nose grabs are the toughest at first. Especially if you skateboard, because it goes against everything. Tail grabs will pop right into your back hand if you just think oabout how you ollie. But nose grabs, you really gotta keep your back leg straight, or you'll miss the nose every time. lol
I've been watching some of your vids and I'm going snowboarding soon. I'm excited to seen if These tips will help me with some of the things that were difficult before. (I've been snowboarding for 4 years so it's not like I'm a beginner trying to learn, just to see if I can improve more.)
I need new bindings and boots for my snowboard and there are so many to choose from, I have no idea which ones to get. Anyone have any suggestions for if I plan on doing similar stuff to whats in this video?
@Fultzyy This all depends on how tall you are, how much you weigh etc etc. But what I like to use for that kind of stuff, is the Burton Custom, some Diode EST's (if you can afford them) and Burton Imperial boots. That would be my ultimate setup when it comes to Pow riding. I love Burton stuff but you might not, it's all just personal preference. Ride and Libtec make good stuff. It's hard to go wrong.
@shadowblade145 Hey, thanks for the recommendations! I doubt I could afford the Diodes because Im a poor college kid right now. I guess I will look into Libtec, because I had Ride bindings and broke them after about a month of use.
@Fultzyy Yeah I know the feeling. Libtec makes really good stuff, and if you're looking for good bindings that aren't Burton go with Union. Their 2012 line just came out and it's probably the best lower priced gear out there. I had a chance to ride some Contact's and they're amazing. Good luck on the hunt to find a new setup :D
@monkey298 i like to pop up with both feet just like on a trampoline if i spin or do grabs like melon and stail but with nose i like to do that ollie ish thing.. :) just do what you think is the most confirtable :)
@mssideaks Agreed - Doug is the man! Learned a lot from him last season off of YouTube, and am a better rider thanks in part to his sensible and well-explained advice. Thx Doug & all @ Sierra Snowboard, and happy riding everyone! B-)
@smiley0970 - Either way you want to pop off the tail of the board. Extending both legs as the back foot comes off the lip of the jump is a good place to start.
@xx4eversk1llzx - Allow the pop off the lip to help drive the front knee up to your chest. Also make sure to keep your back leg straight to get the board to guide up towards your hand.
When I was 7 I took my snow board 3 bales of hay and piled snow of the hay then made it into a ramp then packed it down with my snow board and got like 6 feet air and sprained my ankle
@THATMADIRAQI I know what you mean, a lot of these kinda tricks I don't think I would find that hard, but it's the fear of crashing or underestimating the size of a jump that holds me back (lets face it jumps always seem twice as big when your on them). It's easy for me to sit here and watch these tricks and think yeah i'll try that one tomorrow, but I know when i actually get out there in front of the jumps i'll pussy out :/
@fuckusaignorants - You jump with both feet and as you develop more technique you can start to utilize aspects of the ollie to get even more pop off the jump.
@THATMADIRAQI - What is bad is when your speed is off so that you miss the landing. Most landings/crashes are not the bad if you hit the landing zone of the jump.
Bad - Going too slow for the jump and not making it too the landing.
Really Bad - Going too fast for the jump and airing over the landing and crashing in the flats after the jump.
Practice your speed judgment on small features and work your way up slowly.
@overload290 IMO its a good first board, its what i have. this is my second season snowboarding and my second season with my rossignol but next year im getting a salomon.
not only did you provide an excellent instruction video, you also took the time to answer the questions in the comment section, something not many people care to do. well done
Maybe the positioning of my binding is not right ? I'm regular stance and there in "duck" stance , should I change the binding to a more agressive stance ie. There degrees and both faceing down the hill ? Thanks man
About 190 lbs to 200 lbs , my board is fairly stiff I think anyway it's a Lamar ( I know there crap ) . Would get a new board for freestyle stuff if I need too , and just use the other 1 for just boarding more long distance stuff , what u think ? What kinda board would u reccomend too ? Thanks man
@damienk11 - I recommend up grading from the Lamar for sure. Check out the Sierra Reverse Crew in a 159. Set your bindings in a duck stance. 15 in the front and -9 in the back. I ride 12, -12.
Hey Doug , does your board have to have good flex to do tricks and what height should my board be for tricks ? I'm 6' 1' = 185cms and the board I have is 159cms is this too big for me to do tricks ? Thanks man
@damienk11 - The board is not too big for you to do tricks. The first attribute you should think about when selecting a size if your weight. How much do you weight?
Most my boards are a soft to mid flex, which is great for freestyle riding.
@TheRoyalChaos - If you are rolling down the windows a number of things could be going on: Stance is leaning back slightly, not using your legs to resist the curve of the takeoff or timing is off with your pop.
Make sure to get a basic straight air without the grab first.
Learn to move your board in the air, nose/tail up and down, as well as rotate (shifty).
Addressing these things can help bring balance to your riding while in the air.
oh and also if anyone knows what a good but not expensive brand is please let me know, i think burtons are sweet but alot of money and im pretty good at snowboarding but ive always rented stuf and i just wanna buy my own gear, board, bindings, boots and i want good stuf but nothin over 400 or 500
