  • Im really getting sick of this dear santa or chuck norris shit fucks sake....

  • swedish power

  • @TheDillchipset SWedish what?

  • Smart?

  • Not sure if the navy ever followed the idea for an integrated battle group autonomous AA defense network, but the idea was that the overlapping radar would give a 3D picture for air defense so that each gun is tracking a different target (Enemy aircraft) while the point defense systems would target any thing not fired by a friendly, another thing it would do is cover friendly aircraft from enemy weapons by launching countermeasures and directed jamming of enemy sensors. cool concept though :)

  • These are the best and most reliable guns ever built in the world.

  • I counted 11 shots in less than 2 seconds.

  • woooooooooooooow!

  • Oh daer Santa....

  • There goes a years salary.

  • @heathovc In 12 seconds.

  • But it could hit a target several k's out from the ship, outside the range of the CIWS, either 20mm or 30mm, one hit, target is rooted.

  • How does it stack up against the Phalanx and Goalkeeper systems as a CIWS?

  • @AraelMkII Not very good for CIWS: two barrels firing in sequence inevitably make dispersion worse; and rate of fire is too low to use it for CIWS. CIWS must hit the target *FAST* - in no more than one second. Which means: it needs precision radar corrected voluminous fire.

  • @vcz11 The Breda Bofors in 5 seconds can fire 100 projectiles (more or less 50 per each gun) that put at 4,000 mts out from the ship 15200 heavy metal balls, that give you a real wall of steel. The range of the guns is important becouse you get more secounds against a misil like the Harpoon with a speed of 1020 Km/h. The Phalanx with its 1500 mts of range, only has 5 secounds and the impact should be direct, while with the Breda Bofors you get 14 secounds to try to stop it.

  • @AraelMkII it is different use from ciws, modern naval warfare orders arsenal like phalanx and goalkeeper to be made for anti air missile or antiaircraft incoming threats for the ship, boffors and otto melara are used mostly for anti surface threat for example against the deck of a closed enemy ship,or a boat like the pirates use in african sea or against a seal team aboarded in rubber boats,or against harbour and dock targets like a light house or a bunker, generally against smaller targets.

  • @AraelMkII Just fine against single targets, but dedicated CIWS are probably more effective. The 40mm and 57mm Bofors guns have the benefit of longer effective range, bigger warheads and the capability of using 3P (programmable, airburst-capable) rounds, which make a higher rate of fire unnecessary. But these are multipurpose guns, they're supposed to be used against everything from surface vessels to aircraft to anti-ship missiles.

  • Breda is built by oto melara of Italy. This is the 'slow' version. The fast 40 can fire twice as fast, 450 rpm per barrel.

  • Reminds me of pom pom guns :p

  • How sideways vibrations from off-center mount affect accuracy?

  • a la mierda!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Ka-boom, baby!
