  • lol i decided to push the limits of my first car i got to 130MPH and thats when the speedometer broke hell im always going 130 now even when im parked and the cars not even running meh oh well i know what RPM is enough 3100 in 5th is 60 that all i care about lol

  • forever 40

  • i have the same problem on my 93 corolla

how did you end up fixing it

  • 2002 Ford Expedition won't start AFTER replacing the whole INSTRUMENT CLUSTER :( (It turns ON, engine doesn't) Sounds like when your battery is low.

I put back the old non working one and it turns ON normally!!!

    What is going on???

  • a really good driver can guess speed within 5% eg 4mph at 80mph with no guages - just by visual cues.

  • Worst case scenario is the gear behind the needle is broken.

  • does the vss control the milage that you see??? if the vss is broken will the odometer still record miles driven??

  • @1DirtbikeBoy my VSS was broken a few months back and yeah the odometer stopped moving also the trip.. so it does pick up and send the milage... for me my odometer and speedometer had stopped working, speedometer was always at 0 and odometer at the last recorded miles before it stopped working, and i fixed it with a new 20 dollar VSS and switched out the sensor my self so cheap fix if you ask me

  • @comandercool101 my odometer is not working, but the speedometer works, can you plse tell me how you fixed it.and how much its cost.i ave to go for an inspection.can anybody help.thanks

  • speed sensor

  • be the speedo itself

  • replace a fuse man tats what to my 95 mustang

  • ford contour!

  • reset it

  • thats a ford fer ya lol

  • Idea:tap the speedo

  • Lost odometer +speedometer+gaz intermittently ,almost nobody know it in usa how to fix it and it even on contour.org they have no clue about it .Back of the speedometer gauge it self you have an small Ic1(replace with Ic1 78L05 found on ebay) that are very sensitive and when it is dead your cluster will make some nice freak out and you loose at the same time your current speed+ gaz gauge level ,couple hit on cluster it may fix it for this time but the cluster will no more give the right speed .

  • some times ABS problems check it

  • the check engine is on its a prob on your ecu

  • mine just stopped working a few minutes ago... it was working fine no problems then it just started going to 0 then back up to speed and then down to 0 etc... then it jut doesnt move from 0 now.

    someone message me plz asap

  • is that a contour

  • dude you must have been going like 130

  • at least you wont get a ticket

  • @RULI1974 atleast youll get a ticket for speeding and another ticker for improper equipment idiot

  • There is a fuse in the back of the cluster. The spots on the rear are clearly marked for what they control. Replace the fuse and while you have it out take some rubbing alcohol and clean the connector pads that the contacts plug into. 99% of the time its the fuse and dirty contacts.

  • I like the little 55 on the speedo... even though everyone knows I can't drive 55!

  • sounds like the vehicle speed sensor is out. It's usually located on the tranny.

  • my firebird stays at zero...something about the mass air intake sensor???

  • its a ford..... just kidding

  • We have a similar problem with our nissan almera. It sometimes stays at zero (0) but sometimes it decides to work for a while until it gets tired and goes to sleep again. Could it be the bad contacts in the wires?

  • yh this happened to my friends car just today it was working normally b4. Untill we installed a cd player and then thats when i noticed it that it was at 0mph and i told my mate how fast are you going hahaha that was funny but lucky there wasnt no speeed cameras around and we where on a slow road

  • Thats odd that that happened while you were installing a cd player..

  • @PotionsMistress0 yeah this just happened to me too tried installing a new headunit and thought id blown a fuse until everything was fine so now i have no headunit and no speedo im pretty sure it is the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) so should get it fixed next week and have the headunit installed proffessionally

  • @PotionsMistress0 could have been a spedometer which uses electricity and magnets, instead of a cable.

  • does it register miles?

  • Surprisingly it does..

It's a good thing the car is a manual so I can tell how fast I'm going.

  • yh thats true coz if you know how fast a gear can go you can stick to it. that what i did i told my mate stay in gear three and uill know if your going to fast
