I have never seen this version of the Pied Piper of Hamelin before; I watched it recently and felt sad towards the end. I pitied the piper because he didn't get what was rightfully promised to him and felt bad that every parent lost their most prized posession - their children. It's always important to keep a promise and know what's truly important in life or else pay back will haunt you until you undo your wrongdoings.
Again, this is my all time favorite version of this story. I just don't understand why everyone feels sorry for the lame boy. I know he thinks he missed out on what the music promised him, but the music promised similar things to the rats as well, and we know what happened to them. I don't think the Piper killed the children, but I don't think they saw all the music promised them either.
@TekelBrighteyes I believe the lame boy was left behind because perhaps the piper wanted the adults to learn how to become good parents or surrogates to those who were in dire need and want. he piper probably took the children someplace better where they can be happier and learn to be honest. Maybe in order to see the music one must learn to play the right notes, feel the creativity and promise an opportunity to witness something wonderful.
Oh lala... I cried again... I can't help it! Last time I watched it I was about 10 years-old and I cried the same... Sooo sad! And so magical! I really am not a fan of happy endings... hihihihihi
I Was about to say the same thing! This piece of music is so haunting, but also beautiful. It is so sad as the story and my eyes were filled with tears at the end.
Aw, that's so sad :( I thought he was gonna bring the rats back ;P

Didn't the PP get them back by leading the rats back into Hamelin & reinfesting it?

I'm glad Nicolas Meyer, Eric Idle, and everyone else were willing to make such a creepy version of such a creepy story.

this story has two good lessons
1, when you make a promise you should keep it!
2. there are things more important then money!

The music in this one is so haunting and yet serene. Definately one of the best.
