It's proven that the 9 overlord is actually the best economic position to be in, not the extractor trick. However, if you wanted to 9 overlord but built a drone instead of an overlord accidentally, and find yourself at 10/10, then the best way to catch up is to build an overlord at 10/10 and THEN extractor trick. An exception is when you're 6 or 7 pooling, in which case use the trick.

So in a normal game, just 9 overlord, it's better. Although sometimes I like to extractor because it's fun.

TIP: from a fellow zerg player.

watch your drone count it looked like you had way too many,if you have too many drones, sure you will have a good economy,but you cant have as big of a force. in your protoss match up if the blink stalkers where there to back up that push it would have gone a lot differently.

Actively spread more creep.by the end of the game you should have creep knocking at his doorstep. its demoralizing to other players as well as giving you vision as well as a speed advantage

also remember to watch your replays, whether you win or lose. im sure you watch all of your replays but it will show you holes in not only your gameplay but your opponents as well. this can allow to better recognize those holes and exploit them during a match.

@Mcharris1990 I actually hate 2/3rd of my matchups when I was toss (pvp and pvt), now that I switched to zerg I hate zvz and zvt. Mirror matchups are never fun, and fighting a race you haven't figured out yet is also frustrating as hell. Only playing well and getting new strats will make you like the match up more.

TB, don't want to bother you, but just wanna perhaps help with a few quick tips since I also play Zerg:

1) You usually want to stop and postpone mining gas after initial 100 to achieve better drone count. It's never good to have low mins/high gas early game

2) Macro hatch around 6:00 is often a good idea, especially if you rely on speedlings

3) After you make a queen at your nat, immediately start producing another one. Use it for creep spread initially and then for injecting the macro hatch

TB you should watch Psystarcraft. he's great at teaching zerg. im platinum & have learned about most of my play styles from him. ive learned some tips from him about about zvz. put at lest 3 overlords between your base & his so you can see units coming your way very quickly & nothing can shoot them down until mutas or queens with really good creep spread. also make about 5 roaches early to defend your expansion because roaches are super good at defense early game.

I doubt this will ever get to you TB, but i noticed something that may help you out. When you create buildings from drones which were formerly in use mining, you may be losing the minerals they are carrying. I don't knot if this is negligible or even true, but if it is then it may help.

You don't have to be top 8 to get promoted. You just need either x amount of points (I think 700 for silver?) or a really high MMR.
