  • I'm ACTUALLY a hair dresser and have been for 10yr and I'm also a "mixed chic" who actually has a Brazilian blowout and it's the best thing I've ever had done to my hair. When OSHA first tested Brazilian blowout they tested it wrong and this case has recently been settled and they admitted they were wrong... Come on let's be realistic... Has anyone heard of anyone dying due to a Brazilian blowouts???? Tons of people where gloves and mask in the beauty field.... Nail techs wear masks and nail po

  • @adeannlew I don't think her point whether someone would die or not, her point was that the brazilian blowout was not "natural" treatment for those who have natural hair that are considering it. However, it would be considered to be a "chemical treatment" that alters the hair for an extended period of time, 6 months., For examples, some naturals get a domican blowout but there are no chemicals involved and it last for 2-3 weeks not 6 months Oh, and mynail tech doesn't wear a mask

  • @adeannlew are you lying or just misinformed? recently, GIB LLC were forced to change the labeling of Brazilian Blowout Acai Smoothing Solution and Brazilian Blowout Professional Smoothing Solution because THEY DO CONTAIN formaldehyde! its a personal choice, and while i'm sure your hair does look and feel great, propagating GIB LLC's lies and deception is unethical. people should make informed decisions and not be persuaded by salons and companies by persuasions based on lies.

  • No one is about to pay 200 for hair treatment that could be potentially dangerous

  • Actually you should put gloves on for relaxers too, that's y they come in the box. But dont have too

  • it has preservatives in it because it is full of animal protein. it would go rancid if it didnt have a preservatives like formaldahyde or glutaraldehyde. I am a health care provider - as a client its not really dangerous to be exposed to it once or twice a year, but the stylist are really taking a risk and need to mask up.

  • I just heard about brazillian blowout today 10/30/11 on a radio news segment. So I searched youtube and found this. If this isn't a reason for me as a relaxed hair lady to go natural nothing will convince me.thanks so much for your input. Wow

  • Great video

  • oh wow..lol. formaldehyde is used to preserve cats or any other animals for dissection in anatomy classes. it REEKS ad stains so easily.

  • wow! this video just helped me make my decision on whether or not to keep my appt for the blowout.. i'm going to just change from the blowout to a wash & deep condition. i made the appt 2 wks ago and was excited BUT something didnt sit well with me about it and i had been going back and forth with myself for this treatment. i am just learning how to care for my hair and embrace it and i luv it but from time to time would like it to not be so frizzy. any suggestions about frizz control?

  • You should have went shaneh_neh on her azz and be like"BYTCH DO WHAT THE PHUCK I ASK YOU TO DO, GOT DAMN IT" lol I'm just playin....that's why I don't go to shops anymore doe.

  • things I hate to hear "it'll make your curls looser" "i like your hair better straight" and "I like mixed peoples hair better"

what I love hearing "can I touch it" "whoa I didn't know your hair was that long" and "I like what you've done with your hair"

  • There are some brazilian keratin treatments that are formaldehyde free!...

  • I think you had a bad experience when being introduced to the process, I've done some research myself and have found that with certain products, there are more risks than with others. There are different brands with different levels of certain ingredients or different ingredients. I myself have not yet had so much as a perm or even colored my hair, but am considering this because my hair is so much work.

As far as the cancer causing chemical mentioned, there is less than one one thousandth perc

  • Thank you for taking the time to share all your videos. I really appreciate your tips and advice. God Bless and congratulations on your little ray of sunshine.

  • Not getting the Brazilian Blow out or anything. Way tooooo high priced !! Hmmmmm!! We need more Salons for African American Hair. I'd rather spend my money on food LOL lol !!

  • These people want to sell anything to woman. There are such great risk! Are the health risks worth a few months of straight hair. Fumes!???!! Thank you for informing us.

  • I didn't know that you were pregnant. I am so glad you and your son are healthy and happy. God bless you both. Congrats.

  • @DPrincess28 thank you so much for explaining this. I also saw the expo on television about it and will not be using it for that main fact. I know that people say that there are different types, however, I agree that anything that alters the state of your hair, has to have some "type" of chemical in it, whether the ingredient is listed or not. There are some things that are not listed on products for the very purpose of misleading consumers. Thank you again. Great video!

  • They now have different Brazilian Blowouts that have NO formaldehyde. If you get it, just ask to look at the bottle and make sure it has no formaldehyde in it.

  • If you purchase the acai zero formula it is formaldehyde free. Plus this works Waaayyy better than a relazer. But again it is your choice.

  • @lprdgds even the formadehyde free ones have formaldehyde in them...the US government has done some research lately and found out the companies who claim their products are formaldehyde free have up to 8-10% formladehyde in them

  • I feel the exact Sam about the Brazilian blowout... Do you mind if I link this video to my blog?

  • @DPrincess28 you should do a video on Bio-Keratin or Keratin Treatments. My moms friend is transitioning like me and told me about it. Ive tried to do research but I cant find much. Please look into it.

Thanks, Love your videos ive already subscribed! =)

  • My hair is long (down my back), curly, and I have tons of it.

I did the blowout 2 months ago, and I LOOOOOOOVE it. My hair has never looked or felt this gorgeous. Silky, bouncy and flowy. And so shiny.

At first the smell was not too good. But now the brand has created a new line called Zero. Already have an appointment in 4 weeks. Will let you guys know how it looks.

  • Brazilian blowout, just another "LYE". Thanks for your input DPrincess28! If folk wanna loosen their curl pattern, just color it or use a henna. That's all the chemical you need. I'm like you, I wanna stay away from stuff that takes away my curl. Even coloring, I do sparingly, but the "platinums" are taking over, lol.

  • i am very glad i saw this video :) i just recently just thinned my hair out...... it has fixed my styling needs. Great video as well.

  • thank you

i knew that brazilian blowout was crap

i've seen a few videos on it and it practically makes curly hair straight

as far as i'm concerned, it is an unhealthy chemical and you may as well not go natural if you're gonna use it

  • was your hair already curly before u decided to relax it?

  • Thanks so much for the info....I started to feel like I was crazy. It is not natural and apparently even after 6 months you will not get your hair pattern back.

    Thanks again for the info.

    M.

  • Brazilian blow-outs reminds me of that product from way back that was suppose 2 be a natural way of straightening but people's hair was fallin out! Can't remember the name but Debbie Allen use to be on the infomercial.

My girlfriend tried it but after watching today show & GMA sponsor a news spot on this I would not do the brazilian blow out!

    Good info for the ladies!

  • @naturallybison the product you're referring to is called Rio it was advertised in the 90s, and there was a class action suit brought against them, that I think is still going on to this day. The Brazilian blow out definitely sounds like another Rio type product to me! It’s a shame the FDA just let’s people claim something is natural, all women go out and get these “treatments,” and end up slam bald with cancer. I’m good on the Brazilian blow out…lol

  • @leenaturally

YEP THAT'S IT RIO!!! I was young & contemplated gettin it glad I didnt :)

I'll stick 2 the press & curl if I want 2 go straight no BRAZILIAN over here either!

  • Congrats on the birth of your son!

I have a Brazilian Keratin Treatment, and I have done it about 8 times. It does not last 6 months at all. At the most it lasts 2-3 months on natural hair. I use Rejuvenol collagen formula. It's not natural, it has formaldehyde in it. I was never told by my stylist that it was all natural. In my opinion, the fumes are not that bad for Rejuvenol or Lasio but they can be horrible for other brands. Marcia T chocolate brand had me in tears.

  • congrats and thanks for tellin me bout that cuz im natural but i want to losen my curl pattern and the only way i think i can do that is by gettin a CHILDS texturizer.. im not scarred to get a perm again (i had got one a long time ago that broke all my hair out..1year and 7 months post) its just who does it that im afraid of.. and ive grown to like my natural hair do u have n e suggestions?

  • congrats on your baby boy! welcome 2 mommyhood!

  • Thanks for the info...I hope you are enjoying motherhood.

God bless you and your family.

  • Brazilian Blowout is NOT good!!!! they are being sued by the state of California for false advertisement, I guess the bottle states it is "formaldehyde free" and it obviously isnt. Im so glad that you didnt get it done, especially since you were pregnant at the time.

  • Great video. My former stylist offered this "natural" treatment , but I did my research. One great resource I found is a blog called In the Lab with Dr. Syed that addresses the BKT.

  • great video! not sure if you've seen reviews on the news, but they've shown salons using industrial gas masks! there is no way i would put anything in my hair that I and the salon styllist needs a gas mask that looks like it came from a soldier in Iraq! God bless those that get it, but soo not for me!

  • thanks for this vid because i honestly thought it was like a dominican blowout as well...very interesting!!

  • Canada has recently banned the brazilian blowout. scientists have tested even the ones that was suppose to be formaldehyde free and they still have formaldehyde in it.

  • congrats on the baby

  • Congrats on the baby!

I had never heard of the brazillian blowout before just now. I am definitely not getting one.

  • Congrats on your baby boy!! LOL @ surgical masks! What tha what! no thank you and I am mad that she asked a PREGNANT woman to try this treatment....smh

  • I asked my stylist today about the Brazilian Blowout and she actually stopped doing my hair, walked in front of me, and said "NO". She told me not to think about it, not to ask about it, and never get it. If someone was offering Brazilian Blowouts leave their salon ASAP. I just laughed and said ok.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • Congrats on your baby boy!

  • There are some Brazilian Keratin treatments that are formaldehyde free. There are a lot of different brands. The one I have requires no gloves or masks to be applied. Nonetheless, I don't think that stylist should have been recommending you get that treatment done while you were pregnant considering that the one they offered required gas masks. That's terrible, unless she was suggesting you get it done after you had birth. Anyway, congrats on your baby! Thanks for the info.

  • Thanks for sharing! Congrats on your beautiful brown baby boy! :-)

  • Congratulations on your new baby boy. God bless.

  • Congratulations on the baby!!!

  • Oh, hunni....no way! The fact there had to be masks and prep says enough. Then, it lasing 6 months, SMH! Thanks for the info.

Congrats on the babyboy!!! I'm glad you're both happy and healthy.

  • Congrats on your new addition. Many blessings! :)

  • Congrats on your new addition. Many blessings! :)

  • lmao@"If it's natural...why are you practically wearing a gas mask?"

Congrats on your little one Doll and thanks for sharing about the blowouts.

  • @TheCurlvixen

    I wanna say two thinks...

1: DPrincess28 don't go to that salon because the combs, brushes and sink still have the poison on it and your a beautiful girl so people (woman) don't always have the best interest, why you go to salons anyway and let other people touch your hair it's not a good thing

    and...

2: Brazilian Blowout's are known to bald people and make the hair grow slowlely or on some places on the scalp not at all!!! so please people don't do it!

  • Stylist need to educate themselves!!

  • Congrats on the baby!! NYT article on Brazilian Blowouts. They talk about stylists having nosebleeds, all the crazy fumes and the high levels of formalin and formaldehyde.

  • Thank you for the video. very informative. congrats

  • Thanks for the information on the Brazilian blow out.

  • Congrats on your son! October babies are the best! I was born in October, and tell him he'll be a lil heart breaker if his zodiac sign is a scorpio on top of that! :-)

  • Thanks for the heads up on Brazilian blowouts...

  • Congratulations on your new baby boy! I just gave birth last week to a beautiful baby girl so yay us!! You and your hair both look great!

  • Congrats on your little blessing, and thanks for this video. You learn something new everyday.

  • awwwwwwwwww congratulations on ur new bundle of joy ~_~

  • congrats on the baby

  • One of the ingredients in the Brazilian Blowout is "Glutaraldehyde" google it....if some of you still believe it's chemical free. Either way it's your choice but, it's better to be informed.

  • CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

  • thanks for the information and you look GREAT!!!

  • Very informative thank you

  • congrats

  • That is so wonderful. Congrats on your bundle of joy.

  • aaaww.. congrats

  • Congrats on the baby boy!! Can't wait to see your journey as a new mommy. You were right not to just "take her word for it". I can't stand when you go into a salon and they try to pressure you into to getting a certain treatment.

  • Congrats and God Bless! :)

  • Congratulations on the arrival of your baby boy!

    Folliclephile

  • Congratulations and welcome back! =)

  • your hair keeps getting bigger and fuller lovely

  • So funny you did this video because I just got the Marcia Texteira Keratin Daily Conditioner and used it and it temporarily loosens my curls. Its not the treatment at all but I am curious about what makes it do that...my hair likes it so I hope its not harmful.

  • @corkscrewcurls88 I just looked up each ingredient in the daily conditioner and nothing seems harmful...definitely no Methylene glyco (or formaldehyde).

  • Thanks so much for the information...glad I watched this video.

  • you are a gorgeous mommy!! Congrats! again--I would never even think of damaging my hair w/that stufff and the amount of heat that they use is crazy!! no thx, its not for me.

  • you are a gorgeous mommy!! Congrats! again

  • so is the dominican blowout better or does it contain chemicals as well?

  • Congratulations on your baby boy, I am glad that you and baby are healthy. Is a Brazilian Blowout the same thing as a BKT Brazilian Keratin Treatment? Because I heard that BKT's contain formaldehyde as well. I would not get one, I am already relaxed, that's enough chemicals for me.

  • Congrats on your baby boy and God Bless you and your family...

  • Congratulations on your baby boy!!

  • I've heard about Brazilian blowouts & thought that is a brazilian way of straightening hair. I never considered it, however I did wonder how it was conducted. I am SO GLAD that you did not listen to this woman. My hair will barely stay straight after 6 days, how in the world will something make it straight for 6months and not be a chemical?! I would have been mortified to have heard her say, "its not a chemical" yet she's protecting herself with a mask. Utterly ridiculous. And cancerous??? MM!

  • Congrats on your baby boy! :-)

PLEASE READ DON'T GET A BRAZILIAN BLOW OUT! I live in the U.K and it has been banned it contains the same chemical that is used to embalm/preserve dead bodies! it has caused skin rashes and respiratory problems, not sure what chemicals that they use in the U.S but research before hand!

  • congrats on the baby boy!

  • congrats on your new baby :) I heard the same thing about the formaldehyde form a friend who lives in new york. great info.

  • Congrats!

  • congrats on your baby..

  • Congrats on your new bundle of joy!!!

  • Congrats! That's so nice to know you have a healthy baby. Congrats again! Thanks for sharing.

  • Congrats on your new addition. Wow, had no idea about Brazilian blowouts. Good thing you trusted your instincts!

  • I am so glad you did this video!!! First congrats on the baby boy. I just knew you were going to have a girl. But I'm like you when I heard about the b/b I thought that sounds a little dangerous. I thought about the Rio from years past. A lot of people fell into that and lost their hair. Let's be informed people. Thanx for keeping us up.

  • Hey girl! First, congratulations on your new baby. You are blessed. I was actually researching the brazilian blowout on the yt last week and I found the "conditioning treatment" to have to be a chemical treatment.

  • Congratulation !!!!

  • If the stylist has to wear gloves and a mask.......caution, warning, don't do it.

  • lol That's crazy I though this was a different technique using some fancy blow dryer. Little did I know.

  • Oh and my mother and I were talking about the Brazilian, Egyptian, Dominican blowouts a few months back too. We wondered if they were the same. I knew of some folks who had tried the Dominican blowout, but not the other two. A couple weeks later, Robin, on Good Morning America, did a piece on the Brazilian blowout. And sure enough they had said they same things you said re: what was found in the "conditioning" product that was said to be "natural". That's why you always have to do your research.

  • Congrats on your new bundle of joy!

  • congrats!!!! I'm so happy you had a successful pregnancy!!

  • Aww congratulations! And thanks for that information.

  • ohhh my goodness, it has FORMALDEHYDE in it??? That's crazyyyy!!!! ahhhh!

well here's still wishing you & your growing family much Peace & many blessings from God! :-)

It's always nice to see another vid from you!!!! You must be SOOO busy now! :-)

  • Thanks for your input now we know ! Also do you still trim your hair in the twist as shown in last years video..& Congrats on your new family:) Stay blessed!

  • Congratulations, I 'd love to see your bundle of love.

  • I believe that your hairstylist assumed that you wanted your curls loosen because of the stigma in the African American community. I have heard that the Brazilian treatment is a chemical treatment, and stylists have "conditioned" people to believe that it is not a chemical. But it is a chemical. This is why I do not go to the salon often, only for me to get my hair trimmed. When I learn this, I will stop going indefinitely.

  • i never had one and im not insterested in getting one but they have one withformaldehyde free

  • Congrats on the baby. Thanks for sharing with us. I've never heard of a BB, but will stay away in the future.

  • Congrats on the birth of your son

  • Oh congrats on you're baby boy!! I'm sure he must be a cutie!!

Anyway, what do I think of Brazilian Blowouts? I personally was never interested in it, but after hearing what you said, I'm definitely not interested, but I would like to learn more about them. So I'm going to go do some research. Thank you!!

  • Congrats lady enjoy your baby boy!

  • Congrats on your baby boy!!! Thanks for the info!

  • Congratulations on your baby boy! thanks for this info.

  • it will not let me post the link, but if you google "short hair keratin hair loss" it is the 6th post and it starts with oprah.com. really hope this helps someone as much as it helped me.

    congrats on the boy btw!

  • This is a link to the Oprah website where women talk about how they had severe hair loss due to the brazillian keratin treatment. There similar stories if you google things like "brazillian keratin hair loss". I was considering it, but I'm so glad I didn't. Many of these women have permanant or semi-permanant hair loss. There is a website (can't remember it), but it documents why this happens to some women who may be protein sensitive.

  • Yeah when I was transitioning my stylist offered that and I was like uh no my hair maintained a flat iron without ant problems and I transitioned for 22 months just fine. Congrats on the baby boy they still your hearts. I have one of each and boys are sooo protective of their moms. Enjoy him and take lots of pics b/c they chang their looks so fast

  • You're so pretty! Congrats on you baby boy! May God bless you and your whole family!

  • awesome video and congrats on the baby boy!

  • Congratz on my baby boy. Love your videos!

  • congrats on the baby... but I can't believe that you have the energy or the time to make a video... I applaud you:)

  • AWESOME welcome to Motherhood. It's an up and down roller coaster but a fun ride. I totally agree w/you about the BB. Nothing can make your hair straight w/out it having a chemical in it.

  • what about dominican blowouts are they bad too????

  • Congratulations on the healthy birth of your baby boy! You look fabulous. Love the hair. All the best to you and your family. Enjoy! Thanks for the information on the brazilian blow out because it is something I have been wondering about and I also had a stylist tell me it is a conditioning treatment.

  • is that the same as those keratin treatments in ulta?

  • Congratulations on the birth of your son!

  • i had it done...and it was horrible omg thats when i went natural

  • Thanks for the info!!! I have heard of it but never knew what it was, now Iknow to stay far a way from it! LOL

  • Good vid! Thanks for posting. :0)

  • Congrats on the baby, you look beautiful as always! Thanks for the video.

  • Congrats on your new baby boy! Thank you for your input on BB or the Keratin Treatment. I think I am just going leave my hair alone. My hair is like a texlax texture. I will love it the way it is and leave the BB alone. Its too much money anyway for the sake of my life.

  • Blessings to you and the new little member to your family.

  • Congrats.....May God continue to bless you and your baby boy!!!!

  • Congrats! you look great...

  • Congrats on the healthy baby and thank you for this info.

  • Congrats on your New Man!!! lol. Thanks for the info... I was going to a salon who promotes this alot as well. I never got one but when she told me that you have to flat iron the stuff into your hair, I was very turned off by that.

  • congrats on your baby boy...so glad u did this vid..alot of people take a stylist word as if it is written in stone and 100% correct...thanks for sharing

  • Thank you, I am so tired of people assuming that you want your hair straighter! I think the Miss Jessie got everyone dreaming of nautrally cury hair, well I got news im black and I like my naps

  • There are def different types of brazilian blowout

my hair stylist does the formaldehyde free version i'm pretty sure

no masks and u have to use sulfate free products on it so that it wont wash off of the hair quickly

it doesnt penetrate the strand..and to my understanding, it only loosens curls and makes your hair smoother, because it coats the hair and makes it heavier

thanks for the vid though and CONGRATS!!!

  • CONGRATS ON THE BABY!!!!

  • it's a keratin coating as far i understand and they have a formaldehyde free version now. that one lasts for about two months and u can't wash your hair with sulfates or it will wash out.

  • it's a keratin coating as far i understand and they have a formaldehyde free version. no?

  • DPrincess, I did this 2 years ago. I didnt' like it. I got the chocolate; "the Formaldehyde free" formula. It was supposed to make it less frizzy, give protein, and more manageable to detangle. Well my hair looked great when it was straight but when I went back to my regular hair, it was def altered and i suffered major damage. My hair is just growing back to its natural curl. I've learned to leave my hair ALONE and just let it be. No jumping on bandwagons & i'm glad u did this!

  • Congrats on your new bundle of joy! I 100% agree with what your saying. I definitely would have questioned that right from the start. There is no way that something can alter your hair like that for 6 months without some type of chemical in the mix keeping it that way.(Like a perm)! Common sense usually goes a long way because if it doesn't make sense then you must trust that instict!! Thanks for your wonderful informative post as always! Wish you and your family the best! God Bless(Smiles).

  • that is such poor form. i lived in brazil. when they get that done the stylists put the women in a sealed of ventilated room or they do it outside if it's a lower end place

  • Thanks for the vid!! Very good information and congrats on the bouncing baby boy!! :)

  • A friend of mine got that done and as she explained it all to me I told her that it was a chemical and she started feeding me the same "no, its natura" jibberish. I just let her be though. Thanks for posting this and congrats on your baby boy. =D

  • Congrats on the baby your hair is also looking lovely

  • Congrats on your baby boy! May you and your husband cherish every moment with him.

  • congratulations on the birth of your son...i myself gave birth to a little girl 6 weeks ago. many blessings to you and your family. you look great as always.

  • Hey girl where ya been, I haven't seen you in a long time. Congrats on your new baby.. Your hair looks fab!!!!!

  • I had someone tell me that nonsense while I was shopping at Ulta. It was a non black stylist that was looking at my braidout and telling me how perfect it would be for my hair. Luckily I didn't fall for the okey doke! I have 4type hair with very little curl pattern so this probably would have just made my hair straight. She told me that is was just a conditioning treatment. We all have to do out research before letting people do things to our hair.

  • Congratulations !!!

  • Congratulations on the birth of your son :D

  • congrats to you and your husband :).

  • congrats on your baby son!

  • Congratulations to you and your husband!!!

  • Congrats on your newborn son!

  • Congrats on the baby....
