A Japanese woman I know has been in Canada for 15 years and is married to a caucasian friend of mine. She told me over tears one night about the racism she's experienced from female store staff on Robson Street and other areas of downtown Vancouver. It's not a case of once or twice, it's been constant since she's been here. She has no reason to lie. She's got a great attitude in life, is polite and unassuming. When I worked in the west end, I felt many women were quite uppity.
In the 1920's and 30's the West End was the home of the wealthy, in their fancy houses. When I lived there in the 50's the wealthy had moved away and the young people made it "cool" but not very elegant. In the 70's the German influence nicknamed it "Robsonstrasse." By the 90's the Asian immigration was dominant. As things change, people feel displaced. It's a shame but you "can't go home again."

Ciao bella isn't bad at all, but I'd recommend Earl's on Robson. Great food, good prices and really good service.
Came back from our little Vancouver trip and loved it. Cool place, save for the homeless in Hasting St.
question is... what's MD's doing on a "great food" video???
