  • These wines ARE ready for drinking now! They will probably improve over the next 5-10 years, but then they need to!

This is a well-known phenomena. Petrus sells for 1500 euros because people want to pay that much then convince themseleves that it is amazing. I've been very let down by fine wine, and in awe of basic ones. Best white I've ever had =£14 a bottle, best red = £20 : )

  • @MiataBRG

I worked in fine dinning and I had conversations with some very wealthy men about wines. W/ enough money to drink the big 5 all the time. Most told me the Petrus was their least favorite. Surprise though, most of them had the Mouton R as their favorite.

I've tried (just tried) the 5 from some different years and yeah. Expensive and im not buying them but man a 1982 Ch. Margaux makes you think it is worth the money. If I made a good 30K more a year I'd drink 1 of the big 5 a month.

  • Amazing and frankly i thought it was full of s...t. So i bought a case of Reignac 2002 and a case of Reignac 2006. Well this was just incredible. By far one of the best wine I ever drank and I had in the past a couple of Petrus. So I know what I am talking about!!! Hurry up because I do no think the price gonna stay dirt cheap for very long. I filled my cellar already.....

  • Well, this is all very nice, but I would like to see Reignac against Petrus in ... 10 years in the same blind tasting. Nice publicity stunt, but rather bullshit like today. If you are a wine expert, you should know better.

  • I disagree, cmon. Its a blind tasting, simple. .. Reignac just showed better. I dont think its a stunt just that they may be on to something.

  • most of these so called expert tasters are just ....full of b.s. I wonder what qualifies them as expert tasters, lol. When I saw Petrus Ausone get bad marks, I laughed my butt off. Probably would have been better if they tasted wines that were 15-20 years old. Many of these wines are not meant for consumption for 15-20 years. But this was very humorous, lol.

  • @footman08

I agree. In fact this is the failing of such a tasting. Those Grand wines are nowhere near drinkability so it is obvious that the simpler, more approachable to drink, will get higher marks. Give these wines 15 to 20 years and I am almost sure that the results will be different.

  • @footman08

Yes. Besides a 200 something dollar of Margaux is either from its worst vintage or something new that already had a -96 pt review by Parker. 209 euro Mouton Rothschild? It must be from the yr with the worst climate possible. So not only some of these guys are full of shit and obviously have money and pretty much buy their way into the main seat of the wine parties. Some of these bottles are from the worst vintages. This is the result of both factors.

  • @footman08

Oh and i have witnessed first have the bullshit from some pseudo experts that are just experts at getting drunk everyday.

I worked at a Burgundy dinner where the wine was revealed after each course. The host says "whoever thinks this is a chardonnay rise your hand" and the 65 people raised their hands. The thing was a Saint-Bris, Burgundy's rare Sauvignon Blanc that is dry as a desert and smells like SBlanc from 100 miles away. Acting like experts doesnt make them experts

  • Reignac...Lol!!!

  • Glad to see that amateurs like me are vindicated whenever I supposedly chose the "wrong" wines in blind tastings. These so-called professionals are not any better! BTW, there has to be a much more fun way to taste wines, right? One where one is allowed to, at least, smile.

  • Merci, Francois for sharing this video of the GJE in action. I always admire reading the tasting notes and results of your blind tastings. Also nice to see 2 of our homeboys in action, Kevin and Wilfred. It is hard to beat Kevin in a blind tasting.
