You're a good guy and I appreciate your anger. I feel the same way when I see that idiot Rebecca Peters talking about how all of our guns need to be taken away. All I can say is that I will never give up my guns no matter what happens and I am relatively sure all gun owners will do the same thing. If the U.S. government wants to try and take our guns, they will have a war on their hands which they will never forget.
I believe you're exaggerating by stating that HR 45 is "Hitler-y" and "Going to destroy this country" (paraphrasing), but you're completely right in supporting HR 17 which gives power back to the victims of criminals. Criminals are always going to get their hands on weapons. And HR 45 just discourages people from owning weapons to protect them selves. The feeling on this subject does not apply to only republican "rednecks" but also to Chicanos and anyone who likes this country to regain freedom.
I just read HR 45 and I don't think it was all that bad. The only part I disagree with is time frame which the legislation set for reporting a change in address. This bill is not going to change the rate at which criminals attain weapons. The only way that would happen is if the government would physically come to your house to see if the weapons are still in the rightful hands. And even that would have problems. By just reading you can tell it's not going to help the problem at all.
This years cops came in my house without warrant and took my guns. Seems an ex-GF called them and said I was suicidal. Of course I wasn't, I tried telling the cops that, but they didn't care. After I was kidnapped from my home and a Dr at the ER said I was fine the cops just left, with my guns, and I never got them back. They said I couldn't legally own them. Except that I've bought 2 new guns since then, legally. So this just shows the cops lie, and all they want is to take your stuff.

Talked to an attorney, would have cost more to go to court to get my stuff back than the actual value of what was taken (just an ar15 and a couple 22's). The attorney did have me lodge a complaint with the agencies IAB, and also confirm the status of what they had. They did indeed have all the firearms present.
It's been well over a year since this happened, my stuff was disposed of long ago, and aside from the loss of the actual items nothing else bad came of the incident.
So, I got screwed by a pissed off ex, had my civil rights violated, found out a local detective is crooked, and got a lesson in how things work in the real world, and learned that minding your own business and staying out of trouble does not necessarily guarantee that trouble will not come looking for you.

The abuse of power and hypocrisy is disgusting. The cops took them home probably. The same way they took my K-Bars home instead of arresting me. How fucked is Massachusetts that you can't have a blade longer than 2.5 inches in your possession unless you are directly going to or coming from a hunting fishing trip? How do you prove that? And I understand about the weapon issue as well. In MD you can't have anything concealed at all (knife, mace, etc), and even if worn openly it's only legal if your intent is to not use it maliciously... but how do you PROVE intent when a cop stops you?

Going through a yellow is iffy (some will pull you over, but most won't as it's been ruled over and over that going through a yellow is not illegal). But asking for L&R is normal. You are required to provide them. All drivers must be licensed, and all vehicles registered.
Him saying you went through a red (if you did not) is wrong though. I hada LEO accuse me of not stopping at a sign before because he was not satisfied with how long I stayed stationary... but it got thrown out

Around here the first thing out of an officers mouth tends to be the reason he pulled you over. They don't ask you "do you know why...", they just say why, then ask for L&R. So I'm with you on this one. He really should have said the reason first.

I think that you are right! I am a cop and I know that I cant protect everyone at the same time. I think that everyone should have a gun. I do however believe that everyone should have to go through a gun safety class. I do not think that a person should be able to buy a gun on their 21st birthday without a certificate stating that they know how to safely handle and shoot a gun. I've been reading H.R. 17 and it looks like it's got some heavy limitations. the Bill speaks of use of firearms in defense of "self, family or house".
It basically rules out the possibility to intervene, say, in a school shooting ( while you're in the school ) to protect bystanders ( wich are not part of your family ) unless you're under fire yourself.

I own a Ruger Mk3 22/45 with modified grips ie. 1911 bushings installed and a 9mm Sig Sauer p226. I can't take them to the hayfield and enjoy them on my own property! Rush's bill would require that all guns being transferred between individuals go though a FFL dealer, and a background check being done. But according to current Illinois law, both individuals must already have valid FOID cards for any transfer to take place, and the seller must keep a record of the the transaction and all pertinent data for 10 years. To have the FOID card you must have already gone through the check and it's subject to revocation at any time if you no longer qualify.

To tell you the truth, I would much rather die fighting for something that I strongly believe in rather than dying from a mosquito bite or eating a peanut butter sandwich. To those of you out there who believe that the Second Amendment is not that important, I would say that in that case, the First Amendment and the other Amendments should not be that important to you either because once you start rewriting one, then all of the others will soon follow.

HR-45 is bullshit! How can the legislature do this after SCOTUS just ruled last year that this is an individual RIGHT? Rights are not privileges, by definition. This legislation seeks to subvert the U.S. Supreme Court & the U.S. Constitution itself by making gun ownership a mere privilege, subject to licensure, etc.

I believe you're exaggerating by stating that HR 45 is "Hitler-y" and "Going to destroy this country" (paraphrasing), but you're completely right in supporting HR 17 which gives power back to the victims of criminals. Criminals are always going to get their hands on weapons. And HR 45 just discourages people from owning weapons to protect them selves. The feeling on this subject does not apply to only republican "rednecks" but also to Chicanos and anyone who likes this country to regain freedom.

I just read HR 45 and I don't think it was all that bad. The only part I disagree with is time frame which the legislation set for reporting a change in address. This bill is not going to change the rate at which criminals attain weapons. The only way that would happen is if the government would physically come to your house to see if the weapons are still in the rightful hands. And even that would have problems. By just reading you can tell it's not going to help the problem at all.

This years cops came in my house without warrant and took my guns. Seems an ex-GF called them and said I was suicidal. Of course I wasn't, I tried telling the cops that, but they didn't care. After I was kidnapped from my home and a Dr at the ER said I was fine the cops just left, with my guns, and I never got them back. They said I couldn't legally own them. Except that I've bought 2 new guns since then, legally. So this just shows the cops lie, and all they want is to take your stuff.

Talked to an attorney, would have cost more to go to court to get my stuff back than the actual value of what was taken (just an ar15 and a couple 22's). The attorney did have me lodge a complaint with the agencies IAB, and also confirm the status of what they had. They did indeed have all the firearms present.
It's been well over a year since this happened, my stuff was disposed of long ago, and aside from the loss of the actual items nothing else bad came of the incident.

So, I got screwed by a pissed off ex, had my civil rights violated, found out a local detective is crooked, and got a lesson in how things work in the real world, and learned that minding your own business and staying out of trouble does not necessarily guarantee that trouble will not come looking for you.

And I understand about the weapon issue as well. In MD you can't have anything concealed at all (knife, mace, etc), and even if worn openly it's only legal if your intent is to not use it maliciously... but how do you PROVE intent when a cop stops you?

@DaedalEVE A cop pulled me over for going through a yellow, and when he asked me for my L&R, I asked why he pulled me over. He just kept repeating himself and got very angry.
Of course, he then claimed I went through a red and gave me a ticket at 10:00 in the morning in a quiet, peaceful town with almost no crime.
It's become a world where we are presumed guilty and we have to prove our innocence. Refusing a search of your car has become probable cause to get a search warrant for it.

Going through a yellow is iffy (some will pull you over, but most won't as it's been ruled over and over that going through a yellow is not illegal). But asking for L&R is normal. You are required to provide them. All drivers must be licensed, and all vehicles registered.
Him saying you went through a red (if you did not) is wrong though. I hada LEO accuse me of not stopping at a sign before because he was not satisfied with how long I stayed stationary... but it got thrown out

I think that you are right! I am a cop and I know that I cant protect everyone at the same time. I think that everyone should have a gun. I do however believe that everyone should have to go through a gun safety class. I do not think that a person should be able to buy a gun on their 21st birthday without a certificate stating that they know how to safely handle and shoot a gun. You need a license to drive and hunt. Criminals are going to get guns and ammo no matter what you do!

You apparently didn't read the bill because HR45 SEVERELY restricts an individual's right to keep and bear arms, puts the power in the hands of the state to license and manage the exercise of your rights and attaches numerous penalties to otherwise law abiding behavior.

I've been reading H.R. 17 and it looks like it's got some heavy limitations. the Bill speaks of use of firearms in defense of "self, family or house".
It basically rules out the possibility to intervene, say, in a school shooting ( while you're in the school ) to protect bystanders ( wich are not part of your family ) unless you're under fire yourself.

Rush's bill would require that all guns being transferred between individuals go though a FFL dealer, and a background check being done. But according to current Illinois law, both individuals must already have valid FOID cards for any transfer to take place, and the seller must keep a record of the the transaction and all pertinent data for 10 years. To have the FOID card you must have already gone through the check and it's subject to revocation at any time if you no longer qualify.

NO we have a right to defend ourselves. If the congress enacts this bill I will surely protest to no end. They are afraid of you because you have a gun. As if you couldnt still kill a man with a knife. Hell while were at it why not ban the teaching of the martial arts. Idiots this is goverment tyrany at its most fine example. Do not let this pass !

our gun rights come from God not government. there was some controversy over putting our gun rights into the bill of rights because some of the founders were afraid that people in the future may misinterpret the second amendment as a government issued right instead of the God given inalienable right that it was accepted to be at the founding of the nation.

It's not a right from "GOD", it's a right to be able to defend ourselves. Back in the day, (I don't know if you have ever read a book other than a bible) there was a war. It was on "our" soil and "our" water. God did not say let the Americans have their guns. The Government wanted us to be able to defend ourselves. So they drafted this up and but it in. If they actually wanted to change it they could have. But obviously they haven't.

If the state gives you the right, then it can be taken away by the state.
It's called "supremacy" in the constitution, rights that can not be taken away. Rights given to you by your creator(god or whatever floats your boat.)
It's a simple right in nature. EVERY organism defends itself with whatever means necessary to survive.
Funny every organism doesn't have a government ruling it...

The second amendment is not about duck hunting! The founding fathers put it in the Constitution so the citizens did not have to support large standing armies and so that we could protect ourselves from tyranical government. Dont fall for their bull.

Right you are. The best way to argue with those that think that the 2nd is so that you can hunt is to point out to them that hunting in and of itself can be banned and that would not conflict with the Constitution at all. If one would read the writings of the founders, they would find that the founders wanted a well armed public and in some cases considered it a persons duty to be armed.

Not necessarily, but I do see where you care coming from. I do agree with the 2nd and that we should have the ability to defend ourselves. But we don't know what would happen if we got rid of it. Maybe it would be sunny and everything will be great, or maybe not. We don't know, and that is what scares the general populist . I think we need stricter gun laws yes, but will we ever stop it? I doubt it. Guns will always be a part of our society, and that is sad.

In every country where guns were confiscated and/or banned, crime has increased. England, Australia and China are just a few examples where crime has increased since guns were banned and they don't know how to control it. Here's a clue, give the guns back to the law-abiding citizens.

Bobby Rush should be impeached for violating his oath of office. Rush, or ANY official, does NOT have the authority to abrogate an inalienable RIGHT. No court has this authority, either. "... Shall NOT be infringed." The government cannot deny any one of us our firearms any more than they could deny us wearing our shoes. Impeach Bobby Rush!

What chaps my ass even more, is that the police are in place to take orders. If I was a cop and I was the only person allowed to carry a gun to protect myself an my family I would know that it wasn't fair. People need to realaize you can say fuck you back. When guns start killing as many people as the government (war) and legalized alchohol, then guns should be addressed. If you look at the annual death rate by guns, 50% is suicide.

To tell you the truth, I would much rather die fighting for something that I strongly believe in rather than dying from a mosquito bite or eating a peanut butter sandwich. To those of you out there who believe that the Second Amendment is not that important, I would say that in that case, the First Amendment and the other Amendments should not be that important to you either because once you start rewriting one, then all of the others will soon follow.

I am so happy to see that there are other people out there who feel as strongly about the second amendment as I do. I am going to make a promise to all of the proud gun owners who read this that I will never get a license for my guns, I will never register my guns with the government, I will never be fingerprinted for owning a gun, and I guarantee you that I will never give up my right to own a gun to anyone. I am dead serious about this and so are many other gun owners out there.

HR-45 is bullshit! How can the legislature do this after SCOTUS just ruled last year that this is an individual RIGHT? Rights are not privileges, by definition. This legislation seeks to subvert the U.S. Supreme Court & the U.S. Constitution itself by making gun ownership a mere privilege, subject to licensure, etc.
Hopefully, it'll get killed in committee. But, it may not. I'm certain that former presidential candidate Rep. Dennis Kucinich will be a fervent supporter, as he is an extremist..

HR45 is an exact mirror image of the Canadian type gun laws,you will have many more Canadian type laws soon. certainly prior to the North American Union in 2010.
