  • brilliant

  • i want him to come to my house for a chicken salad sandwich

  • Check it! /watch?v=A97isHB1_8A I think is this version!

  • Isn't this Sultans of Swing Live in BASEL 92 ? Sounds like that! =) Take a look! Bye!

  • hell yea what a good jam shesh

  • Mark Knopfler is underrated as a guitar player. I think he has a great sound. Very jazzy.

  • ONE M 0:00 RE TIME

  • coool

  • There is no better !

MK is the royal straight flush of talent.

... at the Royal Oolbut Hool, and in america too.

    Great. Thanks for the show.

  • Mark Knophler is the man!!!!!!

  • Damn!

  • no doubt, he is the B E S T

  • ONE M0:0RE TIME

  • 12 persons prefer Justin Bieber.........

why was i born in 1982 :'((((( i never see them on concert...really i lost someting in my life

  • @tanino12 knopfler still tours

  • @rossm21uk : i know but alone !

  • @tanino12 : and i live in europe.... :(

  • vote for knopfler in rock and roll hall of fame !!

  • He fucking IS~

  • MARK KNOPFLER ES EL MEJOR GUITARRISTA DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS.

  • Sorry but Alchemy live was the best version of Sultans of Swing ever.

  • @TheFloppyChicken Nope, Night in London was the best version. It was magic.

  • @dpk209210 and @TheFloppyChicken '96 A Night in London is the most soulful version of this song and 1 of the 2 greatest live versions, the other one is Alchemy Live in '83 at Hammersmith Odeon! He was 34 in '83 and 47 at A Night in London....almost no difference in speed and far more soul!!! Drums not as good as the Extraterrestrial Terry Williams in Alchemy '83, but good! He plays Pensa MK I in '96 instead of the Red Strat in Alchemy '83. More nrg '83, far more soul in '96 (& I think better!)

  • @dpk209210 Nope, the live aid version was EPIC

  • Uno de los mejores guitarristas de todos los tiempos. ¡¡Impresionante Mark Knopfler!!.

  • thank you good night now its time to go home!

  • I am agree with you. That is the best version of Sultans of Swing.

  • perfect audio ever,,,,

  • I was at the concert in the Royal Albert Hall in 1996 but I don't have any footage unfortunately. It was an AWESOME concert.

  • I think some people dont like it because its too different from the original. Fans listen out for the exact notes, and little fiddly bits. Genesis fans expect that all the time, so you never see Tony Banks improvising. Hed be booed off stage!

  • it is by far the best version I have ever heard him play too... and i was wondering if this existed on youtube...

    gr8, thx

  • How different to all the other versions - different mood and never heard riffs from him - he always invents new and it is strictly awesome. His vocals support this special relaxed feeling. A true genius

  • a monster!! fantastic performance!!

  • better than the other

  • 11 people not like this?

    Why?

  • @pietalpha2 they like it^^ but they have many missclicks^^

  • seeing him on the 2nd of june XD !!! so exited !!!

  • very good !!!! From where is this version ????

  • the best version was during the tribute to mandela in 1988, when Clapton join the rythm guitar

  • culquiera de sus actuaciones son increibles muestras del dominio de la tecnica, la fuerza , la pasión, increiblemente bueno.

  • Different & great, EVERY time! ~ Thanks

  • sem palavras pra descrever , melhor apresentação da sultans of swing , mark knopfler é um dos deuses da guitarra (:

  • The best over the word . I love this gay and hers guitars play simple the best ;)

  • Did you mean " gay " or " guy " ?

  • what do you think

  • I hope He mean guy ! not gay ^^'

  • Рок н д Ролл!!!

  • bellissimo/a!

  • does anyone has this whole song in MP3 format? this is sooooo good!

  • i got it

  • Knopfler is fucking awesome

  • @an651m

    I agree :)

  • its from the best of album "sultans of swing; the very best of dire straits"

it was re-released with a bonus cd with 7 live songs from the royal albert hall, london

  • What?you have this song? O.o

  • there are some who are not even making the difference...:):):)

    a legend from childhood.

    peace!

  • So? d;

  • yeah so? :D

  • ahmagad.. really?

  • that's fascinating.

  • shit, you are so lucky...

  • i looove dire straits

i think he is the best guitar,

he can do anithing with his electrci guitar,

and his music is wonderful, perfect, terriblee!!!

    from argentina keeev

  • well,its the dire straits,but ok.....i got your point.:)

  • terrible? o.o

  • yeah!!! terribly good!

  • the recording quality's tremendous!

  • legenda

  • Thank you 4 posting this rare version. Its, no complaining, the most moving recording of this song so far. Masterpiece.

  • No Words! Greatest Feeling and Groove!

  • MARK RULES !!!!!!!!!!! NO DISCUSSION

  • KN1lch... They always do that live... they sing a bit later and other tones, he's not off. Prolly to show he's really singing live and not playbacking orsomething.

  • Really? His timing is pretty damn good, I only noticed one spot where he "might" have messed up. He plays outside some, but that is a sign of skill.

  • talking about the vocals not the guitar ;)

  • Thats what makes it so awesome live .... hes outstanding.

  • You're nuts.

  • he plays the blues, and he sings like a traditional blues singer.

  • I think there is a little mistake. This song was not played in the royal albert hall concert in 1996, this must be from somewhere else.

  • This is the track 5 from the Mark Knopfler At The Royal Albert Hall (1996) :

"comes from the official album "Sultans of Swing: The Very Best of DS", but it's only the bonus CD - not available in many countries, cover says "This recording was made for a live US radio broadcast by Album Network at the Royal Albert Hall, London on 23rd May 1996. Tracks have not been remixed, overdubbed or altered in any way".

I have this CD and it is damn good. :D

  • Note me down for outraged...

  • don't forget the great blues guitarist from the 60s and 70s like Page, Clapton, and Hendrix i would even argue Knopfler although most of his best stuff was in the 80s. many that don't play guitar people fail to realize that playing rock is playing an evolved, often dumbed down, version of the blues. so thank BB King the next time you rock a solo on your axe.... lol

  • The Blues had a baby and they called it rock and roll.

  • More like country, pop, and blues had a baby and his name was Chuck Berry.

  • Comment removed

  • it ain't what they call rock and roll =]

  • ist mir ein bissel zu lahm...die alchemy version ist besser ;) aber diese ist natürlich auch super, allein, weil es ebend Merk Knopfler ist xD

  • listen to Vasion ´96...That's one of my favorite version

  • Do you have more of this conert? I love the Golden heart tour!!!!!! thanx for this great version!!!

  • Some place I read about somebody asking Jerry Garcia which guitarists he listened to. He replied No one...well Mark Knopfler. That says it all.

  • This is so true, this is by far the best Sultans of Swing made, and probably the greatest performance of MK ever. Beats the Alchemy version by a mile.

This limited bonus disc (where this song is on) is in FLAC on usenet now, so search it and go get it!

  • I was there at this gig!!

  • you can create a song like this ,only once in a life time,

this is a Bible of music

  • RICHIE BLACKMORE.........

  • Knopfler is very good but Jimmy Page

    guitar God!

  • You're not comparing apples with apples. They had different influences hence different styles. MK is more country (JJ Cale) and JP is more pure Rock N Roll. Page was crap live IMHO and his recordings were just endless over-dubs. Great producer though.

  • I think my order of best guitar players is:

    1. Mark Knopfler

    2. Santana

    3. Angus Young

  • 1. HENDRIX 2. MARK KNOPFLER 3. ERIC CLAPTON 4. SANTANA 5. STEVE VAY 6. ANGUS YOUNG 7. JIMMY PAGE 8. VAN HALEN 9. JOE SATRIANI 10.GLENN FREY It's my personal list ;)
  • whos the guitar player of VAN HALEN? :)

  • Its Eddie Van Halen

  • Where's Kirk?!

  • eric johnson, tommy emmanuel, chet atkins

  • 1 knopfler

    2 dick dale

    3 everyone else

  • I'm quite surprised guitarists as Guthrie Govan and Steve Lukather are not in that list... both belong to the best guitarists to my opinion...

  • A much more "polished" version which I reckon is awesome - really like this!!

  • what a version, but wembley'85 is better !!

  • Mark Knoffler has always been one of my favorite guitarist along with Hank B. Marvin..they seem to put it all together..

    Raymond U.S.A. Pennsylvania

  • Knopfler is a master on the guitar! What a legend!

  • Can anyone tell me how to the the MP3?

  • tabs?

  • Royal Albert Hall or Hambourg, this version is great and wonderful!

I post here a "video comment" because I used this version to improvise on acoustic guitar with it. I hope you will like my modest attempt!

  • Don't agree. Wembley '85 is the best. It's here in YouTube. But the sogn is evergreen.

  • Nice Video-Thanks

  • You get a shiver in the dark, it's raining in the park. Check out Guitar George, knows all them fancy chords. And Harry doesn't mind if he doesn't make the scene. And an old guitar is all he can afford. He's got a daytime job, he's doin' alright. And a crowd of young boys they're fooling around in the corner. They don't give a damn about any trumpet playing band. It ain't what they call rock and roll.

And then the man he steps right up to the microphone. Goodnight, now it's time to go home.

  • Love that man...wonderful!

  • perfect!!!!!!

  • in istanbul june 13th, 2008. he'll be amazed by the number of fans he has over here. great guy, deserves it 110 percent !

  • Have been mark knopfler fan for years, and im going to hes consert 22 april 2008 in sweden.

  • this is royal albert hall. very best of the dire straits

  • This is RAH !! From the bonus cd that came with "The very best of..." Anyone going to Oslo in April?

  • Sounds like Humburg 96' to me..?

  • Hamburg I meant, but not sure anymore.. could be Royal Albert Hall too..
