 years ago
Well, I saw Roger in London's Hyde Park and you will not be disappointed.

seems to me the sound was going 2 fast on the video, thats all. roger miming seems pretty unlikely to me.

In The Flesh DVD was so amazing, I'm begging to see more pink floyd (and water's) classics on high quality production like that one.

Is anyone else disturbed that Roger is not playing bass guitar OR singing this tour? They have his parts recorded and hes just whispering/grunting the whole bit through. 0 people who worked writing this song are playing it right now.
LoozerJustin 5 years ago
He was doing both at the show I saw him at ... I know because he was standing right in front of me for three separate instances @ Shoreline. He came up the sides and stood and played right in front of several people!
ginamina28 5 years ago
How could he stand infront of you while singing? His microphone is stage center, so I doubt you 'saw' him actually singing. I havn't seen his latest tour but he is always throwing both of his arms in the air while someone or something is still playing the bass line. There is a video of Roger performing The Gunner's Dream (on YouTube) which you can clearly hear two of Roger's voices. One is loud and clear and the other is respective to his mouth - soft and horse.
LoozerJustin 5 years ago
Well, at Hollywood Bowl, the 8th, I was 6 rows back in the center, right in front of him, and he was singing and playing bass. His mic didn't work for the first few lines of 'Have a Cigar' and we all heard him. He was horse by the end of the show. At the Shoreline show on the 10th he wasn't singing when he came up the ramps but playing his bass and smiling at all of us who congregated in front of him. He did the opening bars of 'Money' ... that's how I know he was playing.
ginamina28 5 years ago
Did you even go to any of these show??? Watching the delayed tapes from here tells you nothing! I guess your name pretty much explains it.
ginamina28 5 years ago
wtf is with everyone who claims that roger was lip syncing during this concert. anyone with ears can tell hes not. has anyone else heard this rumor cause i think its complete bullshit. I love roger...pink floyd is my favorite band. i love sheep...its the my favorite off of animals (the most underrated album in history). its got a really easy bassline, that i play in my band. anyways, great video. i cant wait till he comes to massachussetts in august...ill be in the front row!
viper722 5 years ago
I know for a fact that he wasn't at the Shoreline Show because he cut all of the lines short. Plus it sounded different than the show at Hollywood Bowl two days prior.

Animals is one of the best Floyd albums ever. Thanks.

I agree. So much better than DSOTM and WYWH. I really like the Final Cut as well. It seems that my taste is really strange to other people, because I think that 'A Momentary Lapse of Reason' is the biggest load of pretentious bollocks ever written/performed/recorded. Crap, so it is. David Gilmour has a great voice, and is an amazing lead guitarist, but he CANNOT write music.
alphabetgreen 5 years ago
Final Cut is also one of my favs. People just have to remember Rick Wright's quote: 'the floyd is bigger than all of us..' They are multifacetied!
