It's kind of like how the Americans talk about the Constitution or the Founding Fathers and then pass the Patriot Act or NDAA 2012.
I feel so bad for being an american sometimes when it comes to these canadian jokes. I remember i went to a bruins game last november and when the canadian anthem was played for the senators, a bunch of obnoxious drunks by me in the grandstands began to mockingly sing O Canada. The cops just grab their guns in almost every situation.. and they can sue other people for almost anything.. which in my opnion is completely mad. You can't do that in Denmark.. and there are strict rules for when the cops may use their guns. And doctors/hospitals are free because we're paying that with the taxes like in Canada. :) It's the same with the schools here.

While Denmark may be "more sane" with their police force, you must realize that crime is greater in the US than in Denmark and weapons are a necessity for our police forces. The populations of 5 million in Denmark and 34 million in Canada make those countries much easier to run than America who has a population of 312 million.

@Anden14 For the most part we watch the same tv, listen to the same music and generally go about our day to day lives in the same fashion. I'd say the biggest difference is our view of the world and politics in general. We are much more liberally minded and much less xenophobic. We also don't see the government as the enemy like a lot of Americans do.

I'm Danish and I'm speaking English with a Canadian accent too because I never wanted to speak with an American accent, I always wanted to speak with a British accent.. but it's not that easy. @lightningjelly I have dual citizenship and the USA's health care is still better. Not even close. Canada pays ridiculous taxes to have free health care. They have 2nd rate doctors because the best Canadian doctors go to the US. The hospitals in Canada may as well be 3rd world compared to the US hospitals. One of my closest friend in Markham, Ontario has three kids that are all doctors. All 3 in the USA because of better hospitals and a better system. Canada's emergency wait times are worse.

@jethrodassam Actually the U.S. pays higher taxes for healthcare. Even though you don't get free healthcare, you still pay more in taxes (that's per capita too) for it because you have to fund the people who file for bankruptcy.
@jethrodassam it is not a 3rd world health care system...we get meals and a bell we can ring and ask for service if in the hospital to have a baby it can be a state of the art experience where some hospitals even have birthing pools if you want to give birth in the water you can choose...I didnt' but I had a view of the woods hardwood floors in the room etc....nothing to complain about...if you want to ask for a special food they will make it for you and bring it to you...
@TheInamanica The .S. pays more per person in taxes towards healthcare, Canadian doctors get comparable pay when you include benefits and the vastly cheaper malpractice insurance and fees, it's more accesible, and Canadians have a longer life expectancy, we're healthier, and fewer of our babies die in childbirth. An triage wait times are done on basis of priority. "Emergencies" don't wait.
But yeah, I think the dead babies in the U.S. win the case for Canadian Healthcare.

I'm Danish and I'm speaking English with a Canadian accent too because I never wanted to speak with an American accent, I always wanted to speak with a British accent.. but it's not that easy. The American is easier.. then I heard that the Canadian accent sounds a little like the American, but they also have some words and pronounces from the Britains.. like the Scottish 'ou' sound.

@lightningjelly I have dual citizenship and the USA's health care is still better. Not even close. Canada pays ridiculous taxes to have free health care. They have 2nd rate doctors because the best Canadian doctors go to the US. The hospitals in Canada may as well be 3rd world compared to the US hospitals. One of my closest friend in Markham, Ontario has three kids that are all doctors. All 3 in the USA because of better hospitals and a better system. Canada's emergency wait times are worse.

Its to much man to ever have to worry about not being able to afford a doctor. y grandmother had a knee replacement, cancer and kemo therapy, and a bypass all in a two year span and she is healthy again. @jethrodassam it is not a 3rd world health care system...we get meals and a bell we can ring and ask for service if in the hospital to have a baby it can be a state of the art experience where some hospitals even have birthing pools if you want to give birth in the water you can choose...I didnt' but I had a view of the woods hardwood floors in the room etc....nothing to complain about...if you want to ask for a special food they will make it for you and bring it to you...

@TheInamanica The .S. pays more per person in taxes towards healthcare, Canadian doctors get comparable pay when you include benefits and the vastly cheaper malpractice insurance and fees, it's more accesible, and Canadians have a longer life expectancy, we're healthier, and fewer of our babies die in childbirth. An triage wait times are done on basis of priority. "Emergencies" don't wait.
But yeah, I think the dead babies in the U.S. win the case for Canadian Healthcare.
