You guys see any of the wild horses on the other side of Garfield? I did a lot of geologic work on Garfield last year not too far from where you guys were.. that's a helluva lot of climbing you guys did right there
@sweetbilly saw no horses unfortunately... this has been awhile so I don't if there are some now... Main Canyon and BookCliffs right off 70 exit in Cameo - just 1/2 hour walk there are horses !
I did some geologic work on on Garfield about two years ago you could say I'm an expert of the rocks there, lots of fossilized trees, roots and marine animals, (supposedly 80 million years old, if you believe in that sort of thing). Garfield marks the distinction of an old beach and inland sea at the end of the cretaceous period, tons and tons of natural gas they've been pumping on one well for more than fifty years now. Love the fact that my window overlooks that mountain everyday :)
Grand Junction is the gateway to the west, Mt Garfield was was my back yard for my formative years growing up in Clifton and on the Mesa I miss it very much. nice music and thanks for shooting your hike.
I climb Mt.Garfield to prepare myself for Mt.Elbert every year =] I live in the redlands, in grand junction if you know where im talking about. I have a great view of the bookcliffs, and the mesa.
Hi Davorb99 - Mt Garfield is located on the Western Slop of Colorado. A steep no switchbacks 2 mile 2,000 feet climb from the top you can see Palisade, Grand Junction towns. eb
Ty so much for posting - Mt. Garfield is so beautiful in any season. I have watched it from my front porch for 20 yrs., esp. awesome at sunset and with snow. Thanks for hiking it for me:-)
I use to walk up this Mount at least once a year as a kid. We thought it great fun. The best part, sliding on cardboard on the sand to get back down, again.
I did it once (with the scout troop to replace the flag). Found a small arch that you could hike through & sit on the edge & see the lights from Moab to Montrose.
I found out that the Stagecoach trail from Palisade will eventually take you to Mt Garfield - but its very long - all day... but without the strenous hike - anyone can do that one but it would take a looong time
I finished it two weeks ago which was March 15, 200. It is a great hike and you do need to be in shape or it is recommended. We went up this way and came down this way. Some people are able to run down.
were you able to walk the next couple of days? I was literally cripled! too bad I can't upload clear quality - its nice to see the details. If you have all day you can also go from Stagecoach trail in Palisade by the bridge... know about it?
thanks bud - we came down that way but for first timer I thought it would be easier on the right. Honestly its hard either way and coming down. I was so sore for 3 days I could barely do stairs. I plan to do it again though ! Liz
thank you glad you liked it - my hubby really draged me I was having such a hard time. My light weight digital camera takes quick .avi's which is what I used - pack a luch - lots of h2o and one more time :)

Where is the Gearhart mine? Is it east or west of the main trailhead and how long did it take? Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing!

Mt Garfield is located in the Western Slope of Colorado - right outside the town of Grand Junction. About 40 miles from the Utah border.

Every time I climbed Garfield I went up on the left side. My fiends and I would go straight up until we hit the old indian trail, then up to the top.
I wish there were camcorders back then.
Nice video. Brings back memories.
