Schumacher is right. The cars at that time became so safe, that the last time when somebody lost his life on the track (excluding Elio de Angelis - who was killed on a test session at Paul Ricard in 1986) was back in 1982.
It was almost unimaginable, that somebody could get hurt seriously during an F1 race. Awakening from that "dream" was even more shocking.
@victorulijn Not forgetting Roland Ratzenberger either, of Course. These two fatal accidents happened so quickly, that the drivers couldn't even get them.
i like schumacher, seems like a decent guy, don't know why people wouldnt like him, obviously we have our favourites. mine is the mclaren guys, button and hamilton and senna obviously.
@sarmasen Well, from what all happened from the end of 1993 I think, Senna was close to retiring. FIA has forced him to shut up when he was telling the truth about unsafe circuits with a suspended ban and of course, there was no Prost to challenge him. I think he just wanted to proove, that he still can beat Schumacher, and than will probably retire. After Ratzenberger died, he told dr.Watkins that he wants to stop, but for some reason he can not...
Schumi is just like any other great driver, who relishes the "bad boy" image... Remember, Senna played the part of the "bad guy" to Prost and Mansell for years. Talent ultimately will tell.
Senna MUST have been a great mentor to Michael, and there should be no shame as to how Senna's passing affected Michael. I for one respect Michael's candid expression on the loss of a fellow driver, how quick we forget just how sudden a driver's life can end as we sit comfortably enjoying the show.
It's pretty heartbreaking to see the kind of reaction Schumi has here. Senna was obviously his benchmark with him coming fresh into the sport with Senna pretty much at his peak and Schumi had to have looked up to him if anything as a kind of driving force. Both great people and drivers, it's a shame some people have such a distorted view of what Senna meant to him.
Think Michael was the most affected by this, it was Senna that he was challenging and with high chances... it's always sad and ugly to see your rival go away in such a nasty manner.
i dont think anybody know what happened wiv senna i think cos we saw head movement they thought he was ok but as he came back off the wall behind the ad board the whel jamed as the front was crumped and the wishbone arm pierced his helmet and we didnt see that and people could see red liqued on floor and people said that was from the car but it was blood my god i wonder how the marshall felt when they got to the car, i feel for schumacher and i think he wont get over that as he was 20+
He held back tears and frustration at the end of this, I think everyone felt that way.
Bless Tom Wilkinshaw, poor guy pass away after suffering cancer.
