Hi, I've seen a few other comments on H-Du vids which refer to "Greg Ginn". Mind me asking, what's that all about? I always thought his name was Norton. Did he change his name or what?
One of the best; was at this gig on spec then rushed out and got 'Flip Your Wig'. Never the same since! One of THE bands, period. Oh yeh, Hi RewindThatTape. Greg Ginn refers to Black Flag's guitarist...
Count me as another who's also been interested in Grant's drumming... I'm a drummer myself and he definitely does have one of the most unique styles I've ever seen. He's pretty limited but definitely powerful, probably keeps it simple so he can do vocals too perhaps?? In any case he's fucking rad!!
Great observations about Grant's unique style. If you listen to Land Speed Record and the earliest DU releases you can see how he evolved, starting as an amateur (in true punk fashion.) I was always struck by his never using the high hat too! Plus, his single foot pedal work is pretty amazing in terms of being able to keep up straight fast kicks like in Diane etc. There are many hardcore drummers out there who couldn't keep that going as long as he...
Thanks! I love this song, although I actually think they played it too fast here--it lost some of the power and dynamics of the Zen Arcade version. But give Grant Hart a ton of credit for keeping it up; he's a criminally underappreciated drummer.
Yeah grant's a very unique drummer. He'd be hard to copy. He never uses his hi-hat, he just treats it as just another set of cymbals which i always thought was strange.
One of the greatest bands of all time just playing around.

Greg Ginn was the guitarist for Black Flag, probably one of the most influential punk guitarists to date.

Yeah. Grant is a unique drummer. The way he is using the ride cymbal inspired me alot. He's a really steady drummer too.
